They lowered the brightness with the last patch. Thank you, ED!

Alright, is it just me, or is head tracking twitchier in the F-16 vs the Hornet. Because it kinda seemed like it was. And yes, I checked the control settings and I'm pretty sure I only made changes in OpenTrack, not in DCS.

On MP Server Do You Get Launch Warnings?
SickSidewinder9 replied to Paladin1cd's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I really like how the Patriot battery radar is detected and disappears rhythmically causing a regular beep until you are out of range. Not annoying at all. (this happens in the Hornet too). Otherwise, MT has been great. No problems. Super stable. Increased my preload radius and no drop in performance. -
cool

It can only be a steerpoint that's sent, not the SPI? I thought it sent the SPI.

Is there a version pre-edited to the redfor planes are, well, redfor planes? Also, any plans to add Overlord bot to your servers? I tried it and it's pretty cool. When it works, idk. Also, did you add Skynet IADS?

Is waypoint offset for navigation possible?
SickSidewinder9 replied to bones1014's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
The short answer is yes. It's done in the DED. -
Keep the bandit in a crank. As you close past max range, snap role so you're upside down and nose on to the bandit, and while inverted fire your fox 3. You can even fire while you're nose is still above to horizon to give it some loft. Split S and chaff and go back the way you came keeping the radar contact in the crank for a bit if you can. 100% of the time this works at least half the time. The AI is often dumb and doesn't react till too late, even though if you saw that on a radar, you'd know you'd been shot at. The split S pulls the incoming missile into denser air then going 90 degrees to it hard further bleeds its energy away as it tries to plot an intercept. If it is still tracking you, keep doing descending 90 degree hard turns while chaffing. This works well at low altitude against SAM's too. Basically flying a big, fast rectangle. Try to keep the missile turning 180 degrees and in dense air. This maneuvering should help you shoot successfully while evading what may be shot at you. Look up cranking and notching videos on YouTube. Grim Reapers do a good cranking one. Remember in the case of active radar missiles, you may have already started maneuvering too late when you get the warning. That is why you should immediately be evading and chaffing after firing your own. Now, if someone could tell me how to evade the Russian Fox-2's >:[

I also noticed that even with all the new sounds, the Hornet RWR is much more bearable. Something with the F-16 RWR is much louder, and the buttons much brighter. Or maybe I'm turning it down there too, and not really doing a scientific test. And did we mention the Griswold Yard Decorations that are the new buttons? Surprised they don't make the power go out in the rest of the neighborhood. Like that.

You guys are killing me with the crosswinds. The takeoff or rollout in an F-16 is hard. Viper is like 10,000lbs lighter than a Hornet so it really gets blown around.

I'm finding I can't do much before getting surrounded by enemy fighters and blown out of the sky. Is there a way to reduce this difficulty? It's just me in singleplayer. Do enemy fighter counts go down as mission progresses and they get shot down? Also, and maybe this is because of all the enemy fighters, the tankers seem to be in a rather useless place. If I have to practically be back at Incirlik to tank, I'm just going to land at Incirlink. Am I doing something wrong? Am I still playing an old verion?

Literally just changed from open to priority, which used to do alright for me, I think. Video doesn't even cover that.
-
Yeah, the Christmas tree of lights are a bit much. I like the different tones and all, but a busy mission makes the thing go absolutely nuts, so I often set it to priority. Well, last time I did that, it did not end well: Have targets, nothing on rwr. In range for tws lock, still nothing on rwr. Figure it must be a pair of mig-21s. Ok, easy prey and then on with strike mission without having to jettison stores. All of a sudden, they are 29 spikes and I'm being fired on. That doesn't seem right.

Pulling too much AoA during dogfight
SickSidewinder9 replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I think you're right. Even though the Fulcrum is twin engined and twin tailed, it's closest Western analogue is probably an early model F-16. -
Pulling too much AoA during dogfight
SickSidewinder9 replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Against a hornet (at least when I did some experimenting with the ai before the big ai update) the Viper has the speed advantage and thrust to weight advantage. Meaning, if you take the Hornet vertical, you can get a kill shot. No idea on the Mirage. Do not go vertical against a Flanker. Absolutely not. No. u r ded. -
fixed [REPORTED]F/A-18 Aircraft Weight now bugged?
SickSidewinder9 replied to VFA41_Hedgehog's topic in Bugs and Problems
Bump because has this ever been fixed? I was Googling max landing weight and also found this thread and was subsequently unable to find anything stating if it had been fixed. -
The more I think about it, the more I know I'm gonna wind up giving it a serious try.
-
The hook on Airforce fighters is for emergencies such as brake failure. The system of cables would be at the end of the runway, and any "trap" would be at low speed and zero AoA and 0 fpm. Or were you already aware of this?

Might have to try that with the F-5. That thing is hard to kill when you're out of missiles. -
Lower volume of beeping things by default, please
SickSidewinder9 replied to SickSidewinder9's topic in Wish List
Some things need to be heard, though. Like lock tones. And it's nice to hear wind and jet noise. I'm just asking for things not to be extra by default, which is already the case in other ED modules. -

SickSidewinder9 replied to SickSidewinder9's topic in Wish List
what about the other sound effects? And why can't we just not have everything set to scream at you be default? -

Doesn't that lower everything? I think I did, anyway. And I have "hear like in helmet" checked. -
Pulling too much AoA during dogfight
SickSidewinder9 replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Keeping speed up is key. So is not pulling all the G's all at once. But yeah, DCS does seem to default to blacking out after 8.5 no matter what. IRL, the pilot training and ergonomics (the leaned back seat) might help with this, but idk. I think even most well trained and experience pilots get their asses kicked by a steady 9G. That is brutal. I thought he mentioned some kind of eye tracker. Actually, he may not have and I may have asked on YouTube, and I'll see if he replied. EDIT: nope, no idea -
The Hornet defaults to Tacan volume off, would ne nice if the Viper did too. And the ILS down/almost off. And with all the new RWR tones, omg. Default the volume to be a little lower, PLEASE. Busy maps make it go nuts. TIA
