Is Anti-Skid supposed to be On for Carrier Ops/Takeoff?
Wiggo replied to Snacko's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Carrier: No Anti-Skid. Its useless there, it does not work under 10kn, and if you move over ten kn on the deck, your in catapult going up or in cable or "bolting". Havent tried, but does pressin "stop" from bit page help for the skid notice. And if it wouldnt, so what. You can alway put it on in the air if its annoying. Checklists are just lists that with you dont brake the plane. It is possible even in IRL (not to mention dcs .. ) for airplane commander, to jump over list "stuff" in case of good reason. (more or less). For example gears dont lock down in airliner-> pilot gets checklist for hammering the gear down -> captain can tell him to jump over prechecks and go straight to actions, if doing not so would be dangerous for example. Pre-flight checklists can in somecases also be done by groundcrew. So this is kinda also question of how much does a DCS player want to roleplay. Does he go trough the list or just press windows+home for example. In Airfields: Many times forgot to put on on divert, gets sliperry... nice 360 slides on the ground though Maby we should put on drifitng contest with different planes, on some server! -
Why I´m getting only "restart" for RWR. SOMETIMES (dunno how I did it) got pbit go (it comes from "power bit on", in hornet the systems have "built in alltime testdata" that comes from most of the systems. So the "pbit go" just means the testprogram itself have not been separately runned, BUT the built in "alltime when power on data seems good to hornet->pbit go". So it just means the system, while the test has not been done, does not send any error data (like alarms etc..). But confused with that "restart". What does it actually mean. I always test rwr just like described in this topic (RWR on -> press rwr test button (most left one of rwr buttons), sometimes it gives pbit on, but USUALLY restart. Why restart? And what does that "restart the process" even mean? (manual says it means "restart the process".. :P) But yeah those who asked about pbit go. You can go with that with most systems. It ofc does not mean there is not ANY errors found, because when pbit go, test has not been run. (in dcs it kinda does, if not random errors on :P). Thats why i wonder also why rwr does not EVER give just "go" in dcs, even it can be easily tested. But more confusing is that restart. Maby it is some other test that gets rwr test "out from the loop" and something in the "process" has to be restarted to even get results from rwr. Is it just dcs? Or I´m i really doing something wrong? Sometimes when I dear to push the auto button, and wait LONG it and AFTER that when i test rwr i get one time pbit go. but if i dear to test it again "restart". I think it is something in the order of tests, or that i start something from bit page that i stop too early or something. Still it is confusing why the rwr test is so weird, as it should be kinda the easiest one with own bit button etc, and easy when read from manual but.. Could it have something to do with alignments? Or some other EW tests? (that I get that restart). These are things that does not really matter, but when really want to put effort to do things right, easily get "stuck" in these..

DCS: F/A-18C THE SERPENT'S HEAD 2 CAMPAIGN
Wiggo replied to Badger633's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
What does that "simplified refueling" mean in practic? More fuel in planes? No wake turbulence? No refueling at all? I´m kinda bad tanker, but it goes. Hav now flown 4 missions, and wondered after msn 3 refueling taking about 2 hours for me ( :D), that if I restart that how much does that differ if chosen that simplified vrsn? -
Super! Dont need to excuse launguage there, I think it is very good choise! And even still, it is language of Russia neighbour country! Midnight Hawks, a Finnish Hawk Flight Crew that the speech tells about is something you should btw check IRL(just usual stuff about crewitself, Actually I could translate it here for you (and others) to read if you want to, just when I get back to my dcs computer..It could be fun. And also interesting. Speaker really tells about Hawk crew.) i. They have been ranked globally kinda high I think. Some manouvers that they pull, was kinda "you cant do that with hawk?!"-stylish stuff. But yeah was very nice detail in mission, for Finnish ppl even with bonus. It is good choise, because it is straight from Hawk wings flight BTW, do you remember where it is from? Was it Helsinki Airshow? And thanks for very good campaign.
-
This isnt probelm. Vice versa. I was amazed, when flying mission 1 (on SH 2! Caucasus..) to the airshow-> "ok heres kobuleti airshow, we link to your radio our airshow speeches" -> from radio starts FINNISH (my homeland) language speech (in georgia? :D). Bet speech is IRL from Finnish Hawkcrew flying in Finnish airshow (dunno where). Is this just funny accident for me, or is language in that spot chosen by mission, by logbooks / players chosen "homeland"? Though: In Finland we have very skilled Hawk airshow crew so "The Midnight Hawks"... Niceone! Hawk is also FiAF´s training Jet. Is this campaing possibly made originally by a Finnish person or something? Im confused ;D Happy new year for everyone!

Ok. Sry bout that must be annouying. I did not have in any case flashing on the deck / ground (knocking the wood...), but somehow mysteriously everytime over 43k ft from sea lvl altitude It seems in mission editor etc that dcs is loading something differently now from very beginning. My memory usage has also gone littlebit down (system memory / RAM). Maby it had something to do with graphics trough msaa. Have you tried without any filters? is that always like that in every setting? (just for interest.. )

Hi. I got for present a steam account code gift card. I have NEVER installed any dcs, or its content trough DCS. Using DCS Open-beta standalone version. (latest always). IF I buy DCS DLC (mods maps etc) from Steam, CAN I use them with standalone open-beta, etc standalone DCS version?
-
Now it works! No more high alt flickering as i used to have ALWAYS over 43kft

I have seen this idea some times now, though with other planes. There is onekind of logic there, as we see in RARE cases of rocket staging, where outer tanks are used first and then weight/drag is dropped of as it goes on. Theoretically it makes sense if one wants to keep certain speed x, and max the range->but (in this exmpl) you can / will throttle off and keep the same speed. IRL dunno how much this is used, in airplanes itself. What I do know that it is true that tanks are not dropped, if not mission designed so, or close contact / emergency. Other point is to drain fuels first from certain points of plane (or dropping tanks..) , is making wings etc to get your point of gravity go where you want. In hornet i could assume, that a pilot would like it more center, while f-18 (C atleast) wings are kinda light / thin (one could assume, that normally the point of gravity is kinda in center, at least in empy hornet). F-22 actually can "slosh/move" fuel around, like ballast, (ofc other planes also, but f-22 is very good example) so fcs can keep point of gravity, where it wants it (in f-22 MIT lecture, f-22 testpilot tells more about this, check youtube "MIT f-22 pilot flight school") It is one way for fcs to keep balance, for example after firing a weapon, and that way it (f-22 computer in this case) can also "trim" the plane. And ofc thats very usefull, you know how it is to FLY hornet after dropping 2000 pounds from one wing, it gets kinda wobbly, though one trims the plane go straight. And this is just the thing where that grav.point adjust of f-22 fcs helps. These were just couple examples that came to my mind while reading this thread.

cannot reproduce and missing track file Problem with IFA in INS
Wiggo replied to MivwTaupos's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thank you. Just wondered if ithats something that "matters" somehow. Seems that it just says WPNS -> DEGD (Waypoint-system (or smthng) degraded), means that it is not using normal waypoints. Prob found also in THAT mission also with cold start. But not in the others, so there just seems to be some weird´o´mob in that mission file. Its kinda old atleast... -
cannot reproduce and missing track file Problem with IFA in INS
Wiggo replied to MivwTaupos's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Dunno if this applies under this topic, but have also problem with IFA navigation, and seems that many ppl have asked this. while playing some premade missions, hot start on carrier (but not taxied, waiting for turn) knob is at start turned to IFA (when I start the mission). I get in bit page "WPNS->DEGD" (WPNS degraded). Then if I turn knob from IFA to CV and try to align it says "NO WPTNS" (No waypoints?) there is waypoints, and waypoints for what? I can totally play the mission, just trying to understand that SHOULD I do something for that, and what is really happening in there. Why no waypoints? why wpns degd? Is it just that there is no "normal" nav waypoints, and so the waypoint system is "degraded"? -
Hi. I have been playing about a year now with DCS. Have flown before only FC3 planes, but alot. Now training with hornet, and kinda everything is understood BUT confused with tacan trainining. In training first it makes you choose channel 2 on radio (why this?,how do I know which is the ADF channel?). Then it leaves ADF + channel 2 on and makes you do tacan stuff. OK i get it perfectly right on that tutorial. BUT when flying later trainers and trying to get to airfield , do i have to set the radio in someway if using ONLY tacan? I cant get it on, in later trainers (think it was the JDAM trainer). Everything else seems to go about right after one week of tutorials. Nice plane, but huge jump from Eagle and Flanker. But nice one. Especially as Finnish. But please help. I have looked youtube videos, everything, and just cant find tutorial that i can get tacan working with. So do I need somekind of special radio channel for tacan, and if so, which one, and why that one? etc.. I even dont get the tacan graphics to HSI before (the tacan merry go around graphics , in hsi before setting tacan code, that goes over the compass graphics). What am I doing wrong? So with tacan, how should the radio be set? or does it even matter? Trainer is very confusing, because it just tells "just choose this channel" etc + press this button, but in a way i just dont cant apply on other situations. (too much "just press this and dont ask why.. " It could be great if somebody that makes alot of DCS content in youtube, would make a video where training the noob like me. Usually the biggest ? marks does not come while plaiyng trainers, answers are usually in noobs questions.. I really liked Drewskis and Ralhpieguys SU-25t video, where they trained Drewski together. I learned from that one video more about sead with su-25t than with any tutorial in the game. I just mean those kind of videos would be good, just for pointer to youtubers.. (if you want you can train me ;D)

Is the latest version still that same dropbox link? Nice modeling @cubanace in page 1. BTW Is that Catia or SolidW? I am Naval architechture engineer myself, and use both of ´em. more or less alot, as now i work besides naval engines. (catia ofc more when CAM is "near"..)

Goddam you @Eagle Dynamics I came from nightsift from work, started just DCS, wondered wow what does this load for this single player mission, that i have played and loaded many times, "is my computer broken" "is my dcs install broken". Restarted computer, "maby just sata driver crashed or something, for big uptime in windows 10". Then again, "ok it still loads long, well i will just play, maby some new stuff with update at kutaisi airport. Then rolling with raptor to runway, with weird chaotic sound in background "is my mod enchancement sound files broken?", then noticed the "lights" when rolling to runway. And LMAO. Happy Halloween!

Hi. Done this also many times, and have wondered does this effect in DCS somehow, and what does it actually even do ? (Why all those warnings about editing the file? Undestand ofc that ED wants to put note there that it isn´t their way of doing that "something", but is it just about that or does it really effect somehow in the "original" DCS plainyg?). Ofc I always make backup from original files in editing like this one..

True dat! When i play DCS, i have dcs total control over NCP. (software decides everything). At some point I still used FXAA + SSAA, but it got clouds messy and it started to look so terrbiel at some points, i turned to dcs full control of GPU and dcs msaa x4. Newer cards seem to have A LOT bigger list of "stuff" in NCP. Wonder what all those even do I work a lot with cad softwares etc 3d modeling (mechanical engineering) and with those, we usually use those NCP filters, cause usually CAD softwares themselves dont have much of em.

For me actually also open beta worked, when just deleted options.lua ... DCS loaded at start for a while, but now it works again. I got my options.lua somehow totally messed up, after adding line for Tacview to save files to anohter folder->DCS halted at startup, black screen->viewed options.lua, only login settings were there anymore. I tried this and it worked. DCS created new file. Are control settings in different file? Somehow they survived, while every other settings reseted. (im kinda new to dcs so.. )

Yes I have done everything, believe me Got it! It is game settings MSAA, when turned off no blinking at high alts (over 43 000 ft). Have not yet tried, that will my NV control panels own msaa, or other filters cause the same problem. Still going to use MSAA of game settings. Rarely cross 43k ft Game settings own MSAA seems to be the best solution for older GPU´s, or at least for me. (besides that back screen blinking... ) Thanks for help! And I have replied this with game settings many times, and result is same. MSAA x2 or x4 => screen blinking over 43k ft. MSAA of => no problems. (GTX 960, 4gb, Intel i5 Haswell 4960k, Asus z97-p, 16 gb ddr3, game installed in sata ported ssd..)
-
Got it! It is MSAA that causes the black screen blinking , at high altitudes (in game setttings!)!I normally let DCS decide of everything (Nvidia GTX 960, 4gb, yes it is old but hey 30fps still! Actually latest update seems to have given me +1-2fps!) I only use MSAA x4, but not other filters (in game settings, and not in nvidia Contr.Panel. settings). I had this blank black screen blinking / flickering problem ALWAYS after 43 000 ft (dunno why 43000 but that it is (sea level). But when i turn MSAA off, it stops. The problem seems to be in MSAA. I´m pretty sure about this. Have not yet tried that does that problem reply with NVIDIA´s own multisample filters etc, but I will try. Still using normally games own MSAAx4, cause its seems to be best power/graphics solution for older GPU´s.. Others. uh. 19 fps at low. no thanks. Without msaa -> like i´m playing DCS in 2007 But HOX ED! this MSAA seems to be the prob, that replies the problem at high altitudes (and I bet also in other flickering probs..).

Yup. Seems so. Same thing with flickering / bilnking black screen bug. I can trigger it any time on high altitudes, and / or totally random triggers.. I have tried to even ask, could they please just tell if that is viral bug under investigation, but no answer. First threads that i found about "black boxes and full screen black screen "blinking / flickering", with fast search, was from ~2.5
-
I have samekind of "black box" issue, but I use normal screen. Screen starts to "blink" with black box, covering whole screen. I can repeat the issue with every plane, anywhere on the caucasus map (havent tried on marianas, but i bet it comes there too) - ALWAYS at going 43 000 ft or over. Sometimes it blinks every now and then (at high altitudes only!) and sometimes blinking is more constant and faster. Can you guys try flying over 43 000ft, what happens to you? (Mean you guys on this thread, that are having this same kind of flickering issue... ) I have not found any other way to trigger this "blinking / "flickering", but as I said, i ALWAYS get it at high alts (and mystically exactly in 43 000 ft). Don´t have noticed any difference on subject, with different graphic settings. Blinking just variates randomly if changing settins (or so it seems, or at least so random, that i can´t locate any setting or solution, to make notable differnce) There are A LOT of threads, and they all seem to be kind of same problem, but with different triggers between users. @Eagle Dynamicsthere are millions of threads about this same thing. Has there been any solution, or have you found same problem? I mean if: could you just please tell, is this a viral bug already under your research, so that ppl dont mess around my whole DCS for nothing High altitudes could indicate something with memories (GPU or CPU or both / sync)...? Have Nvidia GPU (4gb) and Intel CPU with 16gb ddr3, DCS on SSD. (seems that brand of GPU does not matter when reading ppls comments about topic), in forums. Thanks you. With best regards - Lasse, Finland.

Yes, i know Well that folder thing did not work whatsoever. I noticed that this has been problem for many ppl, many videos on youtube, since 2.5 and still no really solution for it. Great. I Think it might be some old shader or something.. Some ppl have same problem only with mirrors on (on youtube, and ED forums), some while flying over water, but always at high alts. Goddam I need new GPU. Maby I´ll try one more time without copying ANYTHING from old folder. (though i did not copy anything besides mods, and control setup). Weird also that for different ppl different things have helped with that. Some deleting metashaders, some this save folder "remake" etc etc.. Have ED said anything about this..? And @silverdevil still thanks for advice Ps. My card is NVidia GTX 960 4gb... (old, but fast for old.)
-
I have very same problem since July or something like that. At ~45 000 feets whole screen starts to "blink". Sometimes if I just keep flying with that blinking (black flashes..) it even gives blue screen on windows, sometimes. I have tested at every setting, and no change. I wonder is it something with loading terrain to memory / retrieving stuff from memory? My computer is kinda old, but I have 4gb of GPU memory and 16gb DDR3, (i5 haswell 4960k, 3,5ghz / 1600mhz (mem)). GPU is NVIDIA GTX 960 4gb. DCS runs on "high" settings + flat shadows + 4x msaa = ~25-30 fps (yes crappy but enough for me this time). Still same problem yesterday at my friends computer, he plays CSS as professional, and even with his powerpacked gaming pc, same blinkig starts at very same altitudes. Has somebody ANY way to make this, if not go away, but better... ? Has anyone yet any clue, wtf is this? EDIT: trying that folder renaming, i will report if it works. Still, it would be very interesting to know what causes this. My friend tried that, and even finally copied WHOLE old directory, overwriting the new one DCS made. And still the problem is away. Is there somekind of file that dcs update/at updating dcs software needs to create, that is not on the old directory, and which is not created by updater if folder exists? Seems something like this, because i cant explain why problem stays away even after merging new folder totally with old one. Weird. And thanks.
-
I have same kind of a problem, at high altitudes my screen starts to "Flick", though not yellow.. It just "blinks", but looks very much same. Same problem with every aircraft, no matter where i´m looking for..
