  1. I was impressed with Microprose F-19 barely runnable on my mighty Tandy 25 mhz monster computer!!! Lines for runways, triangles for mountains. AND.. If you had a mega 30 mhz fire breathing machine you could enable the HIGH graphics settings which enable even more dots and random triangles. Man you younger guys are living in what we old simmers thought was a hundred years off. I mean RAM being used for a hard drive!! Wing Commander's panel having "wires" hang down and spark when getting damage had my jaw hitting the floor. Just take ALL money. To recreate Vegas, Area 51 I would have laughed at you 20 years ago.
  2. Download the NASA P-47 IN DEPTH study. A link provided a page or 2 back. Should help eliminate any dart throwing and apples to oranges comparisons. It is more than you probably ever wanted to know on just about every configuration including getting a FAIL by the USAF for it's hands off stability. Also, yeah I bought 2 "Butttkicker" sound tactile systems. One drill into my wooden seat and one attached to my TM pedals. When you pour on the coals it wants to shake your teeth out and your eyes cannot even read the panel. A MUST imo especially for the Warbirds.
  3. Great stuff and tonight's read. I really appreciate the goldmine of info on the P-47. That NASA doc is very long but already I have taken one key bit of info. Don't EVER let go of the stick.
  4. Gobs of SSD and 32g ram,VR and I ended up cutting the preload by 1/2 and it helped, flyable even. However throw in some wingmen, some enemy AI and we know where that will send the fps. Like the others patience.
  5. "Fly the engine" The 51 has a notoriously wicked roll if power was slammed on especially on a go around. I watched a real 109's throttle range and it was only a few inches forward to go from idle to all you could handle. The Jug carry a lot of inertia so you have to be smooth on the rudder with power changes or she can/will swing on you. I am more concerned about the trim and elev. Maybe some PIREP from a actual test flight could confirm/deny that FM area.
  6. I literally just flew my 1st flight and the first thing I said was dam thats orange.
  7. When I start seeing loot boxes and you can get power ups, armor and OP weapons I will start getting upset. Until then, as long as ED keeps fixen em and polishing them no matter how old, I will keep buying.
  8. Well I just took my 1st 10 minute hop and within a few minutes was I started feeling a little unwell. Others can do it in certain conditions but this one hit quick. I had not read about issues before flying so it wasn't already "in my head". Cranked a fan on me and spent more time looking outside helped. This is in VR at a fairly solid 45 with uppper level graphics.
  9. As a test I put ONE easy AI 109 full fuel against 6 ACE P-51s including me, low fuel., unlimited ammo . I even had this slaughter over a dozen friendly AAA gunning at him. His pass and quick blips on the gun usually results in hitting 1 or more critical systems if not death. We were armed with marshmallows. There were times I was glued to hid 6 and holding down the trigger till my wrist was sore. He was smoking, parts falling off started repeated themselves. After 10 or so of these he won the majority of the sometimes long dogfights. Now go after some well defended bombers if you want to swiss cheese a plane in record time.
  10. I fly alone and rely on making missions and flying against the AI or lack of. I have tried 3x to write a short, concise reply but it gets LONG and R rated very quickly. Lets me just say last night I had a typical mission. 6 ACE P-51s including me against ONE EASY 109 over a dozen friendly AAA gunning after him. He won and disappeared over the horizon smoking and looking like Swiss cheese. Somebody must have given us marshmallows for bullets and he got depleted uranium ones.
  11. Buy a "Buttkicker". I attached one to my chair and liked it so much for games, music etc that I bought a second one I put on my TM pedals. On the warbirds or if you watch a large explosion from a outside view it will rattle the filling out of your teeth. Now we need a louder "THUMP" on landing which will really work well with the BK.
  12. In 1983 my state of the art Tandy computer from Radio Shack in todays money was over $3500 It was so I could run Microprose F-19. Cutting edge with lines for runways and triangles for mountains. Enabling the "advanced graphics" which was more dots, the machine choked and we had to wait for the 30 MHZ model. Microsoft flight sim their longest running program with unlimited resources STILL had a resource buggy mess after 37 years. Then one of the largest military contractor got a hold of it and they ran into all the same problem. Welcome to flight simming. If always being behind the tech curve and not being willing to tweak settings and understand ALL flight sims are a work in progress, sometimes DECADES, this might not be for you.
  13. I would really like more control over the sound such as more sliders. I run through a 4 speaker system with 2 "Buttkickers" to vibrate the seat and pedals. You tweak to get the cockpit sound where you want it but if I watch a external view of bombs exploding the filling in my teeth start falling out!! The internal vs external sound difference are very far apart. Also would be nice to adjust the rolling, touch down, gear up/down etc. Not just for one's personal pref but for those who have sound transducers to give tactile feedback.
  14. My 16 was always slowly and ever so slightly banking to the left. Oh great... I suspected those helis ruined another expensive TM WH stick so I took it apart, cleaned it. Still.... So I messed with the settings a true sign of desperation. The cause??? Al it took was to have anything on the wing tip even the smallest missile to create the bank. Another thing to do if one has ANY issues is try ANOTHER SAVED OR NEW SITUATION. Wind, air effects, elevation, the runway, the load out etc.. By using that saved situation with the same variables the issue is hard to find. Ground contact is notorious for being simulate for both flight sims and racing sims.
  15. The 109 gives me a hell of a time. I cannot even find the switch to open the fuel door
  16. Just got it and LOVE the plane. Reminds me of the F-104. If you don't show the proper respect and get sloppy it will bite you in the butt. Every button/switch etc on my TM HOTAS is valuable and I have FIVE dedicated just to the gear! Now that I have about 1 hr tt in her I can free some up but in VR looking down towards the gear/AP etc is tough. I have also flown into the ground while trying to find these very small switches.
  17. Placebo.... I also noticed a nice fps boost until I looked over at Nellis and it looked like a jaggy mess. The cause of the fps boost was my msaa got turned off. Changed it back to 2x and afaik it is the same. One thing I learned is after a update always reboot. I no longer delete and rebuild the shaders as I have never noticed any change.
  18. The ai in DCS overall is horrible not just the KA50. I remember as a test setting up ONE Fw-90 AI loaded with fuel and on easy against me and one expert ai. He dominated us. Then I added 2 wingmen, then 3 then 4 and eventually threw in some triple a. We were obviously shooting marshmallows and all of his were "golden bbs" each hitting a critical system or headshot. It's best to go solo and setup flight plans and just join in and "pretend" to be part of the pack.
  19. Well one thing that really works well is the damage model! I got shot down the other day from a kid with a slingshot. I see 2 types of damage. Complete and utter destruction. Think headon with a concrete truck. And two. The one where it wobbles around giving you the false hope you can at least get it back on the ground which it DOES but not in the graceful way you intended.
  20. Last week I bought the KA50 at full price after seeing the new textures and cockpit. I was already familiar from the old days. That said my thumb is sore from moving my Warthog hat the scroll that dam lazer. I reset it and sometimes start to drift which is annoying as hell. With so many other button, switches, modes, sequences etc I assumed I was doing something wrong. Turning OFF auto to man helped but there has to be a easier way to move that SLOW reticle which is not only a pita but alo during the heat of battle frustrating.
  21. I flew the Hornet for the 1st time in a few weeks and nose up pitch is very pronounced and trim does nothing. It was so bad I dumped my weapons and the plane handled better but still nose up. This is using the full TM Hotas setup. Come to think of it... I own most of the modules and ALL have been doing strange things. That last update really screwed things up.
  22. Great. The thing is I love a heavily weathered pit and signs of wear, skydrol runs, paint flaking etc. I even have expensive new guitars that are "reliced" which often 2x/3x the price. But to do reflections that work under all conditions has never really been perfected.
  23. Get rid of em. Great for screenshots and I appreciate the effort but more often than not they are just something else not needed that cause problems. In my case the Harrier looks ok with a perpetual fog. However at night it looks like it was cleaned with a oily rag. Displays and gauges have not bothered me yet. All this said, if this eye candy can be made user optional then pile on the bug splats, pigeon poo and have stuff fly around the pit when inverted.
  24. Easily 80% of my TT irl were at night and 1/2 of that was wearing various NVGs. I can tell you that in the mid 90s up around 5-8 thousand agl we could see the moonlight being reflected off of diy stills. If you were in the middle of a huge forrest and lit a cigarette, from up there it would look like a brilliant flash. B back OT... I wish that cockpit reflections were optional. The Harrier is way overdone and at night looks like it was cleaned with a oily rag. The "tron" lights just need some additional yellow/brows and it is doable.
  25. I have gotten so use to doing it. I have to look down and then move the mouse up. Then you bring your head up and hopefully the cursor is there Then you are able to give a wingman a order that he will refuse to do.
