  1. Sorry for the slow response but we are still cleaning up from the hurricane that came through. Last night I flew for a quick hop and noticed during the initial shallow climb out when I turned ON the radar the aircraft pitched up. I approached 2 known enemy ai and used the WH hat to scroll the targeting square and when I hit the "lock" button the aircraft again yanked upwards as if the plane were aquiring the target. The rapid up/down continued the rest of the flight even after turning OFF the radar. Try landing on the carrier with your Gear down/flaps/hook down and having someone throwing the speed brake/flaps on and off. That is the overall sensation and result yet no cockpit indication or external view shows any of this happening. Guess it is time for a reinstall. Vanilla btw.
  2. Good one. Will check tonight. However this issue usually happens with no input "that I am aware of" of my own such as the lock target button which there appears to be a definite connection.
  3. With the Hornet cleaned up level flight I have always had a issue which I assumed was "auto flap" or other automatic configuration system kicking in. Here is typically what happens. Say flaps are in the "up" toggle up position. Usually level but not always I will get a rapid nose up/nose down pitch up. IIRC the airspeeds are usually sub 300. The visual pitch change is also accompanied with a audio rush of turbulent air which I assume is a rapid AOA change and also a decrease in speed. This issue is continuous, happen back to back etc but does happen every flight. After t/o and climbing out for example or hands off level flight with ap off. I also noticed this issue happening when hitting the target lock button mapped to my WH. It is as if the aircraft is pitching up as would a radar or missile. I did a quick check of all my bindings and the only one for that "lock", forget the exact terminology" was enter which I deleted. Any ideas? If this has been covered previously I apologise. Thanks.
  4. "I dont know, I have the funny impression that all that procedural stuff that I personally love (especially being a pilot myself, it really speaks to me very much!) might be a bit too much detailed and strict for many casual gamers and in the end, this gold mine will get lost in the very numerous threads about this and that... too bad! Many casual simmers start that way but end up with enough addons to buy a small car and a Warthog HOTAS setup or even cockpits. I was trained by mil instructors and have been RTB for not maintaining taxi centerline. I recall control checks were done in as few turns of the head as possible. When tuning any knob you took the shortest direction to get to that number. Training was basically done via a firehose. My last aviation position was for the State of SC Aeronautics Commission and while I have been simming since Microprose F-117 and decades later enjoyed doing "Cold and darks" with a PMDG 747, now I am just the opposite. All the DCS modules I start running, don't use ATC and only thumb through a PDF if I must. For me sims are now a escape from reality. Flying without a dozen people looking over your shoulder from planning to the ramp and even once you clear the fence "black" boxes have everything you did so there is no hiding anything. What the vids do is provide the basic info to build a good foundation. It's doing the same thing over and over and over the same way each and every time. Then and only then you introduce "doing that pilot sh*t" to achieve a desired result. With the cost of printer ink being so high I would LOVE for someone offer laminated checklist "hint hint". That should be the very 1st thing a budding by the book simmer should obtain and use every flight. As for me I throw on the VR and see what happens when I move something hahahaha....
  5. I really did look forward to updates but any more they cause me anxiety. I was borderline OCD keeping up with the latest, greatest drivers but a few recent Microsoft updates, Nvidia and even a few DCS ones have broken that obsession. Appreciate the replies.
  6. Thanks. I stumbled across that after my post and changed the shortcut. After the update the number I see on the bottom right is not what the ver number that the latest update post says. More confusing than a type rating in a Chinese airliner.
  7. I just posted a lack of getting auto updates in another forum and stumbled across this. I am currently running 252 18521 What is the fix? autoupdate_log.txt
  8. Last purchase was the persian map and Hornet. I noticed a few times I had to manually enter my name/password. I also noticed I was not getting the "checking for updates" and have not gotten any but noticed at least two being posted. I am currently 252 18144 If I am reading the latest update it shows it as being 252 18736 Any idea on why I am not getting updates and how to get current? Also, if a update is out, does DCS still notify you when you 1st load the sim? Thanks ahead of time. Jim
  9. As of the 3rd vid he has only commented once on the flight model but one observation he has that is shared by many including myself if the throttle response is slow/weak/ iirc. While doing pattern work he had to push the throttle really high and into burner just to achieve another 10 knots or so. To early to call it a FM issue or something that needs tweaking but I am looking forward to when he turns his attention to the fidelity of the aircraft.
  10. Great to see he got some attention and decided to post more. Roll em!!!!
  11. If already posted I apologise but it is simply too good to go unwatched by those who might have missed it.
  12. Everytime I select GUN, the first time I hit the trigger a missile fires. Just one. Then the gun works normally. Anyways, just landed on a carrier and it froze 10 ft off the deck not to move again. I have gotten accustomed to unexplainable things in DCS so it is biz as usual.
  13. During my 30 yr rl aviation career I have watched 10s of thousands of landings and especially among the airliners. We could always spot the airforce guys vs the naval pilots. The navy pilots always flew the nose up throttle controlling decent profile with less than smooth touch downs right smack on the numbers as per the F-18 method where most airforce guys were slight nose up, flat to nose down with a healthy flare and as long as the TD was somewhere on the 1st 1/4 of the runway they were happy with it.
  14. I am usually really, really into realism even if it makes the flight model feel cheap or being difficult but in this case I am all ears. I LOVED the old F104 Starfighter which had numerous things that if you were not dead on you were literally "dead". The Hornet has a throttle response as slow as a 50s jet, a trim that feels like it is connected with rubber bands and a morphing config changing at critical times, base, final, etc is a real handful. Which is "ok" but I also jump around from 6 other aircraft. Currently I have about a 30-40% success rate catching a wire and 60% or so missing a wire or planting the "crash by wire" Hornet into the front of the moving runway. All that said I would not want it any other way but looking forward to trying to lock in the flaps.
  15. Harrier/Persian map/Hornet.
  16. From day one I buy,hit a few buttons and fly. The last few days I hear about this huge update imo WED 6th or Tues. I have not seen it during my game starts. So I go to the module manage which I admit I never visited and see that among my dozen or so purchases the Harrier which I got day 1, the Persian Gulf and the Hornet which I got 2 days ago have NO serials numbers or DRM boxes. They load, run great with no messages or request for serial numbers, activations. Is something wrong?? I have email receipts from DCS and PP with order numbers but the manager does show them but no serial numbers. Don't worry about it? Normal? Is the update Friday? Probably needlessly stressing out but want to stay current. EDIT---- It appears I do have the latest patch. Question still remains about the above modules not having serial numbers.
  17. I am yet to see this update.
  18. Speaking of a new SSD.... I had no choice as my main SSD was full so I just got a 1tb SSD. Moved DCS over and simply placed another shortcut on my desktop. The difference was very noticeable when the initial map load took 10 seconds. Then I noticed my fps stayed well over 120-160 and gone were the small hitches during fast rolls and tight turns. No doubt adding ai and missions will knock it down but running DCS by itself on a large ssd is the worth the $$$. Don't need 1 tb but thats what I said a year ago when I got the one 1/2 it's size. Do it!!
  19. On my dedicated sim machine 17 6700 OC 4.8, SSD-16 G w/ 1080TI i am showing any where from 75 to 120+ frames any where, smooth with no hiccups and then WHAM. I get slammed to desktop. Have not checked my resources. I do run other very detailed sims/games and any weakness would have surfaced as I run 4k VR. In DCS I am only running 1080 and trackir. If I make any change, say VM, graphics, reboot, delete shaders, the sim will again load and run really great right up until WHAM. I see no common denominator or specific place, activity that it happens. Might be while the mission is loading. Might be within 5 minutes or the one I just had was after a 30 minute freeflight in the Harrier. Reading the crash post tells me they are all over the place.
  20. I just made a long post about how random these CTDs are. You, say update your drivers, change your VM settings, make a new mission, change planes , reboot etc and the sim loads and runs great. You think it is FIXED and then out of the blue WHAM. Repeat the above... As you, I have been "trying" to fly the Harrier but eventually get slammed to my desktop. Have not even tried VR as I suspect it will be worse. Something is imo running out of resources be it the card or VM and ctd. The post of crashes are all over the place and I see no common denominator. I7 6700K OC 4.8-16 g w/ 1080TI
  21. These crashes from my experiences and reading the numerous post are very random. What is strange is that say you delete the shaders the game will not crash. It will be noted in the post. Then soon enough DCS will crash again. So you update your vid drivers. Again, the game will run fine and you think it is fixed until C R A S H. A simple reboot, creating a mission from scratch, changing a setting, ANY CHANGES seems to "fix" the crashing and then out of the blue it crashes. I have lost count of how many times I have thought I found the issue. Changing virtual memory settings, a graphic setting, changing planes. DCS will load and right as you are certain the issue is solved it crashes. In my case it instantly crashes to desktop. This one is above my head.
  22. Yeah I apologise to anyone with ears. It was a dk move inspired by lack of sleep and never ending CTDs. I have been simming since Microprose F-119 and also know this region well. Just stressing out and posting instead of thinking. The latest W10 update never completed because of a endless loop of inability to reboot requiring a hard power off. After 3 wks of fail I stumbled across unplugging my system from it's backup power supply and directly into the wall. Well, that worked and it rebooted allowing for the update to complete. I was told via Nvidia I had the latest release. However, out of desperation I reinstalled Geforce experience I DID NOT have the latest driver. I could go on and on but bottom line is right when I think the CTDs are solved I get out of the blue usually when loading the Persian map. Don't post mad..... It is another class map and the devs are quick to reply, get on fixes and updates. Again sorry for being a azzole......
  23. Had another example today of Windows 10 things that make no sense. Tried for a solid week to update the latest W10 update. However each time it rebooted to complete the computer would never reboot. I had just a blank tv screen "no signal". Eventually gave up. Then later I recalled a situation I had so I unplugged the computer from my APC battery back up and directly into the wall. Ran the update and IT REBOOTED... Makes no sense. Have not read it any where. Flew a solid hr today with "knock on wood" no crashes. Now later I may put the gear up, turn a light off, fire a weapon and CTD but enjoy it while it last.
  24. Don't get to excited. Many MANY times you think it is "fixed" only to crash again. Since the new map I have been CTD so many times I gave up. Deleted the shaders and a MIRACLE!!! No crashes. Then today it's been CTD CTD CTD CTD. Created a new mission and another MIRACLE!! 3 flights later CTD CTD CTD CTD.....
  25. Not sure what I was expecting but the map is so underwhelming. It is flat, with a very dense area of buildings and, uummm flat. All the fancy buildings did is remind me of every time I get gas and seeing the receipt. After a quick tour I quickly jumped in the Huey which is really what this map is for. Buzzed the tallest building, buzzed the unique "frame" and was done. As far as fast movers it is going to be a see how low you can fly and missile dodging. It is Nellis with no mountains. Give me a piece of Afghanistan or even Syria or Iraq. Destroyed buildings, rubble and all.
