DCS cameras, views and video recording

Fraps only gets what is on the screen. You will not be able to change the camera viewpoint during a FRAPS playback. -
DCS cameras, views and video recording

Fast Forward is possible (I don't recall the keystroke) but rewind is not. Keep in mind that FFW is liable to cause your track to not replay correctly. -
This is a simulation. You can't have one without the other.

1. Your post is in the wrong section, by a long shot. 2. My bet is that your game resolution is not the same as your Windows resolution. Having the two not match can, in most cases, cause exactly what you are describing.

2560x1440 or 3440x1440
cichlidfan replied to Smorpheus84's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
21:9 is 30% wider, in terms of FOV. That is only 15% per side. The next problem is that you are still working with a screen that has little height compared to what you are trying to view. In a racing sim, and other land based games, this works quite well since most everything is on the same plane. However, in a flight sim, you need as much spatial awareness in the vertical plane along with the horizontal and you will find that lack to be significant in aerial combat. -
Think about driving to work while time was moving twice as fast. Remember, your own reaction time is still the same. Nobody would want to play such a mission, even if it could be done.

Fixing bent Warthog grip pin - suggestions?
cichlidfan replied to Barefoot Bandit's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Good deal. Yep, the needle nose plier method is used by everyone I know in the hardware support field. I have done it, to mice and keyboards (in olden times), so many times that I have lost count. -
Display Port cable troubleshooting - worth to read
cichlidfan replied to Abburo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is so true. Years ago I got a nice 1440p monitor. The cable that came with it was not long enough so I bought a new cable. I had serious issues with the display and actually thought I had a display problem. Testing with the cable supplied with the monitor resolved the problem. The moral of the story is to not buy cheap cables. I only buy from reputable manufacturers and the higher price is just a fact of life. I have DP and HDMI cables in the 25' range and you don't want to know what they cost, but they work. -
Damn. Really sorry to hear that. You have my condolences. :(

 Well, it is nice to know that I am not the only one that qualifies for the Senior Citizen discount at IHOP. :) @FragBum Good to hear. That gray hair thing sucks, though. Every time I get mine cut I get reminded how much is gray. -
Did you recently learn Russian? It seems that fluency in that language would be a requirement for such a position.

At the time, it seemed awesome (compared to NT 3.1). However, I will admit that, at my age, my memory is not what it used to be. ;) -

Actually, it's a bit scary. You should see what else is in the boxes I pulled those from. Now I really feel old. Since I worked in an MSDN environment, I never saw anything but raw distro CD's. The rest came from corporate server DLs. -

Indeed. In another lifetime, I designed shielding products for the secure data comm world. I used to be able to go over to the shop and bend/weld my own test parts and then send the simple drawings to the shop. By the time I left that field, the drawings had to be adapted to the way Computer Automated Manufacturing machines worked. It was twice as much work to get the shop to make a simple piece, and that made for so much more room for errors, and the end product was the same. -

The issues like this are not confined to MS or even the computer industry. Every industry does QA tests and nothing passes 100% of the time. The problem arises when you have a 0.01% failure rate, which is statistically small, but you have 100 million customers. EDIT: @FragBum Oh wow! NT4 was sweet. Pretty much everything worked the way it was supposed to and my support tasks were 99% user related. Yeah, I am old too! ;) I still have NT4 installation CD's. -
Oh hell yes. Regardless of whether you are investing a few thousand or a few hundred thousand, spread it out. I just did a quick scan of my 2017 tax documents and the numbers show that I am invested in nearly 5 dozen different equities, spread over 12 different industry sectors. That is also only half of the account since other funds are in fixed income investments. The important thing is that any one of those companies could tank tomorrow and my losses would not be life altering.

Actually, your comment came off as a platform independent statement indicating that you knew everything about every aircraft in the sim and were more skilled than everyone else on the forum. This ludicrous statement had nothing to do with the fact that you use a Mac.

The key here, and I am not defending Uncle Bill, is that it says 'some'. I would imagine that their statistical analysis reported that the issue would only affect a limited number (by some standard) of users which made it acceptable. The FDA approves medications that have side effects, including death, that only affect a small percentage of the test groups. My sim box is connected to the net via a USB 3 wifi dongle. I recently had to hard wire it to the router to get the latest updates to install since they disabled my USB 3 during the installation process. I would definitely consider this unacceptable, but then I would also consider a major memory leak to be unacceptable as well. Life sucks, and there is always another patch. ;) -
I think that only applies to people that get promoted in jobs that they get paid for.

I don't know what is beyond 'super-duper' but that is where FC4 is.

Notice, I did say 'BTC or other cryptos'. I have no doubt that you are doing well. I think we have two completely different outlooks and strategies. Both can be successful. I am financially conservative with most of my portfolio. I have about 100k that I consider 'play money', invested just to see what happens, and the rest is tied to tried and true investments since I have to live on their results. I lost my ass between 1998 and 2008 on various investments. I held a number of 'apparently' failing stocks that turned around. There were others that did not. If you feel comfortable with the inherent risks in crypto, then I wish you well. I don't feel comfortable so I stay away.

There are lots of great stocks out there. Any of them will beat the mining fad over the long term. My retirement income is based on my investment portfolio, and nothing else. If I, or my investment managers, really thought BTC or other cryptos would provide a significant advantage, I would be there.

You only make money if you sell high. I have been holding Activision/Blizzard for years but it is now worth seven times what I paid. It could drop by half and I would still have a significant profit. Investing in any highly volatile stock is risky.
