It was confirmed recently in the forums that the new fog and also dust smoke effects are to be expected in one of the future patches. I think it was previewed as well in one of the recent videos published in Wags' channel.

DCS Update | Kola Development Report | Pimax Crystal Light
Gierasimov replied to Graphics's topic in Official Newsletters
I absolutely agree on all points made. It takes a while to realize that the products degraded in quality for a hardcore fan that I always consider myself as, however it sinks into my veins and I see better now. No longer blindly accept what's given. It seems that the biggest attention is on 3D art for the aircraft and some of the new ground units however there is more and more visible distinction in ground environment quality. Caucasus looks almost better than Kola in certain situations even beats it. Bigger maps? No if quality goes down, I am truly dissatisfied with Kola visual fidelity. -
OK, not a problem. For sure the category is not UFC, most likely it is HUD Control Panel and it is AOA Indexer Control Knob. What I make out of your description is that you either confused it with the trimmer switched or in fact by using the little wheel on your Warthog Hornet grip to control indexer brightness you were pulling / pushing stick a bit. It is hard to understand the cause of the issue for you now that it is gone. Anyways, by practicing and learning you will for sure achieve your goals. Happy flying.

Also, I am genuinely curious, where is that: "instruction in controls for "AOA up" and "AOA down"
-
Hi David, AOA is not controlled via the knob in the cockpit (buttons assigned). It is to change the brightness of the AOA indexer but not actual angle of attack as this is the outcome of aircraft pitch. so from your question it is 2 and no this does not affect AOA (3). Thanks, Luke

DCS: Roadmap (unofficial - NO DISCUSSION HERE)
Gierasimov replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS 2.9
In the Ru part of the forum there are some hints about changes that are being considered, Heatblur Forrestal with DCS deck crew is a possibility. Plans to rework almost all effects. (Question about SC module steam effect) Kuznetsov deck crew is not yet in plans. All answers by Chizh (ED team) On 10/4/2024 at 11:01 AM, MicroShket said: 1. Are there any plans to improve the effects of steam bleed from catapults? Yes, we have plans to rework almost all effects. But it is not a quick matter. On 10/4/2024 at 11:01 AM, MicroShket said: 2.Have Heatblur discussed with Eagle Dynamics the addition of Forrestal-class aircraft carriers to the Supercarrier module? Heatblur had such plans back in 2021, and this would allow the introduction of deck crew on Forrestal. Last summer, they also confirmed their intention to contact Eagle Dynamics on this issue. But have any steps been taken?.. I think it will be possible when we finish the development of deck personnel. There are a lot of rakes there.

So I asked in the other thread to post some screens of high detail, low level, summer DCS Kola and Boosterdog was kind to post it, but oh my goodness, how big is the difference between what Orbx is showing on their website versus what is in the sim. I really wanted this terrain to shift from Syria and get this campaign from Baltic / Reflected but now I doubt I will spend money on the map that looks like a fraud. Now, people will say: "it is in EA" yes it is, but if the detail was there for the marketing shots and was pulled from the product (most likely due to performance) then t will not come back. Just like the "newest tech" was implemented in DCS Afghanistan, it looks like this "quality" is going to be the new norm for now at least. Once we move to Vulkan and implement its rendering capabilities in DCS, perhaps we will see better visuals, until then though we will have to just suck it up as the new norm.

Would be winter treat if Fulcrum released in 2024 ! -
Thanks. I will dig into it.

Soldiers coming? Is DCS finally getting new boots on the ground then? I hope this includes AT infantry and JTAC -
Su-25T landing gear and brakes realism!
Gierasimov replied to Maverick Su-35S's topic in Su-25T (Free with DCS World)
There were some "mentions" last year that it is planned to update Su-25 to new standards. We will see, but I think it is far behind the quality of other contents of DCS World (free to play game). -
approximately: 3 months is In DCS language (if people were focused only on that), this usually means about 4 months - which translates to 6-12 months due to the resources scheduling... in short, TWO MORE WEEKSTM

It does seem to be trimmed down to what it used to be I think at least, I am getting better results - denser traffic in Adana than in Damascus as well, even on forced HIGH setting, but yes I do see cars and trains go from point A to point B.

Could be that it is disabled in that specific mission you started or in options. Works for me fine.

We'll see. Most of the projects in DCS are 1 man show maybe two, HB and ED maybe assign more engineers to any given project (I doubt) so it takes time, but what other game takes less these days? I think KC-30A (announced in 2023) and KA-6D (announced in 2021) will be delivered faster than in 5 years total. The new S-3 Viking by ED took almost 4 years, still less than 5

The one you are after is in the game by default.

Yeah, Sweden, Switzerland, hard to distinguish those two Scandinavian countries

OS DRIVE :\Users\ USERNAME \Saved Games\DCS\Liveries\FA-18C_hornet Example skin Swedish Air force (fictional skin) (digitalcombatsimulator.com) @Ghostmaker mind you this skin is LUA file does not contain the latest section that controls display of bort numbers, hence it will have bort numbers all over it. It looks like the creator of this skin did not update it for a while, but you could edit the description.lua and add this lines: {your path}\Saved Games\DCS\Liveries\FA-18C_hornet\Fictional Swedish Airforce Splinter\description.lua custom_args = { [0027] = 1, -- USN_MODEX_VERTICAL_STABILIZERS [1000] = 1, -- USN_MODEX_FLAPS [1001] = 1, -- USN_MODEX_NOSE [1002] = 1, -- KUWAIT_MODEX_NOSE_AND_VERTICAL_STABILIZERS [1003] = 1, -- AUSTRAILIA_MODEX_REAR_FUSELAGE_AND_GEAR_DOORS [1004] = 1, -- FINLAND_MODEX_FORWARD_FUSELAGE [1005] = 1, -- SWITZERLAND_MODEX_VERTICAL_STABILIZERS here:

Any specific map in question? When it comes to rendering graphics, ED is pushing what is possible with DX11, they said this however: The main achievement in 2022 is that DCS now works under Vulkan producing the same visuals as under DirectX. This result is fully ‘transparent’ for our graphics programmers, allowing them to write the same code for both platforms without the need to have separate code paths for Vulkan and DirectX11 and beyond. The next step is to provide our graphics programmers with the new Vulkan features compared to DirectX 11. These include new types of shaders (as per Shader Model 6 and further), ray tracing, some advanced rendering techniques, such as GPU driven rendering, and similar. At the present both, DirectX and Vulkan rendering produce exactly the same visuals, which means if Vulkan was released now, nothing would change in the visual aspects of DCS, however it for sure opens up the door to better shadows and lights, this in turn will make current 3D scenes look considerably better. Maps differ, depending which one you are flying low and slow, if you are into free maps, try Guam (free Marianas map) and if paid then go for Syria terrain. Rest of the maps are not that great for slow and low flying to be honest. However, even free Caucasus is much better to what it was 15 years ago. Crank up the graphical settings as well if your PC can, 1080Ti should handle it, your CPU isn't bad either, but for sure not at 4K resolution if you are into good FPS. Don't expect NTTR or Persian Gulf maps to change, not planned for considerable future, even though our community would love that.
