  1. Use [/ youtube] tags and only put in whats after the v= in the url to embed video. As far as the gameplay goes, you shoot an awful lot of missiles that have a very low probability to kill. An AMRAAM being fired at 17nm can be defeated if the other guy accidentally moves his joystick. I usually don't fire until I'm within 12nm, preferably 8-9, and even then it's not crazy hard to defeat. You don't need to maneuver between shots like you do either, it just bleeds off your energy. If you're not getting shot at, no need to yank and bank. Pull out of burner and you won't have as many fuel issues. When evading an incoming missile, you don't need to immediately split S and turn circles low level, just beam the enemy (put him off your wingtip), try to see the missile, and if you can't find it in a few seconds then roll 90* away from the missile, pop chaff, and pull into a 180* turn. Everything else just kills your energy and actually doesn't bleed off as much of the missile's energy as beaming it because the missile doesn't need to travel as far. All in all, keep working at it and have fun. Don't take any of my comments as being mean, just trying to help you out. 1 missile saved is one you can use on the unexpected enemy when trying to go home.
  2. AOA should increase with altitude (barring all other factors equal) because your airframe is requiring a higher AOA in order to generate the same amount of lift because the air molecules are less dense, which is why if you try to fly the MiG-21 at 50,000ft you're at an insane AOA. From how I think about it, AOA should be the same for the same config and same speed at any altitude because that same less dense air is effecting the pitot system as well, which is the same reason you fly the same IAS when on approach to land at high altitudes in GA aircraft. This goes back to the debate on whether it's a symmetrical wing or not. A negative AOA on a symmetrical wing will cause you to go down. Until we have definitive proof of the wing type, we cannot accurately assess the question.
  3. I have the missile selector mapped to my HOTAS which didn't stop working while I was using it, pylon power was on and everything. Maybe it was outside of launch parameters with the closure rate or something. Again, evaded 3 AIM-120s only to get another launched at me from about 6 miles at the very furthest, just didn't have any moves left to make... I mean really, who launches an AMRAAM well WVR? At least use a sparrow or something.
  4. R.I.P. MiG-21
  5. They Gypsies of VFA-32 were over here a few months ago for some training in Kansas, cool guys
  6. Would love to hear stories and talk to you sometime, my OCS app for SNA is in and awaiting selection, so I would like to know how I could make life better everyone when I'm in and a part of a squadron.
  7. Yeah and you guys must be correct if Dolphin is saying that it's normal as well. I would like it if he would elaborate for us, I'm curious. :music_whistling:
  8. All the F-14s were destroyed so Russia couldn't get their hands on them... so probably pretty classified
  9. Ah, I see what you mean. If the MiG-21 has a symmetrical wing however, then this cannot be the case.
  10. AOA is the angle between the chord line and the relative wind. How I perceive it, it is impossible for a wing to generate positive lift with a negative AOA, it's just math at that point.
  11. Correct, just in the wrong direction in terms of negative AOA.
  12. EDIT: nvm, read Dolphin's post
  13. Quoted for the truth
  14. There is such thing as better aircraft, and there's a reason the Air Force uses the F-15 over any other aircraft. Its combat record is spotless. You wouldn't be able to pay me enough money to fly a MiG-21 in combat in real life, it would be a suicide mission. I will keep flying it online enough against Gen 4s because I enjoy the challenge and most others online (with the exception of a few) don't know how to effectively employ the Gen 4s, and on top of that, don't know how MiG-21 drivers fly. It comes down to flight characteristics. The MiG-21 isn't made to be agile. You can count on one hand how many cannon kills the MiG-21 has, it just wasn't made to purely dogfight vs a frame of the Eagle which was solely designed for A2A combat.
  15. I want a Hawk
  16. F-15 poops all over the MiG-21 with pilots of equal skill.
  17. I've had success in locked beam mode against an F-15 before. My tactic with it is to simply point my gun-sight at the enemy and press the lock key. If it's a good lock then you will get tone. Slightly more difficult if you're aiming down at him though, you'll have to watch out for ground targets. My issue was the extra weight of the R-60Ms that I usually don't carry. They say in emergency afterburner the MiG-21 is roughly as agile as the F-16, and I'm close to believing that, however it's still a slight overstatement. I can easily turn with F-15s, but if the fight goes vertical you really have to be careful and unload G to keep your speed up.
  18. Well, that one hurt a lot... Was on the 104th and found a SU-27 close head-on. Locked and launched an R-3R and actually had it go stupid. Never lost lock and I have no clue where it went off to. Tried to launch the 2nd but it wouldn't come off the rail (everything was checked, and double checked before takeoff to be hot).Needless to say, after the head on we both began maneuvering. I decided to experiment with the 2x R-3R and 4x R-60M, and even with emergency afterburner I couldn't do ANYTHING. Aircraft was extremely sluggish and slow, was buffeting through turns and promptly got an R-73 to the knee. I'm so disappointed in myself.
  19. Would love to see the AIM-54 in DCS.... The Anti-AMRAAM spam. Can you imagine everyone launching these things from 100nm? lol
  20. I think the only possible aircraft that could make me think twice about NOT playing with the F-18 when released would be the F-14. It was just so.... different and iconic.
  21. Turn radius increases with increase in speed. One could call this increase in turning radius a decrease in turning performance. This is exactly the reason you can't out-turn a 400kt bandit while you are going 500kts with G being equal between aircraft
