Does the hover hold mode work for everyone? Because for me it didn't in the Caucasus take-off mission. No matter how I trimmed or pressed LAlt+T, it refused to engage. The route autopilot mode worked as usual though.

-
Absolutely nothing, just a mistake in the video.

Before the war the Soviet AF followed a class-based naming convention pretty much like an American one. I-16 stands for "Fighter (istrebitel) model 16" (ringing any bells? ), TB-3 is a heavy bomber and the U-2 (the chad stealth bomber, not the virgin recce plane) is actually a trainer. Later they changed the convention to refer to the chief designer of the aircraft in question, so the aforementioned U-2 was named Po-2 after its designer N. Polikarpov. BTW, he also designed the I-16 but they never changed the name since it was already out of production.

[DONE] Any updates coming for the JF-17 in 2022?
WarbossPetross replied to WRCRob's topic in JF-17 Thunder
You better make that optional because I like my JF-chan just the way she is! Especially after flying the Hornet, that hysterical bitch wants me to put my fist through the instrument panel whenever I need to pull out of a dive. I understand it's supposed to convey the need to pay attention, but that's a horrible way of doing it. -
I saw a phantom in ED's halloween sale video
WarbossPetross replied to Heinlein's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Are you sure it wasn't an AC-130? -

When you have no support from AWACS or other fighters the datalink screen displays only targets that your radar sees. In TWS it displays targets detected by the radar the same way it would if you had datalink support. There is no difference on the HUD apart from what you describe. That's really all the purpose of TWS: to improve own situational awareness, participate in datalink and hold the lock without alerting the target too much. Contact elevation and speed is displayed on the datalink screen on the symbols with the course line (the longer the faster) and the line perpendicular to that that looks like the hilt of a small sword (the longer the higher).

My point exactly. Modern Russian fighters are just that - too modern to be made as a module, so personally I had some hope for this non-serial but still existing prototype in the Black Shark fashion, but as things currently stand the EF skin is as close as we can get.
-
Pretty much the only way we're ever getting it.

-
La-7...pls tell us that it will be for DCS!
WarbossPetross replied to Hunter Joker's topic in OctopusG
Well, comrades, it's all official now! -
When I first saw the pyramids on the screenshots I couldn't believe my own eyes. Thank you! Not every day is for kicking up the dust, sometimes you just want to aviate around and see the sights, and your chosen region has so much promise in that regard.

No Sharm El-Sheikh airport in the plan? That's sad because Las Vegas and the Emirates cities are spectacular at other maps. Where am I going to taxi around in my C-130 full of ladies now...

Having data available != being able to use it. We know the Hornet has MSI and can merge A-A radar contacts with datalink contacts (among other lovely things). F-16 does it, F-14 does it, the Flankers do it but the Hornet cannot because ED says documents about Hornet MSI are still classified. That doesn't seem to stop the very same ED from making an entirely fictional MWS display on the Black Shark-3. I hope you can make sense of that (because I can't), my point being it can swing either way and it's up to HB to decide what they can or want to do. And yes, I wouldn't mind hearing from them about this but I guess they are simply not at that stage yet as they work on the Phantom.

I agree that the lack of FLIR makes a noticeable difference, and it's also useful in daytime (guess why all the cool tanks have it these days), but the good thing is that most MP servers have really nice sunny weather, so it's not as much of a problem there. As for me, I'm a fan since BS1 (yes, even before DCS, I still have the disks) and aside from the aforementioned the Shark is... somewhat boring. It just has all the things - the literal autopilot on top of hold modes, the laundry list of weapons including the cannon that pops heads a country mile away, powerful engines and efficient co-axis rotors (I never managed to catch the VRS, they just snap off when I try too hard), the ABRIS system with a built-in mission editor (guess where the ME map came from). The $5 or whatever for BS3 seems like a no-brainer.

now available When's black-shark 3 coming?
WarbossPetross replied to hawa0835's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yeah, and it would actually degrade now, don't know if it even does that at the moment. Which makes me wonder, will we be able to correct the INS with satellite data from ABRIS? I guess we should be able to type in the correct position every now and then. -

Essex should come with the Corsair-1 from Magnitude. Now let me talk about one particular elephant in the room that I'm starting to see taking shape with the latest module offerings. We have a lot of great modules either already in or on their way. The teen series, the Vietnam era deck queens - all the cool kids on the block. DCS does not have subscription, it makes profit only from selling new modules. So, what else is there to sell? What will the devs profit from, or even break even with the development costs? What will attract as much interest, and thus money, as the teen series? At some point the blue river will run shallow until there's simply nothing to offer that would sell enough to keep the lights on. Which brings us to the one obvious solution - red modules. Sooner or later someone has to make that step. Even if it's a clickable full-fidelity T-72.

My Blackshark video to the theme of Airwolf
WarbossPetross replied to jonsky7's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
And thank you for that, won't be able to find this gem otherwise! -
Now that the cat is out of the bag (almost), I have a somewhat unusual request. Can we have the manual now? I've made a library of all things DCS (official and Chuck's guides as well as some IRL documents) that I read in my spare time sometimes. If the manual is ready now, can it be published so we can prepare in advance and generally see what is there to be excited about? I bet that would be a tease!
