I'm having a blast and spending long hours again in DCS last night I took out an SA15 and SA 19 carefully at 8 km just in the treeline George can be pretty accurate when I have in FLT mode and increase decrease altitude

I can't wait for the FCR and L model hellfires I miss bobbing up getting targets masking and rippling off missiles, or as said above be a bit more choosy take a mix and use laser for non lethal targets and L model for pesky Tunguskas or similar...I can take out SA19 at 8.2 km lasing through less dense part of tree now but it's iffy

Apache AH-64D Flight Characteristics / FM - what could I expect?
poochies replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Yes definitely tough to master the hover and transitioning from fwd flight to hover, gotta trim in that sweet spot .... -
My ancient ! laptop with gtx 880M runs it pretty good but I get a lot of long freeze ups with selecting FLIR and TV and frame rate is manageable otherwise , textures at medium clouds standard cockpit rez 512 every other
-
The trim is like the Hind where you put your pedals and cyclic to a certain spot hit the trim and holds it there then takeoff is easy and hover , and fwd flight . I had limited time in the Hind but I find the trim procedure very similiar

It's a beast to handle but I'm addicted ! Was expecting easy FM a la Arma 3 or EEAH !

It does look great but should there be some vibrations ?

A la Longbow 2... ahhh the memories.. great campaign!

Back to A3’s pretty nice AH64 D mod to keep me sated for now …

This to me is the best answer, as you make your hard bank into the downwind leg, once you get down to 250 kts drop the gear and flaps, in the hard bank it won't balloon and when you level out at 600 ft trim for onspeed AOA

Wondering if there's a file we can change somewhere that will increase the LOD / draw distance for the TGP

Hi - how do you like you rtx 2070 super 8 ? I'm looking to upgrade but want to go to the max with rtx 2080 super 8 g laptop but want it to be at least 3 years future proof... I can't land the hornet like I used to due to the SC pushing my old 880m to it's limits... poor framerates makes little movements turn into bigger movements and it's a mess... anyways can't wait to upgrade! thanks for any advice on the rtx's …!

It is pretty cool , it gets the mav seeker pretty close to what your TGP is looking at but be careful have your mav on narrow FOV and make sure what you have Locked up is your target I’ve lost many mav’s to objects it locks up behind or close to my target -I’m so tempted to soi over to mav page and undesignate then slew the seeker to lock up what I want but that snow plows the TGP ... so I’m getting used to fine tuning the TGP slew to lock the mav to my intended target , new process to learn

I must need a new throttle I can't keep my approach glideslope anywhere near as smooth as yours I'm up and down and can't keep velocity vector between end of ship and 4th wire like you do...nice video
-
no , thanks for the clarifying of the steps, that seems super easy to get 4 mavs off in one pass !
-
Great thanks for the info I’ll try it tonight , didn’t know when you uncage the first mav all the others would slew with TGP and you could lock up a target by slewing TGP . Guess I’m used to doing it the other old way by going soi back to mav screen undesignating then slewing mav seeker to get lock .
-
I used to be very proficient with the MAV F's , locating target with TGP, designating target, sensor select to MAV screen, usually it uncages and goes right to target TGP is locked on, but when I undesignated with MAV as SOI, so I can slew seeker and lock up target, it puts the TGP into snowplow mode or somewhere but it loses it's lock , which is frustrating because I used to be able to rapidly slave each mav seeker to where the TGP is looking, and the TGP stayed locked in that target area. I maybe missed something in all these new tweaks to the TGP … thanks !

Once you get the bug properly trimmed for landing AOA I find she's the easiest jet to land of all my modules , but took me a lot! of practice … keep at it , very rewarding when yo can nail the landings. I like to keep a 3 to 4 degree glideslope using the pitch ladder on the HUD... I think a 700 fpm decent rate is what you should be shootng for..

You hit the nail on the head, once you go fly and learn something else extensively, you have to go back and re-learn the plane you loved so much . In my case , I loved the A10 way back in the day, then became obsessed with the harrier up to when they finally got the TGP lasing correctly and could drop gbu-12's … just loved coming back light from a mission and hovering in to parking.... Then the Hornet came and rocked my world … been on it since ( well I did take the Cat up once but that was it) … so if I go back to either the harrier or the A10 I'll be lost for a while..... But my fav so far is SEAD missions off the carrier in the gulf ...in the bug !
