  1. I've just come across this over the weekend. Casmos has a youtube video for it. For those that aren't in the know and do game master roles, this might be worth checking out. The have a discord channel at https://discord.gg/WxwtSnDk (I am not affiliated with this in anyway - just saw that there's been no discussion of it here, so just letting people know about it). The funniest part... it's due for public release in 2 weeks. (No trademark - legit 2 weeks). That cracked me up. But this is something I think will be a game changer for many multiplayer server administrators!
  2. This may certainly be the case, but TBH - I've wondered about winwing (I haven't purchased anything from them... yet) - but the customer service correspondence gives me the chills. Most people have no issues with their purchased product, therefore only experience a portion of the whole companies experiences. Then there's the odd product that will come through where mistakes have been made. (Leads not connected, poor packaging, damage, etc). I can understand mistakes, I make a few of them myself, and provided they're easilly sorted, I'm OK with them. I also have no problems if instructed opening up the item (shouldn't have to... no - but I get that if it's not difficult and it's far easier than dealing with postage back and forth, etc - it's a viable options). I understand that even with some good quality products the odd lemon can get through QC and get out there. But one thing that really scares me is the run-around customer support, where it's like talking to a wall, and not getting questions answered, or where you feel like they're deliberately trying to hinder the conversation so you'll give up and will go away. Another thing I'm not entirely convinced about is the $10 value on the return, which sounds dodgy, and not something I'd expect from a more reputable company. When I ship expensive goods, I like to insure them, and it's a bit hard to do so when undervaluing the product. I would have thought that if an item was marked as 'returning defective item', or 'replacement item' that custom charges aren't a thing as it's a back and forth issue in that case. Is this not so? Even though I don't have winwing products, I'm grateful a company exists that is willing to make these peripherals. I just hope that they're able to grow and learn quickly from their mistakes, and cull out poor customer service staff and replace with people who can offer better service that will reflect better on their public image, and give their customers a better experience.
  3. Not for me. SRS still excels in comparison for my needs. Especially as it allows for 3rd party access. Lack of options for LotATC users, OverlordBOT, STTS, and able to stream/push 3rd party audio / mp3 files into it externally, mean that the inbuilt functionality for me would be a huge step backwards. Depending on what ED do in the future things may change of course, but for now, I'm exclusively SRS because of the enhancements / additional functionality that it provides.
  4. What does this mean for the future of DCS and VR? Does it mean we're going to lose things like Quad Views Foveated, Varjo Foveated , OpenXR tools, etc as either DCS continues to be developed or Windows continues to make changes? I've relied a heap on OpenXR and OXRTK to get me by with DCS in the past when I first delved into VR and SteamVR performance was tanked. Recently I've been toying with the idea of upgrading from a HP Reverb to possibly an Aero, but if the features currently available may be unavailable soon, I'm going to have to have second thoughts on my investments. VR is the only way for me now to play DCS. Years of VR has spoiled me to a point where I honestly don't think I could go back to 2D, and it was obvious to me that OpenXR literally saved DCS and VR for me at a time when I was close to walking away with the issues I was having. Matt has done everyone (including ED) an incredible service!
  5. In regards to the Aero, what's the "Aero problem" that was discussed in the latest Wags video. (I haven't watched the video, but IIRC in a summary it was mentioned that a question was raised regarding a "Vairo Aero fix", and WAGS apparently says they don't have the headset and the company can't afford to buy every piece of hardware. Is there something about the Vairo Aero that DCS doesn't like / doesn't work with properly?
  6. Wow? That seem to come across from nothing to escalating quickly? Context might help a little? FWIW (without knowing the context) some servers use discord as a means for quality management. Some servers run auto-kick for banned players based on their discord GUID. It has zero to do with coms in game. In order to fly on those servers, a discord account is required. In that case I get the "I don't want to install discord or have another app" to join a server, and that's fully your prerogative. But it's also the right of server operators and mission designers to run their servers the way they see fit and if this helps control 'pests' and helps the server operators out, and their community, it's not a big price to pay to help. But again, it's your decision. There's plenty of servers that don't require that there too. FWIW - in game I much prefer SRS coms too. Discord for general life chit chat / mission planning, but ingame, I'm a SRS fan too. But context really would be a bit helpful in understanding "what the heck" for us who are going blissfully through a quiet meadow as we browse the forums with nothing but the sound of a gentle breeze, and the birds chirping, and all of a sudden hear someone yell "No - I'm not joining your discord" out of the blue, and then walk away leaving us scratching our heads.
  7. You can have as many installs of DCS as you like. You don't need to purchase another license or use another account. The only criteria is only one instance of DCS can be ran at a time (excludes dedicated servers, which I think the concurrent amount per account is 5 IIRC, but that's irrelevent to what you're wanting to do). Most Open Beta testers (who use open beta for beta testing) like myself do this. Many closed beta testers could have 3 or 4 local copies installed for their various testing. ED allows for this. To have this: Copy your DCS Install path to a second location. Open up that directory and locate the file called dcs_variant.txt (if it doesn't exist create it). Make the text in here something like OPENBETA. (What this does is tells DCS when it's launched from this location to use the "saved games\DCS.OpenBeta" folder for settings instead of the "saved games\DCS" folder. Note: This is optional, however I find it good practice not to share the same saved games configuration folders between builds and to keep them seperate. You can however copy all the folders and files from one to another to save you resetting up all your bindings on the second install). Open up a command line parameter and navigate to the second install that you've created, into the BIN directory. execute the command "dcs_updater update @openbeta". This will force DCS to update this copy to the open beta. Alternatively, if you want that copy to be the stable version, I believe the command is "dcs_updater update @release" Or alternatively, just use It's a GUI way of handling multiple DCS installs.
  8. This is a new feature of 2.9 I believe, so you'll need to update before you can use it. Fully understand the preference to remain on Stable release. Just know that you can switch between the two if you want (Skatezilla's Update Utility is great for this), or if you have enough SSD space, you can have 2 installs for trying out the new features (which is what I recommend and prefer doing, but I understand not everyone has the space for this).
  9. That's all fair points. I guess it depends on your world view / priorities. I take the approach of "Buy right, buy once" - so I'm prepared to spend the bigger bikies up front if it means I'm not losing money long run to crawl before walking. (Although I failed on that one when I though the X56 should do the job for me and then had to go again with the VKB and Virpil combo's). From my perspective, there is a lot more you can know without having to try first. I bought my last motorcycle that way. Ordered it without a test ride. (Partly out of necessity because I don't live anywhere where I could get a test ride even when it did come in), but there's enough reviews, etc that gave me a decent understanding of what to expect and I could make a relatively informed decision. Same with the 4090, never got a chance to give it a test ride. I don't know what the G2 is going for now on ebay, but maybe it's far less than I'm thinking. I guess the important thing is for us to back our thoughts with why, so the OP (and others) can make an informed decision not just based on our thoughts, but why we come to those conclusions to start with. Thanks for the detailed reply!
  10. it looks like you're locked into 60fps (except for when it drops down). Would I be correct in assuming that when it's below 60fps, it's saying GPU bound, and when you're at 60fps it's saying CPU bound? if so - it looks like it might be locking to the frequency of your HMD. Just remember, it's always going to say either "CPU Bound" or "GPU Bound" - ALWAYS one or the other. If the GPU has overhead room (such as if it could go to 65fps, but is being locked to 60fps because that's all you need) it is going to say CPU bound - even if you have overhead with your CPU too.
  11. No - salute won't work until you go full AB with the latest OB.
  12. Even with DFR? Re the HP. I have a HP Reverb, while I like it - I acknowledge it's old tech now. That, plus certain issues with the cable being the weakest link (and difficulties getting a replacement depending where you live) would have me questioning buying a HP Reverb as a replacement. On Ebay - I'd be wondering how many have 'begun' to have issues with their cables and how long they will last. For my next purchase, I won't touch headsets that can't support DFR. From what I'm finding - this is a huge deal (even more than the GPU you use) when it comes to performance if setup right. While there may be cheaper headsets and save some money - I wonder if the price difference between a budget one, and a good VR headset with DFR is more cost effective than what would be needed to 'up' the GPU for the equivalent.
  13. Did you just mark your own reply as the solution, instead of CFRAG's post?
  14. Have you gone through the optimization procedures. Things like ensuring that the clock speed is fixed/set above 5.0ghz (no throttling is going on), disabled HAGS, disabled CPU parking, RAM is running at optimum speed, etc? It does sound strange that it's CPU limited - but I know with my 13900K I had to do a lot of tweaking in order to get advertised speeds. Straight out of the box I think there's a lot of things (both BIOS and Windows based) that will severely hamper it's ability to perform at it's capabilities.
  15. Are you running Motion Reprojection? If so you will always be CPU bound, because Motion Reprojection will drop your frames further, ensuring that the GPU is rarely (if ever) running at capacity. The CPU bound doesn't mean that the CPU is getting cooked - it just means that you're not GPU bound because of the motion reprojection. Turn off MR and you'll probably see yourself go GPU bound at higher frames than you're currently getting.
  16. If there's a Halloween release, my bet would be that it's the "Preorder" that's released on Halloween, not the actual product being available, since it's been announced that there will be a preorder first.
  17. Just confirming that this issue hasn't been fixed in the latest 2.9? That it's still a known issue?
  18. I stand corrected. I'm guessing maybe ED have a different terminology of hotfix vs patch compared to what I've been familiar with.
  19. A 'hotfix' would have been more likely to have been released on Monday or Tuesday (ie, outside of the usual scheduled times). If they release anything now, it'll probably more be a patch than a hotfix given that it's Thursday again. I know... Symantec's and OCD don't go well together.
  20. Respectfully, I would question this. My questioning is: G2 is old tech. It has no DFR, and has known issues regarding cable being the weak point. Don't get me wrong - HP G2 is a nice headset for when it was released, but I really feel that it's beginning to show it's age. Plus I can't get past the difficulties people have when a cable goes faulty just trying to source another from HP. I like not requiring base stations, but would have to question the benefit vs loss if it came to compromising with another G2 just for this alone.
  21. I had my Reverb start to go dark, but it normally coincided with me looking in certain directions (ie, up high, or down behind me, etc). Ended up being the cable on it's way out. They are unfortunately the weak link when it comes to HP. However in your case, I don't know if this is the case, as you'd be looking ahead both times, and not moving during launch. The fact that it's happening consistently and at the same time, and only during that part makes me wonder if this is like the 'g-force black out' bug I experienced a while ago in the F14 - if there's something in the mission or the trim or the way you're launching (or the DCS update) that could be causing this. A couple of things you can try to narrow it down: 1) Posting a track file here to see if other people can run it and whether they get the same result as you 2) Try rolling back to Stable Release if you're running Open Beta and try again and see if the problem persists, or goes away
  22. I have supersampling a try last night (PD of 1.3). I think there's something to this. Whether it's placebo (and I don't think it is) - it definitely seems to be adding clarify. At present I've dropped back to 60hz (HP Reverb) and have been able to hit 60fps consistently (4090 with some high settings, trees, forest, grass to full, etc) with reasonable overhead available. I figure I'll play with it a bit more, and if I think I can hit 90 consistently I might switch over to that, but I have a feeling in order to hit 90 I'm going to have to sacrifice a little bit of detail/forestry/grass/etc.
  23. Starting with what settings you are using, and what your PC specs are might be a good start. It wouldn't hurt to specify where the fps drops occur too (flying, in the menu / everywhere in DCS / multiplayer / single player, etc). Many people here are having issues (different issues and different causes) depending on peripherals. Plenty of people like to help here, but you'd need to give a bit more information
  24. What problem are you having where you say it 'no longer works'? I was using it on 2.9 this weekend. The only problem I had was "NOT YET CENTERED IN GAME" showing up, where I had to use a workaround as per the post above yours.
  25. OK - I must have my terms mixed up. I thought (in very layman terms): DLAA was what smoothed the edges and reduced shimmering (the Anti-Aliasing). Aka MSAA but a smarter version of it with less performance hits. DLSS is a 'super sampling' option that works similar to reducing the PD below 1 where it renders at a lower resolution, and then upscales, but it uses some fancy AI stuff to 'fill in the gaps' when upscaling. As a crude example, quality might be similar to a PD of 0.9 for rendering, but then upscales with guesswork. Balanced might be equiv of 0.8, performance 0.7, etc... Regardless of how it works, if that's working for you - I'll definitely be giving it a try my next opportunity. I obviously have some misunderstanding of what DLSS is though. Glad to hear there's more options for me to try/tweak that may give me even better results. In regards to the 'smooth filter' you refer to - is that a setting for the oculus? (ie, it's not OpenXR or DCS related)?
