  1. Yeah and you guys must be correct if Dolphin is saying that it's normal as well. I would like it if he would elaborate for us, I'm curious. :music_whistling:
  2. All the F-14s were destroyed so Russia couldn't get their hands on them... so probably pretty classified
  3. Ah, I see what you mean. If the MiG-21 has a symmetrical wing however, then this cannot be the case.
  4. AOA is the angle between the chord line and the relative wind. How I perceive it, it is impossible for a wing to generate positive lift with a negative AOA, it's just math at that point.
  5. Correct, just in the wrong direction in terms of negative AOA.
  6. EDIT: nvm, read Dolphin's post
  7. Quoted for the truth
  8. There is such thing as better aircraft, and there's a reason the Air Force uses the F-15 over any other aircraft. Its combat record is spotless. You wouldn't be able to pay me enough money to fly a MiG-21 in combat in real life, it would be a suicide mission. I will keep flying it online enough against Gen 4s because I enjoy the challenge and most others online (with the exception of a few) don't know how to effectively employ the Gen 4s, and on top of that, don't know how MiG-21 drivers fly. It comes down to flight characteristics. The MiG-21 isn't made to be agile. You can count on one hand how many cannon kills the MiG-21 has, it just wasn't made to purely dogfight vs a frame of the Eagle which was solely designed for A2A combat.
  9. I want a Hawk
  10. F-15 poops all over the MiG-21 with pilots of equal skill.
  11. I've had success in locked beam mode against an F-15 before. My tactic with it is to simply point my gun-sight at the enemy and press the lock key. If it's a good lock then you will get tone. Slightly more difficult if you're aiming down at him though, you'll have to watch out for ground targets. My issue was the extra weight of the R-60Ms that I usually don't carry. They say in emergency afterburner the MiG-21 is roughly as agile as the F-16, and I'm close to believing that, however it's still a slight overstatement. I can easily turn with F-15s, but if the fight goes vertical you really have to be careful and unload G to keep your speed up.
  12. Well, that one hurt a lot... Was on the 104th and found a SU-27 close head-on. Locked and launched an R-3R and actually had it go stupid. Never lost lock and I have no clue where it went off to. Tried to launch the 2nd but it wouldn't come off the rail (everything was checked, and double checked before takeoff to be hot).Needless to say, after the head on we both began maneuvering. I decided to experiment with the 2x R-3R and 4x R-60M, and even with emergency afterburner I couldn't do ANYTHING. Aircraft was extremely sluggish and slow, was buffeting through turns and promptly got an R-73 to the knee. I'm so disappointed in myself.
  13. Would love to see the AIM-54 in DCS.... The Anti-AMRAAM spam. Can you imagine everyone launching these things from 100nm? lol
  14. I think the only possible aircraft that could make me think twice about NOT playing with the F-18 when released would be the F-14. It was just so.... different and iconic.
  15. Turn radius increases with increase in speed. One could call this increase in turning radius a decrease in turning performance. This is exactly the reason you can't out-turn a 400kt bandit while you are going 500kts with G being equal between aircraft

  17. The best time to use it is after you're already discovered in BVR, otherwise it's a big "Kill Me" sign. Didn't know that about the locking gate on jamming targets though, I never even pressed lock until it was inside... haha As far as the loadout goes, I usually take 2 R-60 and 2 R-3R. I thought about taking the double racks, but my R-3Rs fall off all the time from maneuvering anyway (INCREDIBLY annoying), so I doubt the chances of a double rack staying on the aircraft for me, plus I really never find myself in a dogfight at all, usually it's R-3R and goodnight. Most of the time I only launch one and see how it explodes, my reasoning is that if it does hit then he's either going to be dead or so injured he may as well be dead, leaving me with another shot if needed on someone else.
  18. Of course it's not a modern-day sidewinder. The videos shown really don't show te bandit doing any evasive maneuvers though, going back to what I said about needing to manuever as well as use countermeasures in order to defeat a missile (which I've found that 90% of players don't know how to do).
  19. But even with that video, the countermeasures weren't deployed between the missile and the aircraft, but off to the side, so the missile is still likely to hit. It takes a pretty good reflex time in order to defeat a MiG-21 shot because of the short distance and high speed of the missiles Not true, the R-3R is a medium-to-late Vietnam era copy of the AIM-9.
  20. No clue, but I usually don't fire until I'm in good range, kinda like not firing an AMRAAM at 15nm. Besides, chaff is useless if you don't manuever when using it.
  21. So far I could probably count on one hand the amount of R-3Rs that missed on one hand, and that includes the ones I fired with a bad solution. The next few days is going to be rough, have to get the house ready for a graduation party and write papers... Going to go through withdraw
  22. I'm still used to the A-10, old habits die hard! I just like how quickly I reaquire the target and fire, much better looking than done other kills.
  23. When you can see the missile has missing textures you know you're in for pain.
