At least it would give us something to do while the sim still crashes when it feels like it.

What a mess. I will just wait until the next patch. To many issues to list but ending any flight results in a screen freeze and a cnt/alt del and painfully slow restart even on the fastest ssd. Good luck and I will jump back in later.

They can keep the slow loading IN if they fix my hards crashes when ending a flight. VR

New Form of / Trigger for Physical Effects on Pilot Character?
JIMJAM replied to Frogisis's topic in General Bugs
It would be cool instead of instantly dying you experience "injuries". Even if it is a gradual loss of vision or the old effect of the screen going red. Watching the terribly overpowered AI shred you with every bullet hitting a critical system is no fun. Struggling to limp back to base is. -
I just flew the Harrier at 2200 Batumi and well..... The stars are very big and very bright. Not sure why devs think we need cockpit glass reflections but the during the day it is annoying but the night is horrible. Looks like the CC cleaned it with a oily rag. VFR to the nearest airport and I couldn't even find it. All of the ground lights are neon and overly white. Needs more yellow. Not even going to pile on about the clouds.Reading the bug section these are the least of our worries but at least they are working on them. I was VR.

Probably around 80% of my rl time is night and 1/2 of that is nvg. It is a hard thing to do and a one size fits all is impossible. I will do some night flying later but so far the sun bleached out the 190's pit and I had to lower the gamma a tad and it looks great. So far with the exception of a slower initial load and a little chugging over dense areas all is well.Looking forward to doing some LL night hunting in the Harrier. This is using vr.

A German bomber to balance it out. Crashed aircraft/heli wreckage to simulate SAR missions. That could include a damage model for armor/other vehicles. Damaged buildings or a "block" sized area of msc battle damage to place on the map.

As long as the user can adjust the graphics settings I am all for it. What I have seen over decades in sims is programmers will spend months if not years to get a few more fps and run smoothly only to have another add eye candy and you end up losing frames and performance. Repeat. I remember when you fired the gun there was a 1 second pause. Same with the explosions. The 97 cluster effect is incredible but at first it would ctd me. But YES.... i agree with the spinning clouds especially in VR.

One of my first paying jobs as a pilot was towing banners in Myrtle Beach with Cubs. The strip was parallel to the intercoastal waterway and the ocean so there was always a nasty crosswind and if/when you gunned it and had the slightest of hesitations, there was a good chance you were ending up in the drink. All that said.... YES, I find the Spit to be one tricky bird made worse when trying to go up against the ufo AI which planes and pilots do not abide by the same rules us earthlings do. The 109 is a close second and are "fly the engine" types and want to swap ends. Basically make the bird do what you want it to do and if she complains do it a little smoother. TM/Hog Hotas all around/ I stared at the TM pedals for months and could not justify $500 but eventually gave in. I can honestly say they are what the Warthog stick added to immersion and precision to the rudder. Makes flying the warbirds much more "pleasant".

How realistic is the AI in a fight?
JIMJAM replied to DCS FIGHTER PILOT's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Well last night I had a AI pilot who alone could have ended WW2 early. He was easy/full fuel in a Spit. Then there was me and 3 highest level pilots in 109s. I also added a 4 ship of 190s 1/2 fuel. Out of 4 engagements, he won 3 outta 4. So I added another TWO 4 ship 190s and also littered the interception area with 12 various AAA pieces. This leveled it out to a 50/50 win loss but eventually I figured out that the enemy AI WANTS YOU way more than anyone closer or on his 6. I then would mege full speed and as he chased the TWELVE!! Wolves picked away at him. Once smoking I would re enter the fight. 12 VS ONE!!!! Sign him up!!!!! -
I have been having that if I am lucky is a 2-5 second "pause" and if I am not I get the dreaded message DCS has crashed..." No rhyme or reason just outta the blue WHAM. Tried every and I mean every suggested way. Loading older Nvidia drivers, update bios, went back to stock vs overdrive etc etc..

I just bought the Spitfire .Any rudder assistance turned off and after a dozen or so to/landings I concluded that all the horror stories about its bad tendencies were over blown. THEN IT HAPPENED. I could not longer take off as if the plane had a minds of its own. I then started in air and the same thing. Then I went to a outside rearview and there it was. The tail was going left full stop. I see r&l brake settings in the control menu but from what I can see they are on or off and separate. Makes no sense.Am I missing something? Is the only way to taxi is to use the prop blast to sloppily go in a direction and the brake to stop? Anyways, after ANOTHER CTD issue with the rudder vanished.

Microsoft has unlimited budget and 20+ yrs and the sim still required a PHD and a NASA computer to run it. Now Lockhead freakin Martin is trying with it's expertise. Since Microprose F-19 I have spent 3/4 my time tweaking rather than flying. Now toss VR into the mix and it really is frustrating. My headache is I make a change and DCS behaves. Just right when you think you got it WHAM. CTD.. No rhyme or reason just outta the blue stalls and then you slide down your VR and see the error message. So far the only things that on MY system that appear to make it worse are highly overclocking my card or ram. Stability test means nothing. All USBs need to be the latest and do not use a hub. Lastly, everyone says hit alt/enter to go into full screen. It is also checked in options. Last few days I have not used alt/enter and the crashed have reduced by 1/2. Stability in DCS VR is inversely proportional to the fun you are having and how long you spent building up that complex mission with the editor.
-
I would rather DCS not run at all than to make a change which appears to solve the issue and then out of the blue usually when you are really having fun and BAM.... CTD. My folders are also a mess. The only good news is I learned to save your input/aircrafts/ folder that has ALL your hard work setting up your controls. I have a dozen modules so from scratch you are looking at a long time.

Just have 2 quick questions about installing.
JIMJAM replied to JIMJAM's topic in Installation Problems
My folders are a wreck. I was using the stable version and then the 16 came out so I DL the open beta so I could fly it. The " C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS" was on my C drive even though the games are on my SSD which has no " C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS" So I copied it over the the SSD drive. All that said, I had the 2 versions but changed the names of the folders so I could jump back and forth if needed. Anyways, I just made a DCS folder and put in all the open beta. The run exe and the bin/ DCS updater exe icons right clicked say it is the latest ver and when clocked on the game DOES load. However the lower rt hand v number reads 75541171 What a mess. But like I said Normandy is upgraded, 16s wing flexes etc just the ver number is wrong. Thanks for your help. All these versions and different drives along with the C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS on C rather than the SSD drive where the DCS version are loaded has made a wreck of it. -
CTDs galore so I took the usual steps. I appeared to get my dcs.exes confused with run.exe and updater. First, If you just want to straight up run the game which exe do you use? I am running open beta. Same with using a 2nd party prog to run the sim, which .exe do you point it at? 2nd, my icons properties say the version is the most recent 29128..... However, on the opening screen, lower right corner I read another number. A 255... something or another. I see f-16 flex, Normandy additions etc so I know it is the latest just wonder why the 2 version numbers don't jive. And lastly...I have a C drive and a SSD. I have DCS on the ssd. When you install the full open beta does it put some info on the C drive and the bulk of the sim on the ssd? Reason I ask is when deleting the shaders everythone points to the c/ uses/saved games .... Sorry it is 3 am here and need to stop. I just did a clean/repair and the sim is running but ALL dozen of my modules lost their control bindings as with all the sims settings. And yes I saved them and put them back but they are not showing up. Any help appreciated.:)

[NEED TRACK REPLAY]AI rubber banding offline
JIMJAM replied to Bagpipe's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
I only fly offline and the AI is and was something very lacking for decades. I am amazed what the programmers can do and it is WAY better but still frustrating. A typical dogfight lets say using ww2 planes usually goes like this. I set the ai to the easy setting and 100% fuel. My wingmen are set at the highest level. Just last night a AI 109 defeated THREE AI P-51s at the highest level. Meanwhile I was shooting marshmallows at him until my wrist hurt. The AI 109 which was immune to stalls, blackouts and must have installed a rocket engine, makes a quick head on pass and not only took my wing off but head shotted me! Like I said I am amazed at what can be done but wish there was a way to tinker with the settings. I wonder what the AI skill level even does? -
Welcome. There are literally hundreds of post and how to's on performance and there is no magic formula. If someone knows they could be rich. I do not know your gaming experience but first search on basic ways to get your computer running well in general such as stopping background programs not needed from running while flying. I use Razer Cortex which you start DCS with and it closes them for you. Also search this forum to learn how to delete and let dcs rebuild your shaders. Easy but I see no effect. As far as DCS settings there is no best way or one size fits all. I system is considered high end and if you search the forums MOST all of us have issues. Just start on low settings and one by one bump em up. The AA settings have always been a mystery working great for some and crashing systems for others. I can max everything out and mostly cannot see any difference other than more "stuff". Still looks like vasoline has been smeared on the screen and I get occasional freezes for a few seconds. This is on a fast ssd and 32 gigs of fast ram. I have just accepted VR is mainly for immersion and is best for ww2 birds and helis. Good luck and just search and trial and error. Many drop big $$ and try and use brute power on VR but it's just still in the experimental phase.

I get the plane where it is supposed to be and throw on the autopilot. It will hold everything but allows you to make adjustments and for me eliminated those huge pios and having to reset the approach. That said... On one post someone said that when you open the refueling door the aircraft automatically changes the sensitivity and control throws basically doing what my ap trick does. I have not verified that but can say in VR it is much easier.

Landings, bah! show me your air to air refueling!!
JIMJAM replied to Harley Davidson's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
i get into the proper position and ht the autopilot. The tanker needs to be on a long straight path but the AP dampens your movement and helps greatly reducing PIOs and overall the frustrating up and down over controlling. -
I have been fighting pauses and CTDs since I dusted off my Oculus 2 weeks ago. I found out that you do not want to use a external usb hub. I installed another usb card and plugged my TM stick/throttle/rudder into it. I also turned off the wifi. I also turned down the overclocking on my 1080ti. It does not matter if you have test, go back to default and see what happens. As of right now, on occasion I get a long pause right when something is about to happen. Flying into clouds, cluster bombs, basically anything that appears quickly. Btw I7 6700k 1080ti 32 gigs ram/ssd

Yeah old schooler here who loves round gauges, lots and lots of knobs, buttons and leaves a long black streak across the sky. This looks great for the menu clickers. Hell it even takes itself off. It has a role for me. As a TARGET.

Thanks... Odd thing I have been using trackir again as I missed a huge screen and the clarity it offers. In the last 2 weeks I dusted off my goggles. I also have the full TM HOTAS setup and changed my trackir setting to cockpit cam up/down and frd/rev/ iirc. That solves any views issue. I noticed the VR zoom was already assigned to my wh throttle. I wanted to move it but cannot find the bindings.

To prevent me from injuring my neck from trying..... When you turn and look over your shoulder can you see the wings? I can only see approx 90 degrees l/r. Any switches on either the l or r rear panels are almost impossible for me. BRW-Oculus with 2 sensors. Can the overall range of vision be increased either via DCS or Oculus software. My neck thanks you.

All I have to say is man am I glad there are CLUSTER BOMBS!!!! My high end pc and video card that cost more than my first card disagree but the end justifies the means.
