If you want to stay off the beta then I would not advise the openXR runtime as this had some serious issues when released, that have been fixed in the beta, simply use SteamVR runtime set resolution around 65% and enjoy.

No need for any other Somnium software, just the VR1 Software itself, just ensure before you launch DCS, everything in the VR1 tool is setup as you wish. Have you installed the Beta 4 software and updated the firmware. ? Suggest you take some baby steps first to get used to things. Ensure openXR runtime is selected. You have the Visionary Edition so you do have ET that will allow you to use QuadViews and either FFR or DFR. The VR1 Resolution slider needs to be adjusted if you are going to take full advantage of ET. First try without ET and just set resolution slider to around 60% and see what framerate you are getting, need to try and match the freq of the headset so you're really looking to reach a stable 90 fps. Its important to dial setting down first and then slowly make an incremental step forward. If you have enabled QV in DCS you will need to alter the main resolution down to as low as 20% as you are probably running FFR set the Foveated settings 80 20 20 to start. Then try Eye Calibration to get DFR. There are a lot of things to adjust and understand to get the VR1 running at its best but that is the price we pay for such a cutting edge piece of hardware and something we all knew, but as the software has been enhanced the better the experience has become, you are joining us at a great time for DCS and VR, exciting times ahead.

SteamVR does not need to be launched or running when using openXR in DCS. Just ensure you have openXR runtime enabled and SteamVR disabled. The Beta is really to only option if you wish to run openXR. Goto Discord Somnium - Announcement to gain access to Beta 4 download, and updated firmware if you are interested in 72hz and 120hz alongside 90hz https://discord.com/channels/494994753146847233/1301858258902061056 Beta is currently due to complete by end of July.

Hi, I have been running OpenXR Beta 4.0 since release and I have not experienced the same issues that are present in the Stable release code. 90fps and 90hz. We are expecting the Beta to be concluded in July and the RC updated.
-
HI, welcome to the VR1 club, suggest you take a quick look at the thread here ref the Somnium VR1 or come over to the Somnium VR1 Discord site. I had my VR1 Titan since inital release in December, OpenXR support is working by default with VR1 Software, but you need to be aware that the current / original VR1 OpenXR driver has some issues, these problems were identified by the VR1 community immed on release and Somnium acknowledged these issues and have with their Beta program address 99% of our concerns. Currently very happy running 90fps at 90hz using Beta 4. Happy to help just post any questions you have.

sominum vr1 setup for DCS with eye tracking
evanswillo replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
If you are using Beta 4.0 there is a new option under the Eye Tracking section to toggle Lens Inserts On, may help, but I am also looking at how to best use ET. Using the VR1 ET Trail visualisation I can see my eyes are being tracked. All the updates to the software are having a positive impact on daily VR1 usage in DCS. -

Just been able to try Beta 4.0, DCS is looking good, Eye Calibration is working with prescription lens inserts now. Checking to see how ET performs. -

sominum vr1 setup for DCS with eye tracking
evanswillo replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
Hi, yes just trying out the inbuilt up scaling option as this should be fully integrated into the Beta Somnium runtime and in theory should provide better performance rather than using an up scaling option at the application level. I do think that the advances we have seen in DLSS4 however outweighs approach, its a shame that nvidea and amd will not include their latest up scaling tech in the SDK so hardware providers could integrate into the runtime. Yes steam is not part of the current beta. Hopefully next update will help more. -

I am lucky my PC is simply for DCS / MS2020 so I am more than happy to lay down a fresh install of windows when ever I feel a massive change has been made. So all my WMR stuff was gone and a fresh install of VR1 software and Steam applied. I would check your SteamVR OpenXR runtimes are correct and your Steam setting are not conflicting with the VR1 resolution options. Really comes down to your preference on frametime / fps some people are happy to go for a low fps longer frametime for better quality, for me at the moment with this beta I am looking to stabilize my frametime to ensure a solid 72fps 72hz 13.88 ms as DFR and FFR become available I should in theory be able to increase the resolution. I have seen a lot of people asking the VR1 to display a resolution was above what their rigs can maintain a decent fps at and run into crashes and difficulties For now the beta is still taking small step forward, lets see what come in the next weeks. -

I had the Reverb G2 before moving the the VR1, I was on the VR1 train from day 1. I found the VR1 tended to drop and tilt down with the stock head strap and the only solution was to tighten it well beyond comfortable. The BOBOVR M2 was a straight swap out for the default and the weight of the VR1 is countered by the Halo and some extra weight I have added. I will not altered the image with the VR1 UI until we get the openXR runtime fully integrated and using eye tracking. At the moment I am working through the beta trying the included upscaling as DLSS4 is still giving me some ghosting. -

As far as fit is concerned I have switched out the stock Head strap for the BOBOVR M2 Plus Head Strap and added some extra weight to balance the Headset. If this is under SteamVR 80% Render is good if you can maintain the fps, are you using DLSS 4 preset K, Quality or Balanced. Artur will always say the user will take time to adjust to the VR1 visuals. I take it you have no need for lens inserts. -
sominum vr1 setup for DCS with eye tracking
evanswillo replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
Welcome to the VR1 journey, the beta is only testing the openXR runtime function and will improve as features of the VR1 are added to the beta test. Prior to the beta program the original openXR had serious issues with multiple error messages and crashes, the beta is stable and locks the fps to the selected freq of the headset. The SteamVR runtime is a good starting point, I am surprised you are saying the VR1 image quality is lower than a reverb G2. May I ask what VR1 resolution you are running and what scaling you are trying. -

A setup guide was released alongside the Beta this week. Checkout the discord site VR1 announcements. But yes the VR1 openXR runtime would have been installed at time you first launched the UI, you can always go back to the Software tab and refresh in the VR1 UI. Let me know how you get on -

Hi the openXR runtime is going through a beta program at the moment the release version is not great for DCS at the moment, the beta is promising. Suggest you just use Steam to start off with, but that would not include DFR. SteamVR works fine, ensure you have disabled the OpenXR runtime in VR1 software and that SteamVR is up and running when you launch DCS. -
Congrats welcome to the team, lots of good stuff happening with development of OpenXR runtime and 72hz 90hz 120hz.

Thankyou updated and checked in DCS

Please does anyone have the details of preset K so I can update my CustomSettingNames file to test 310.2.1

Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NGXCore and right-click on the right-hand panel and create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value called ShowDlssIndicator. Set the value of this to 1024 in decimal. Beware I did notice the structure had changed when I did a fresh Nvidia, but it NGXCore is there this will work.

VIrpil Pedals - Unable to bind to brakes or rudder
evanswillo replied to i-scott's topic in VIRPIL Controls
When you move the pedal feet forward, the Slider box should move for left pedal and Dial for the right pedal. Are you sure you have completed the Virpil Configuration steps under Axis for these three items Zaxis Slider Axis and Dial Axis should all be blue In DCS mine are known as joy_slider1 / 2 -
Meta Quest 3 (512GB) OR Somnium Titan or Ultimate Edition
evanswillo replied to SnowTiger's topic in Virtual Reality
I have had my Somnium VR1 Titan since just before Christmas, as stated here it is an expensive option but if you are looking to fully dive into VR then its a price worth paying as visuals are simply best in class. As the software matures, we are expecting first major update this month, I cannot see anything on the market that will match it for the next couple of years and iterations of graphics cards. Happy to answer any other questions.
