  1. Unless you're a newcomer to DCS, F-18 is probably the only options since DCS don't put out new modules very often. ;)
  2. Agreed, the A-10C tutorials are a great place to get started, and along with practice missions help you to get many different procedures into muscle memory. I refer to the manual very seldom and prefer to find info from the great posts and video tutorials in this forum. It takes some time and practice but anyone can learn to do this, and the rewards are far beyond anything you'll get from simpler sims.
  3. I'm having the same problem with my Rift, but don't think I'll opt for this solution!
  4. That is correct, I don't even have SteamVR installed.
  5. There's nothing wrong with that, it allows you to plug headphones in the other end of the Y for other purposes, but it's not necessary for the purpose of playing DCS with the Rift. If the splitter is not necessary, just plug the ButtKicker directly into your headphone jack.
  6. Using Oculus Rift, ButtKicker Gamer and SimShaker for Aviators software here. As mentioned earlier, simply set SimShaker to user the sound card that the the ButtKicker is plugged into. This works extremely well for the Huey, especially during start-up :) I just can't use Oculus Rift without the ButtKicker anymore!
  7. I've gotta try this stuff (when the wife is away!).
  8. I'd say head tracking of some sort is essential in most A-10 missions. You need to look at your MFCD's and flip switches all while maintaining situational awareness. If I didn't have TrackIR I would have given up on flight simming long ago. ;)
  9. +1! I've completed Huey missions in VR that I never would have been able to do on a flat monitor. Flying and SA is so much easier because it's so natural in VR.
  10. Agreed, not the best place. Anyway I managed to finish and the foggy sunset setting in this mission was simply awe inspiring. What a fantastic campaign!
  11. You could be waiting a long time for Pimax for a long time, and the Oculus bundle had a great price right now (bird in hand, and all that). I'm extremely happy with my Rift, and wouldn't be disappointed even if a superior product comes out in the next year or two. I haven't tried Vive, but heard it's a little heavier. The Rift is incredibly light and comfortable, especially if I'm wearing contact lenses rather than glasses.

  13. Ditto! Had CH HOTAS for 12 or more years and no desire to use anything different.
  14. Thanks, Simicro, I'll try that. This one is definitely challenging. Love watching the Tomahawks launch from the Argo deck!
  15. Enjoying flight sims in VR in it's current state is hardly "fooling ourselves". Everyone agrees there are many deficiencies that really need to be improved in the next generation. In the meantime, many of us are having a blast with these things! Those who are not, suit yourselves. Just because we are having fun doesn't make us wrong. ;)
  16. Holy moly, that does sound like fun!
  17. Interesting, I wonder if it's because AC is on paved roads and you can see farther in distance. How does Jetseat compare to BK?
  18. Oculus should really promote the Buttkicker as a way to alleviate motion sickness. I can't overstate just how much this helps! 3 hours of intense Dirt Rally last night and not a flicker of discomfort. ;) Without BK I'd be filling airsick bags after the first hour.
  19. I was away from the rift for four weeks due to circumstance, and got back into it last night. It wasn't nearly as blurry as I remembered, I was astonished at how sharp the picture was! I suspect the rift wasn't sitting properly on by head before, and after adjusting the straps I get a much clearer picture. Dammit, I could live in that thing if I didn't have to work, eat, shower,......!
  20. After a while it makes you wonder how we played on 2D monitors for so long. Just goes to show how much imagination goes into playing these games.
  21. Agree with the OP, you definitely feel there's much more at stake in VR. It's a shame that the resolution is so crappy, but should we let that stop us from enjoying VR now while we wait for technology to improve? NO! :) It's especially great for WWII and helicopter sims, and simply *exceptional* for racing sims. However, for modern jet sims where much of the workload is inside the cockpit with avionics, I can totally understand that people might prefer a sharp monitor and TrackIR.
  22. Lately I haven't been able to get MSI Afterburner to display anything in the Rift, only on the monitor when not playing in VR. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it a configuration thing?
  23. Excellent, really great to see WWII scenarios flourishing in DCS!
  24. Looks great... frothing with anticipation!
