How To Send Support $$ For DCS ?
Flogger23m replied to Wrecking Crew's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Keys bought from ED's store are only tied to an account once they are used in game. So if you want to give a module away, have the other person download the module, install it, and then place a mission with that aircraft selected as being flyable. They will then get a prompt when loading the mission for the CD key. Enter the as of now unused CD key. Now it is tied to that account. It is the same with Steam bought CD keys. Gift someone a copy via Steam, copy the CD key in the right menu, load up a non-Steam DCS World install if you so choose, and repeat the process as outlined above. -
What does DCS-W add to the DCS A10 ?
Flogger23m replied to domkle's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Various upgrades, new 3D models for units, newer graphical effects, and multiplayer (doubt anyone still plays the old A-10C install). There really is no reason to not plug it into DCS World. -
How To Send Support $$ For DCS ?

As someone else said, buy extra copies and give them out. I am sure the increased sales numbers can help to. -
66% off on steam vs 60% off in the DCS store?
Flogger23m replied to howie87's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Flash sales and community choice sales tend to do very well. Lots of people buy a title which is simply on great discount. Which means more money for ED. That is a good thing. I know a number of people who bought and enjoyed A-10C, but did not even realize there was a Black Shark 2, Flaming Cliffs 3, P-51 ect. as they were not on Steam (now they are) and never showed up on discount. -
Hello, Will the Hawk be able to carry the AIM-9 and Aden gunpod? If that is a yes I will go back and change my vote. :smilewink:

DCS MIG-21. Thanks for the giveaway cichildfan and have a nice and safe the holiday season. Good luck to the winners. :)

I did not see the new Su-25T cockpit as being noted here, though is there any chance that it might make the final release? Or is that still very far off?

How would one modify the files and then save them in a format so they work in game? I am using Photoshop CS2. I can open the files, edit some of the layers, and then save it as a .bmp, but not a .bmp.dds. I tried saving it as a .bmp and simply remaining the file extension so .bmp.dds but the file size is much bigger than it it supposed to be (42MB like the .pds) where as the .bmp.dds files are only 3-4MB.

Hello, For a while I have been wondering why the Su-33 and Su-27 can not carry two rocket pods or bombs on weapon stations 3 and 8 (Su-27)/ 3 and 10 (Su-33) in Flaming Cliffs and now DCS World. The real Su-33 seems to be capable of carrying two S-25s and S-8 rocket pods on these stations: S-8: More images here: http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/su-33.htm According to KNAAZ's website, the Su-27SKM can also carry those rocket types in such a configuration, in addition to the S-13 and various FAB-500/RBK-500 bomb types: Likewise, additional numbers of FAB-250s can be carried which can not be done in DCS World. I realize the Su-27SKM is different from the original S and SK, though seeing that the Su-33 can utilize such pylons I would think the original Su-27S could also well. I would greatly enjoy being able to carry the extra bombs/rockets while flying the Su-27/Su-33 in game. Does Eagle Dynamics plan on adding this pylon in game at some point? If not, perhaps someone can make the 3D model and texture and submit it to Eagle Dynamics? I am sure many DCS World Flanker pilots would appreciate it. :)

DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Preliminary Changelog
Flogger23m replied to Mike Busutil's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I would prefer if the F-15Es retained their air to air weapons, even if the incorrect launchers are used. I am sure a modder can make the necessary 3D model and submit it to Eagle Dynamics to be officially added in down the road. The F-15E certainly is A2G centric, but I do like having a variety of fighters to fight against. I am getting tired of the current list as it is, as wish there were more fighters to fight against. F3 Tornado, JAS-39, Mirage F-1, F/A-18E, Eurofighter, Su-35 ect. would be nice to see down the road. -
Lock On Digital Download
Flogger23m replied to mingocr83's topic in Lock On v.1.0x and Flaming Cliffs v.1.1x
Amazon games are saved in your account. So you can redownload it as you like. There is no extra DRM and the downloader is simply that. It is not an over bloated client. -
How to get started, second tutorial too difficult
Flogger23m replied to ScottVal's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Sounds like you need to enable AA. The Su-25T is not as detailed as the A-10C or other "study sim" level aircraft. If you want to buy more aircraft at a similar realism level as the Su-25T, get Flaming Cliffs 3. That comes with a bunch of aircraft, including the A-10A and F-15C. Note that you will need a copy of LOMAC, which can be bought digitally via Amazon.com or Ubisoft. -
It is just something one has to accept in the digital age, and I think it is something good. Customers get lower prices. For example, Max Payne 3 was 50% off just weeks after release, and BF4 has gone on sale for $20 just a month after release. So it is not uncommon. At $50-60 (and probably more) per aircraft, and now that ED will be charging us for terrian (and maybe AI units? cloud affects?) I'd say the customers can use a few sales. If you really want to show your support buy day one or buy a bunch of copies at discount.

Any reason to buy this if I have A-10C?
Flogger23m replied to Mattressi's topic in A-10A for DCS World
Actually, the release of A-10A was to do away with the LOMAC install. Otherwise, just grab them all for $50 under Flaming Cliffs 2 + a $10 LOMAC install if you don't have it from Amazon/Ubisoft.com. I am happy with FC3, assuming the MIG-29A/G/S and Su-33 get the same treatment as the rest of them. -
So when the Edge update is released will be still be able to play the non-Edge map? Or will we have to buy the new Nevada terrian to continue getting updates? I also asked about CPU (Central Processing Unit; Intel/AMD) multicore support, not GPU (Graphics Processing Unit; Nvidia/AMD). I would hope Edge does eventually as there is plenty of untapped hardware power that DCS does not take advantage of. Multi GPUs are nice, but not many have more than one card and I doubt it will help much with AI/flight physics. I too want a map to play outside of the current area, but I will not like buying a bunch of terrains, or buying certain AI units, or buying new clouds ect. I am perfectly fine with purchasable flyable aircraft, but having to buy base content (maps/terrian) invalidates a large reason behind the DCS World model (unified, compatible base).

I voted Israel and surrounding countries though Iran/Iraq, Vietnam, Koreas, India/Pakistan (maybe China to?) and Germany/western Europe would be great. Israel/Egypt/Jordan - would be great if 1960 era aircraft came out. Some very intense air battles occurred in the 60-70s in this region with fairly equal technology. Modern day Egypt also has F-16s, so a fictional conflict set in modern times can be interesting. Iran-Iraq - An Iran-Iraq War setting would be nice. Again, similar technology. Also Desert Storm. Vietnam - Vietnam theater integrated into DCS World would be very interesting. North/South Korea -Korean war theatre? Or again, fictional conflicts. India/China/Pakistan - Lots of historical wars with air battles. Possibility of future conflicts. If someone can modify the Su-27 into a J-11, make a flyable Mirage-2000, combined with the MIG-21Bis and MIG-29S we will have a decent number of planes on all sides. West Europe - Fictional "Cold War gone hot" conflict. The USA is an odd choice. Aside from training, you can make extremely fictitious missions. Nothing wrong with that; but I would rather have a set of terrian that lends itself to historical and/or plausible wars as those can feature extremely random coalitions as well.

I have three questions about Edge: - Will the current DCS map work on the Edge engine with all of the other performance and graphical improvements? - Is multicore support being implemented? While SLI/Crossfire is nice, flight sims are more based on the CPU so I feel multicore support is more important. Additionally, everyone has at least a dual core and probably a quad core now. Not nearly as many have multi GPUs, and do not want to deal with the extra price/noise/heat/driver issues associated with them. - Will the Nevada map and other future maps cost us? I am fine with buying aircraft, but I think buying maps, AI units, ect. will break up the community and make it hard to get enough people to populate a server.

Hello, I am wondering if I were to buy a copy of DCS: Mi-8 off of Steam, would I be able to plug the CD key into my non-Steam install of DCS World? While I am asking this question, can my DCS P-51 and UH-1 modules (bought from ED's website) be plugged into Steam? I have successfully added Blackshark 2, but P-51 and UH-1 do not seem to activate on Steam.
-
Is Combined Arms worth it? Thinking of getting that or P-51. Can only get one.

Click on the title in your library. On the right click on the CD Key text under "Links". Its not that hard. I did this with A-10C months ago. Never installed it through Steam, just took the CD key and plugged it into World. I am thinking of getting Combined Arms and P-51, though would rather put the money towards DCS MIG-21. I just don't know when that will be released. Likewise, same with DCS/FC F/A-18. Want to save for those but if they are 2 years away...

I went from a GTX560ti 2GB to a GTX670PE OC. Performance jump in games like BF3 and Crysis 2 was huge. Performance jump in DCS was minimal to non-existent. The game hardly gets my 560ti or 670 warm, which means it is not stressing the GPU. To put it simply, the current engine will not take much advantage over a faster GPU at 1920x1080. The engine is just not optimized well. Hopefully the Edge engine will make the game more stable and run faster.

I sincerely doubt the part in bold. Everyone who bought FC3 bought it through ED's website. All they have to do is see which users have FC3 in their account and issue Steam CD keys for the DCS World FC3 modules (Su-25, A-10A ect.). Just like they did for those of us who bought A-10C/BS2/UH-1/P-51 on the ED website. For future purchases you can get 5 keys; 1 for FC3 and 1 for each of the individual Steam modules of the included aircraft.

steam and ED DCS World reg key's
Flogger23m replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Why should someone with the Black Shark 2 upgrade be forced to pay the difference? They already bought Black Shark 1 which is why they were discounted in the first place. Their end product is the same, Black Shark 2 in DCS World. The only difference is that they probably paid more money overall and have to jump through extra hoops to install their product. It would be easier on ED's part to simply remove the upgrade version and change it to a normal Black Shark 2 version. Everyone who has a registered copy of Black Shark 1 and the upgrade gets the full version of Black Shark 2. As they are registered on ED's website to download it in the first place this should not be hard to figure out. For owners of the Steam version of Black Shark 1 this is even simpler. On Steam if you own certain products you can automatically discount a sequel or another product. For example, owners of Red Orchestra 2 got a 25% discount to Rising Storm (addon/sequel). On Steam, owners of Black Shark 1 can get a 50% discount on the Black Shark 2 DLC for DCS World. Its simple, allows them to upgrade without any additional measures taken and is probably simpler for ED's tech support.
