No only it loads things faster but it stops FPS dips due to stuttering and that is a huge advantage.

Nvidia Slowly Becoming a Monopoly?Pilotasso replied to Nooch's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software AMD will be stuck in the mid range with their polaris cards for years. We have more rumors of 7nm versions now. I wanted one large AMD GPU for my red build but I was forced to opt NVIDIA.

I have to agree with knock. Having a 1080Ti and looking at closest priced 20 series card you get ZERO performance gains on average for 100€ more in exchange for promised tech for future games. Which in light of the time frame of new graphics launches makes switching right now a nonsensical decision. DLSS? sure is cool. Ill wait until then to buy a new card, but that will be either a 3080Ti or a 4080Ti. The 20 series are built on a half node that is sun-setting (12nm from 16nm). So expect a short timeframe for the 30 series and a new node (8nm).

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software I'm not saying the cards are garbage. Ray tracing is experimental tech and the silicon is way too expensive for this generation. We used to get the new cards for the same price as the old ones. They are 50% faster than a 1080ti but also 50% more expensive , potentially will be replaced by cheaper and much faster cards on 7nm next year, therefore value is very low. Hence my conclusion that you'd be better off skippingthe 20 series if you have a high end 10 series.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software Ray tracing is GPU intensive, and wont run well above 1080p. With these graphics cards costing around 1000$ and up, I dont see the point of having it and then run at that resolution when using ray tracing as the purpose of these cards is to run 4K otherwise.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software the 2000 series are on transitional 12nm node, already peaked, and it will be short lived one. Next year gen with be 7nm it will feature double the cores and higher clocks. Ray tracing is a no go for first gen, so I cant regret to have smartly skiped this launch. ;)

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software My 1080ti scores 10000 almost exactly (by excess). I'm using stock settings. So between it and the 2080 FE there is Zero improvement with current status of drivers and games.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software Don't get your hopes too high. Looking at the specs I'm not convinced.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software RTX is on 12 nm but this lithography it will be superseded by 7nm next year so theres alot of speculation that NVIDIA might do a refresh of turing architecture with 7nm in 2019. That might enable more cuda cores and clocks at the same time.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software the 7nm cards will be the interesting ones. They will be able to squeeze alot more cores and crank up the clocks at the same time.

Live kick off nvidia 20xx cardsPilotasso replied to boedha68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software No competition from AMD does this, the same way Intel kept pushing quad cores as their flagships for 12 years until AMD released Ryzen.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software AMD's new cards won't be competing with NVIDIA's at the high end no matter how much clocks they increase from the 7nm process, because it's not a big die GPU and because it's same architecture as previous generation (they are VEGA, and not NAVI) . They are behind at the moment and that won't change until NAVI comes later, an this one we don't even know what it is exactly.

Another hidden pearl as someone mentioned before would be to use ray tracing for calculation of radar returns as the same laws of physics apply. That would be unprecedented. But I'm not optimistic that it can be done within a year.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software they'll do that as long as AMD cannot offer competition. Vega 20 in 7nm early next might still be another midrange product like the RX580 is today.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software Architecture differences between a 1080ti and a 2000 series card makes it difficult to compare cores or speeds directly. We simply need benchmarks.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?Pilotasso replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software Ray tracing basically is a new functionality aspect that allows GPU's to calculate light reflections on objects in real time that gives graphics near photo realism, quite literally. This requires games to be specifically to be written for it so expect some time before this tech is widespread. May take years. That being said I also expect the new cards to be faster in today's games. We dont know how much yet. There are alot of conflicting rumors.

Just a note for those wondering to get either a 8C/8T I7 9700K or the 8700K 6C/12T, dont bother waiting and get the latter. they are both cofee lake arch and the difference in gaming is frankly negligible and thats due to games engines not being well optimized for logical threads. The interesting chip is the 8C/16T I9 9900K part. So if your not going to get that one you should get any of the 8 series right now.

Does Hyperthreading reduce DCS performance?Pilotasso replied to jetsimace's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software try running a dogfight over downtown Nellis, and whatch that CPU usage. benchmarking grass and trees is not a challenge. ;)

A bit too costly for pure gaming, only worth getting if you want to get multi GPU one day (when it finally is enabled in API's), and its a bit too soon for 16c/32T yet. if you really want similar core counts on the gaming desktop without paying near 1000$ price tag for the CPU alone I suggest waiting 6 more months for AMD's 7nm CPU's, although I think 8c/16t threads is already on the bleeding edge right now regarding gaming. Intel will be offering a faster CPU next October albeit for a predictably higher price.

There's more to it than range. More important than that is target descrimination. You can't fire a missile without knowing what those blips are. This capability is not directly proportional to range or power output. This affects tactics planning. If the radar picks up a contact at 400km but only determines the nature of the target at 30 the pilots will be scrambling their attention into an imminent merge. If the radar has half that range but sorts the contacts at 90km they have the advantage as this allows first shot. There is a debrief of a red flag where the mki's radar was more like the former example given and they had a few fracticide kills. I expect that was a limitation of being an export radar, as countries keep certain capabilities for themselves and sell off downgraded equipment for export (this is the norm for arms sales) , but this serves just an example. Regarding the topic, the Eagle-x is just on paper. There are no formal proposals just nice intentions and we do not have definitive specs. Right now the su-35 fleet is a silver bullet force. The opposition silver bullet force is... The F-22, not the f-15 in any variant.

Looking for some help with building a PC for DCSPilotasso replied to Brisky's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software The speed of different components cannot be compared. It's a question of reading enough reviews that the best cpu+gpu matchmaking will reveal itself. Sometimes memory speed comes in that equation but is less important (no matter what speed you choose always consult the manufacturer qualified vendor list to make sure the memory kits are compatible) . Any ssd will give you enough speed, it's a question of picking the best deal and warranty.
