Absolutely, very surprising but very welcomed, some very good fixes there, and new stuff too. Well the F-4 seems to have gotten some improvements, like F-4 Ai lofting and using Mavericks

So I do a yearly "stress test" of DCS, and I don't mean a highly scientific one with FPS and CPU timings etc., just to test for myself. So don't except much useful info. But you do get to see a massive missile spam, some 111 AMRAAMS fired off in about 2 minutes. I also do some low and high level playing with the F-16 -

I would like info on the new General Flight Model that, was shown 2-3 years ago and then never again. Fragmentation simulation would be nice too. Secondary explosions based on unit type (ammo, fuel, explosives) Mk20/Napalm for the F18, so other modules can get Napalm (F4, F5, upcoming A6, A7, Corsair)- 32 replies

The A8 is about a ton heavier then the early A1-A4. But without any noticeable improvement in power. Imagine the Spitfire Mk XIV with 1100 horses from the Mk I instead of the 2000HP it did have. In real life those A8s not tasked with bomber attacks would remove the outer 20mm to save some weight (like we have in the D9) it's also possible they removed some of the armor stuff. When it comes to the AI the P51 is best. It doesn't seem to over preform. The A8, D9 and P47 AI is generally not very good. They all seem to just dive down to ground level and generally the only problem you'll encounter when fighting the A8 is it's ability to soak up huge amount of damage, far more then what a real aircraft could do. The Spitfire and 109K4 AI is generally insane, the AI can fly infinite WEP. And can't break their own engines. So the Spitfire can fly vertically up forever (while a human player would brick it's engine after about 10 seconds) making the Mk IX behave more like a Mk XIV. The 109k4 can do a super high G turn, turn 180 degrees and then easily overtake a P47 flying in the opposite direction at 350mph at 30 000 feet. The trick to beating any WW2 AI in 1 v 1 is to simply out turn them. This will activate it "defense AI" which is lazy turns. So in the Spitfire or I16. Simply out turn the AI and they'll do lazy turns and you'll just reel them in until you can blast them. Since the Fw190 can't really out turn anything. You won't easily get them to go stupid. And they'll be in offensive AI mode, which is far more difficult to deal with.

Jupp, ATC sends you and your wingpeople on different altitudes and headings and the AI complies. And communicate back. Imagine what those guys could accomplish with a large game budget.

I get it from my own dedicated server track. No fancy stuff or mods in use. Ran the mission twice and both times i get mission load fail. Never had that before

In DCS once you "eject " the aircraft is dead. So not sure how easy it would be to fix what appears to be a core thing. -
Having recently tried that other sim with fully working ATC and com ladders. It would massively improve DCS. Following the directions of ATC sets you up for perfectly lined up landing. Even in full VFR, you don't have to see the runway. Just follow directions of speed, attitude and heading and you end up on final with the runway a head of you.

I want an F-16 to suddenly get hit by a missile in a sneak attack, once I cross into a zone. but if I set explode unit, the pilot dies no matter how small the explosion is. if I set the unit AI life to 3, he does eject, but no explosion trigger activates(I assume because the unit is dead by that point as soon at the ejection is activated.

They haven't even been able to make the tracks show what actually happened ( and since the last patch it seems the tracks again are even more unreliable. After a good 6 months of tracks being mostly OK.) -

Still trying to familiarize myself with the A-10CII. But I always need an excuse and roleplay to even do some basic stuff. So some Strike Eagle pilots have been shot down in an unnamed war-torn country. With the local warlord hungry for power, capturing or killing American pilots would be a nice feather in his cap. A rescue helo is on its way, but an A10 is called in to do some CSAR. Having not spent a lot of time on the mission, it randomly lined up well, with me killing a tank just as it was about to blow up the Chinook. Lots of fiddling with systems I don’t really understand. -

Took me 3 weeks to edit this thing. Finally I got to delete 150gig of video. After the great air victory the day before. We have air superiority (at least for now) However the soviet tank horde. Is hard to stop. So far it's only been the Swedish army in its way while nato ground units consolidate around Kiruna. Now there's only 1 major river between the Soviets and clear drive towards Kiruna. The Swedish will try and contest the river crossing. But a platoon of infantry, a single tank and some artillery can't stop dozens of tanks, IFVs, rocket artillery, AAA and helicopters. So we must provide air support. Ideally we can stop the crossing, failing that. At least help the Swedish get away. 4 GR 3 Harries will fly north east of the river battle to try and take out soviet reinforcement coming down the roads While 4 F-4s and 4 F1 Mirages will try and help the Swedish. The other Nato aircraft, Norwegian F-5s, Luftwaffe F-4s, Finnish MiG21s, and Swedish viggen are all down for repairs and maintenance. I'm armed with 6 AGM-65As(very new technology in 74) and 114 rockets and some 600 rounds of 20mm. It becomes action packed. Taking out tanks. Infantry, IFVs, AAA, and dogfighting Soviet Hinds -
Nope. Nothing to be done. You'll get better at it. But it will never as good as other sims.

Quad Views (Pimax version) stops working after a while

Ah I have 1.30 something I think with no option to update. (Neither firmware or pimax Play) I assume you need some beta branch? Does the Pimax Play Quadview have the same option as the original one. With ability to adjust resolution, size of high resolution window etc? -
Same with the other ww2 sim. There you can see the yellow noses from far away even in VR. But in DCS units disappear into this "shadow" the swallows up colour and detail from just a few hundred meters. So anything except formation flying wil remove the details on the aircraft. Why ED never has done anything about this I don't know.

We won't get unarmed people for obvious reasons. But I'm all for more variety in ground units.

There's wounded affects in WW2, not super detailed but you will get blurry grayed out vision and heavy breathing. Personally I would like that on the jets. Imagine a Korea or Vietnam mission get some flak on your aircraft. You're wounded and have to make it to sea and either land on a carrier or eject as close as possible to a ship.
