Pulling too much AoA during dogfight

If you glance back at the HUD, you can use the AoA indexer next to it. Donut good, up arrow pointing down bad. -
If you are using the HTS, make sure you see at most PGM3 if you want the missile to fly anywhere near the target. It's in the upper right corner of the HAD display. It's not a laser/gps guided munition. In the real world, where the crew turns radars on and off, they can actually be quite useless. It will also most likely just miss if you fire at PGM 4 or 5. The HARM is really quite a sloppy weapon, and this is reflected in game.

You also want to take up some slack in the hose. Don't just stop once you make contact at the end of the hose.

ECM buttons -- push one or push all?
SickSidewinder9 replied to TheBigTatanka's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Jamming and radio wave simulation aren't that complex in DCS. For starters, a lot of that stuff is probably classified. Just press 1 through 6. -
No, he means that after you select your steerpoint, if you want to make sure to aim you TGP on it, select it as SOI and press TMS down once or twice. You may also be able to hit the OSB button next to CZ.

We can have any color we want as long as it's dark gray. If we get the AK tail, I'll be so happy. Don't forget that the side of the vertical tails has the AK state flag with the Big Dipper and Polaris.

I've never noticed.

I have no meatspace experience with night vision, but logically, it would seem that yes, if there are light reflections on the water, they should show up in your NVG's. Moon, bioluminescence, artificial lights, etc. No idea about stars though. Do they reflect on water much at night?
-
We don't even have an accurate star map of any kind yet. Which is really sad since OFP that (and things like commanding the ai to attach a particular target) in 2001. I also find NVG's and night flying to be almost completely useless and not a very good experience at all in DCS, which is a shame because I know what an important part it is for real combat flying.

Pretty sure we should be able to set impact/delivery azimuth too.

Would love to see some more USAF Have Glass skins. I read somewhere that they are all getting it now.

insufficent real world evidence Is double GBU-32 possible on rack?
SickSidewinder9 replied to raelias's topic in Wish List
Ok, but dual carriage of GBU-32s. Come on, just do it. Is there so much documentation of dual carriage of JSOWs? 8 of them?! -
Oh god, this needs to happen. Environment and static world object effects are seriously lacking.

Make pilot model transparent around the game cursor
SickSidewinder9 replied to Rapierarch's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Some transparency on the pilot body would be nice. Otherwise, most people seem to be flying with it off, which means devs are wasting their time on pilot modeling.- 37 replies

Looking forward to hearing "beer cans down and locked" when at the catapult. -
cannot reproduce Why don't I get datalink?
SickSidewinder9 replied to Exorcet's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
That's a new one for me. OP, look on HSD, does it sat XMT off? That is what it defaults to. Press the OSB next to it once and it should say XMIT L16. Or are you not even receiving anything? That's weird. MIDS is switch on? -
correct as is The probe passes through the basket.

Works a lot better when you tell the tanker you're ready for precontact- 1 reply

Wasn't quite sure what section to put this in, or even which object the problem actually lies with, so I apologize in advance in I got the forum section wrong. What I'm noticing is that the basket of the tanker does not necessarily catch the probe of the Hornet and connect up. I'll have to test again with the A4 to see if it's a Hornet problem or an AI Aircraft problem. The KC-130 seems particularly bad about this. Playing just now, I twice passed the probe THROUGH the basket while just slightly off center. My impress is that due to the shape and physics and stuff, that would center it up and connect it. It does it on the Viking, but maybe not as much, which is odd, because you'd think there'd be a ctrl+C and ctrl+V somewhere between the two, but I guess not. Haven't tested the 135 yet. So while the jet wake is less tricky with the C-130, getting the hose to connect seems much more strict (harder even than real life) compared to the S-3 which has more wake turbulence, but somehow a more forgiving basket? My guess would be IRL, if you hit almost anywhere but the outer edge of the basket and pushed forward not too hard, the shape of the thing would force it to center up and connect. I appreciate the need to make it a little easier on us and not make colliding with the basket too easy, but the sweet spot too connect seems way too small. I'm very frustrated. TIA.

I think so. And this is with the S-3 which, as others have mentioned, is a bit tricky. Had some better luck with some more practice. Jumping forward with purpose seems to help. What's hard is that there's very little verbal instruction or info from the tanker. If they're pattern is anything other than Orbit, they will just start turning or straighten out without any warning, which also seems to come with a slight change in speed. And for those saying it's the controller: it's not. I did AAR in the Viper with a 3d Pro. Some setup like dead zones and curves and getting used to it might be required, but I wouldn't say upgrading to an X56 made much, if any, difference. (Now comes all the people who <profanity> on the X56. We get it. It's not worth the MSRP. Good thing I didn't pay it. It's fine. It works fine. Bigger difference was probably change in monitor) Anyway, in America we say "a poor carpenter blames their tools." It's not your controller.
