  1. You might also query some of the authors of heli pilot books from that era, such as Robert Mason or Robert Garrison.
  2. If you are waiting for a G-sync VR headset then I suspect you will be waiting for quite a while.
  3. In that case 500GB will be more than satisfactory.
  4. The biggest issue with lilliput and similar monitors is that they are USB, which is a very inefficient way to manage video. For USB monitors to work the data must move through the graphics bus and then back to the USB bus which creates lag and lower FPS.
  5. That is really the wrong approach, unless you only can afford one physical display to handle all of your needs. My TV's are 1080p devices which are perfect since there is very little 4k material currently available. My sim pit monitor is 4k though I do have a CV1 (kickstarter freebie). A good TV is rarely equal to a good computer monitor when overall performance is considered. Also, a good gaming monitor is, IMHO, much larger than is practical for a desktop monitor. Gaming on a 40" monitor is great but working on a word processor doc or spreadsheet is rather impractical on that same monitor unless you are sitting 10 feet away.
  6. Everybody has different thresholds for spending. I know people that will spend ridiculous amounts of money on more vehicles than they need but won't spend an extra dime on a better computer. It is all a matter of perspective and priorities coupled with differing amounts of disposable income.
  7. Depends on what you mean by upcoming and whether, or not, you plan to install both the OB and release versions.
  8. You miss my point. Please reread my post. Beyond what I have already said, I am withdrawing from this thread since my concerns are not personal but general.
  9. As said. Install DCS World. If you own FC3 (not FC2 and previous version) then you will be able to install it. You will have to login to your ED account, as mentioned above.
  10. No offense taken. I love this stuff. Btw, Martin Pegler will make you realize that a rifle, or a handgun, is far more complicated than you ever thought. https://www.amazon.com/Martin-Pegler/e/B001JP20LC
  11. Never meant to detract from other users. However, book knowledge is never the same as having hands on the hardware. I have read just about every book, that I have found, on the development of the rifle. It doesn't make me a great shooter.
  12. Correct. The Suites are cockpit electronic changes. The engines are still basically the same thing as the ones that rolled out with the very first version of the aircraft.
  13. Nothing but deep respect on my part. I've been learning from Snoopy's posts for seven years. Aside from his tendency toward harder rock than I usually like, his knowledge is second to none around here.
  14. You should, since Snoopy is the one of the few on this forum that actually knows what he is talking about when it comes to the A-10.
  15. This could be an important issue. Although most will not be likely to run into the situation, if change of BIOS includes just tweaking settings then it is a problem. If it means updating the BIOS, which would generally require a network connection, then it is no big deal. I am far more concerned with the idea that if your internet fails, unexpectedly, you have no way to convert to offline mode and your game is unplayable.
  16. Since you brought it up, Steam doesn't work the way ED has implemented it. If I go out of town and start up my laptop and start Steam without connecting to the internet, it asks me if I wan't to go offline and when I click yes then all of my games work. In the case of DCS, I would have to set it to offline before I unhooked the laptop at home.
  17. Even with a new CPU/mobo that graphics card is going to severely hurt performance.
  18. DCS Bios is not needed if you use a Bodnar board. It will look like a generic USB device to the sim and can be programmed just like any other joystick type device from within DCS.
  19. Interesting. I have one of those in my 'old PC stuff storage' area. It has been years since it was hooked up.
  20. Though I tend to keep up with the current gen hardware. I am really glad that I spent the money on the house during that period. :)
  21. I guess you don't know what OP means.
  22. I don't disagree with your basic premise. However, they should have fixed the cockpits before forcing the user to live with the poor results of the current implementation. I know that it is beta at the moment but history shows that it will move to the release branch before the problem is fixed.
  23. The OP didn't mention anything about GPUs at all and he is running a 1070 which is not a high end GPU. OP post, just to refresh your memory:
  24. It amazes me that any serious gamer is not already running everything from an SSD. I bought my first one nearly seven years ago. My last laptop purchase (two years ago), ASUS ROG G75, came with 128GB SSD and a 1TB HD. I immediately replaced the 1TB HD with a 512GB SSD.
