The guide has been updated. (I was waiting for the new DCS version, but with that now indefinitely delayed I'm releasing what I've got.) This features a large overhaul of the VR headsets section, as well as minor revisions across the guide.

Yes, and the competition goes as high as 240Hz Yeah, if you _already_ have one it's fine, but no reason to buy a new one. Interesting, I'll see if I can demo the newer version.

Thirded, the "Gulf Guardian" mission for the F-4E has this feature using a script, and it's a really nice affordance for the player to have their back seater or wingman call out a missile for them. I've been trying to make this work for a mission where a "peacetime" interception turns into a fight, so it's not enough to use a "unit damaged" trigger, I need the callout to happen when the missile is off the rail. For now I have an unreliable hack trigger instead.

The guide is now mostly stable with some minor iteration. I've also moved it out of Notion into a proper website.

MiG-29's BFM characteristics / doubts
intruder11 replied to Top Jockey's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
The US _did_ have an equivalent HMD (VTAS) deployed at the same time. They decided not to deploy it widely, though. The key word here is "dogfight". The US knew BVR combat was more important than dogfighting performance and prioritized that instead. Doesn't matter if you're even or disadvantaged at close range if you can win consistently at long range. -
MiG-29's BFM characteristics / doubts
intruder11 replied to Top Jockey's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
> An old mig29 should beat with no problem a modern F-16 or F-18 or mirage2000 in dogfight. We don't have to speculate- actual trials were performed! So: - Prior to the deployment of AIM-9X and western HMDs, it was indeed extremely capable in a dogfight. This advantage disappeared in 2002. - Pilot workload is higher than the western aircraft. - Fuel range is a significant limiting factor. Great plane to have a dogfight in through the 90s. Not the best choice to go to war in. So I'd say: > An old mig29 should beat with no problem a modern F-16 or F-18 or mirage2000 in dogfight. Is a false claim. But if we tweak it a bit: > An old mig29 should beat with no problem a F-16 or F-18 or mirage2000 of the same era in dogfight. Yeah, I think if there was a skilled pilot in the MiG-29, this is a plausible statement. -
CBU-87 armor penetration underperforms compared to public information

Bumping this- can we get a response from ED? Even a "seen"? -
This is all very confusing

Updated: - My buddy provided more information from testing the Bigscreen Beyond. After some tweaking, it's proven good enough to move into the recommended section- though like all VR headsets it has a number of caveats and tradeoffs to consider. - With the terrain changes in 2.9.3 we've found that you can push preload radius much higher than in previous versions. Updated guidance to encourage users to test higher preload radius settings.

SkyEye is a Ground Controlled Intercept (GCI) bot. It is an advanced replacement for the in-game E-2, E-3 and A-50 AI aircraft SkyEye is a substantial improvement over the DCS AWACS: SkyEye offers modern voice recognition using a current-generation AI model. Keyboard input is also supported. SkyEye has natural sounding voices, using a neural network to synthesize speech instead of robotically clipping together samples. SkyEye adheres more closely to real-world brevity and procedures instead of the incorrect brevity used by the in-game AWACS. SkyEye supports a larger number of commands, including PICTURE, BOGEY DOPE, DECLARE, SNAPLOCK, SPIKED , and ALPHA CHECK. SkyEye intelligently monitors the battlespace, providing automatic THREAT, MERGED and FADED callouts to improve situational awareness. SkyEye uses Speech-To-Text and Text-To-Speech technology which can run locally on the same computer as SkyEye. No cloud APIs are required, although cloud APIs are optionally supported. It works with any DCS mission, singleplayer or multiplayer. No special scripting or mission editor setup is required. You can run it for less than a nickel per hour on a cloud server, or run it on a computer in your home running Windows, Linux or macOS. SkyEye is production ready software. It is used by a few public servers and many private squadrons. Based on download statistics, I estimate over 100 communities are using SkyEye, such as: - Flashpoint Levant - Victor Romeo Sierra - DCS ANZUS SkyEye is free software. It is free as in beer; you can download and run it for free. It is also free as in freedom; the source code is available for you to study and modify to fit your needs. DCS ANZUS has made a nice demo video showing the bot in action: Learn more: Check out the README and FAQ for an introduction Read the Player Guide to learn more about what the bot can do Read the Admin Guide to learn how to deploy it alongside your DCS server. The admin guide also includes quick-start guides to run it on a Windows server using OpenAI Platform, on an Apple Silicon mac, or on a Linux cloud server.

Updated: - I purchased a Meta Quest Pro, and spoke to a buddy who has been using a Pimax Crystal and Bigscreen Beyond. Based on our findings, the guide now has more information on VR headset recommendations and tweaks specific to Meta headsets. Guidance on MSAA with VR is also updated. - Added a short section recommending some good headtrackers, and an anti-recommendation for buying NaturalPoint TrackIR due to high price and lower refresh rate compared to competing products. - Guide now clarifies how to find your Saved Games folder depending if you upgraded from Open Beta or started on Stable. - Updated guidance on SSD free space.
-
Updated: - Added recommendation against using Steam when playing in VR due to widely reported performance issues - Added a safer version of the antivirus tweak Spudknocker posted on his YouTube channel, with a cautionary note about the risks when using mods or playing multiplayer.

I've been working on a Performance & Settings Guide for nearly a year now, combining both my own original research and verified information I've gathered from various DCS Discord servers. Click To Read The Guide Did You Know: - You can reduce DCS World's disk usage by over 100GB with no performance hit? - You can pass through your HOTAS and keyboard into your VR cockpit, even on headsets as old as the HP Reverb G2? - You can set up separate graphics profiles and launch shortcuts for 2D and VR? - Running low on disk space can reduce game performance? - Enabling DOCP/EOCP can increase CPU performance by over 10%? - Setting preload radius too high OR too low can cause problems? - Raising LOD Switch Factor can make ships look better? - Resizing your kneeboard pages to fit your display can improve performance? - The AMD User Experience Program is incredibly cursed I make an effort to update this about once a month

cannot repoduce and missing track file Left MFCD Stuck Key
intruder11 replied to WarriorX's topic in Bugs and Problems
This is consistently reproducible by repeatedly pressing the OSBs with both left and right mouse together until it happens. Try holding the OSB for a few seconds each time. It can also be cleared the same way. -

For anyone else who was confused like me, the link for 0.81 at https://cam.em-key.de/download-2/ is also the download link for the current version of the mod.

I think it's related to locale settings (i.e. translations), DFLT being the default locale.

Hello, I've attempted Mission 4 a few times and even waiting before attacking the target the enemy SAMS always shot me down. I tried again but this time just spectated the AI and the seemed to be getting shot down without killing their targets. Is there something up with this mission?

fixed Mission 6 - No response to Taxi clearance
intruder11 replied to intruder11's topic in Bugs and Problems
Update: The mission works if the UHF radio is in manual mode and not preset mode -
In Mission 6, after Boar flight begins to taxi, Biff tells me to request clearance, the prompt appears to press space to request taxi clearance, nothing happens. I have a track file, not sure how to upload it
