I was comenting Rudel's post about the 2600K. 9600K is faster right now but it might not matter with Vulkan and at savings on top (6 physical threads VS 12 logical ones). IMHO choosing a CPU for the next 4-5 years based on the current game engine state knowing Vulkan is coming is a mistake, though I respect your opinion. This is not a straightforward choice.
-
... not to mention you got more threads to fool around when Vulkan comes. Buying for single thread perf right now is a huge mistake taking in consideration that r5's will already play nice as is , and at considerable savings.
-
the 2600 would achieve the same perf as my 1700X. And thats 170$ with the boards going for another 60$. benchmark results vary from game to game, so you cannot gauge the CPU potential in DCS by using a particular synthetic benchmark as an isolated example. You have to test it in-game. Fortunately I did: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=185226&page=11

Edited last post, I have a thread about this You cannot compare clocks on totally different cpu architecture. Mine went to 3.8 GHz but not that it matters anyway.
-
Where did you pull those figures from? I made the switch from a 2500k to an R7 1700x and it was faster with the same gtx970, 4.5ghz vs 3.8 GHz. About 14% faster. Also AMD is cheaper so you can invest on a better gpu. So the benifit is two fold. When I replaced the gfx to a 1080ti I got another 68% increase, bear that in mind.
-
If you can wait until June, you can get one of the new Ryzen 3000 series cpu that will be on par with Intel on single core but have more of them and for cheaper. The choice will be a no Brainerd then.

Radeon VII, what do you guys think ?
Pilotasso replied to BitMaster's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
great card, but needs mature drivers to really show its stuff. Its meant for 1440P or 4K. In 4K arena looks great against a 2080 and a cheaper (but less powerful) alternative to 2080Ti thanks to that impressive 16Gb HBM2 memory. Stay away from it at 1080P. There are cheaper alternatives with more consistent performance. EDIT: wait for partner cards. Less noise and better drivers by then. -
Can you run DCS maxed out? Do you have stuttering? The answer to these questions will determine your actual need to upgrade.

nvidia 417.71 display driver WHQL

Odd, G-sync stays on in the menu, I tested with NVIDIA's pendulum demo multiple times and there's no tearing. -

here: icJnTUAaB9Y I tested this with my new Gigabyte Monitor and works without a glitch. -
Have tested freesync on my 1080Ti with the Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD monitor and it has been smooth sailing. :)
-
I play other games as well. I'm setting up the monitor as we speak.
-
they will likely see freesync 1 support as it is an universal interface (i.e. no proprietary chip inside the monitor)
-
FS2 is specifically tied to AMD GPU's as G-sync is to NVIDIA's. Only freesync 1 is universal now.

New Z390 Build Upcoming - finally!

thats a killer system there. -
So I decided to buy a new high refresh rate monitor. My current unit (see below) has GREAT color reproduction (used to be for photo productivity) but 60Hz feels its not enough anymore. My eyes. My current monitor is a second hand ASUS PB278Q IPS QHD (1440P) 60Hz from 2014. Now that both AMD and NVIDIA cards can use adaptive Sync (Freesync and not Freesync2 nor G-sync since those are tied to each respective GFX brand) with 144Hz refresh rate, low frame rate compensation, with great color is where I want to go, so I came up with this at the local stores: Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD IPS 27" QHD 16:9 144Hz FreeSync 1MS response There are better monitors with true HDR out there but they are either G-sync or Freesync2 that locks my future upgrades to either AMD or NVIDIA and I want to have some flexibility in choosing between the 2, so I decided to compromise with fake HDR and freesync1. BTW Pixio PX277h is not sold here. They have an equivalent panel but without the RGB bling for 100$ less but thats not an option to me soo... what do you think? aBYCAsDNFq8 AKCaVtn3tRs

Surprised there are no threads on AMDs Zen...
Pilotasso replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I got a 14% bump in FPS when I changed the CPU from 2500K to 1700X with a 970GTX and then got 68% improvement when my current 1080Ti was installed. I had a thread with screenshots, one of them is below. Original thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=185226&page=6 -

AMD used to suck but not anymore, their current processors are competitive and they run DCS great, next gen will perhaps top the benchmark charts, anyone with an AMD board can make this upgrade cheaply. Also from my testing DCS is no longer a single core affair, the GPU matters more on any modern decent CPU. -

last weeks AMD announcement was on the server side. Of course thats good news because eventually it will trickle down to consumer chips but we dont know any concrete data on it. yeah Intel is in deep trouble. Waiting for news with anticipation (intend to change CPU next year). -
Question on a new build I am doing
Pilotasso replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
you wont notice a difference unless your doing heavy video editing for hours. -
Upgrading from Intel 3930K to 9900K. Worth it?
