  1. Go to the File pulldown and select New. That will allow to select a map.
  2. Since memory is hardware, how is hardware irrelevant to this discussion? In fact, this whole thread is about hardware. Please reference the thread title.
  3. Absolutely. The whole point of retiring v1.5 was to avoid supporting two dev branches. Any modules released from here forward will be v2.5+ compatible only. It is unfortunate for those with older hardware but this is no different than any other franchise releasing new versions. You wouldn't expect the latest release from a console dev to be compatible with an Xbox 360?
  4. That would have been the most likely cause, had the OP not already solved the problem (which was a Win 7 issue). :)
  5. Which means 4x the pixel count.
  6. I haven't run Win 7 in so long that it would have been the last thing to occur to me.
  7. It is still very old and could probably benefit from updates to take advantage of the newer graphics of the base sim.

Understanding it is impossible. I was referring to understanding markets and industries, not the stock market itself. I certainly don't understand the market in any great depth. However, working with observed results and trends does not require understanding and still allows one to benefit from it. You don't have to understand the physics behind why a taught rope will act the way it does when you step on it to be able to learn how to walk across it. :)
  9. Welcome EPO. I am sure there are some unfriendly types on MP servers. However, the folks in this community are, generally, very forgiving of those that are new to the sim. I rarely fly MP but I have fond memories of a gentleman from Germany that took the time to fly with me, my first time online, and put up with my ineptitude. I am sure you will find some great people to fly with.
  10. I would be interested in knowing what your experience is with 8GB of RAM. Since you have 16GB you haven't been testing the environment that you propose. I haven't had an 8GB system in four years and would never consider recommending it to anyone. Prior to the past six months memory was so inexpensive that it would have been silly to skimp in that area. Memory headroom does matter, regardless what you think.
  11. I have the mount the OP posted. I used to use it for a second monitor. Personally, I do not think it is useful for a joystick since it does not lock into place and would have a tendency to move when you try to move the joystick.
  12. Hmmm. If memory serves, beta testing is about identifying issues. The fact that this one did not get caught earlier does not make it immune from concern by those that are seeing it now. Not saying that ED should catch every issue but nobody should be shamed for bringing up an obvious issue until it is fixed.
  13. VR is not a consideration. System performance is. Personally, unless my machines were in dire need of an upgrade, the current prices of RAM and GFX cards would stop me from doing anything in that regard (unless money is just not an issue). Of course, nobody knows how DCS v2.5 should run on any type of RAM since their is a root issue with RAM usage.

Guys. Make informed (invest in what you understand) investments in the stock market. Don't look for 'get rich quick' schemes. Profit. EDIT: Expect results to take time. It took me 20 years (ten of that involved no new computer hardware or games and reading used paperbacks) to create a structure that has allowed me to live off of the income. :)
  15. Wow. Making sense in a wish list. Have you no shame. ;)
  16. At any size, or resolution, a dedicated monitor will always provide better performance that the equivalent TV. My 4k monitor is a couple of years old now, and it was not cheap, at the time. The only excuse to use a TV is if you are dead set on a huge size, in which case I would just say 'Good Luck'.
  17. The current version of v2.5 has a memory leak issue, which ED is has acknowledged. This means that any information about current memory usage is invalid. Until this problem is corrected there is no accurate user supplied information about the memory needs of v2.5.
  18. Keep in mind that the info is over a year old.
  19. Sure NASA could have done the same thing, for at least 20 times as much money.
  20. ^^ This. I have a 500GB SSD for flight sims only (this does not count terrain and other FSX/P3D addons), and it is over half full. Get the largest drive you budget will allow.
  21. As jvanhoog said, a ram upgrade will be a waste of money. A GPU upgrade is the only logical choice unless you wish to just save all the money toward a complete system upgrade. A 2600 was a great chip but without the ability to overclock it there is little you can do to prolong it's serviceable life.
  22. It would be awesome if they actually produce a proper consumer product. However, their claims about hardware requirement strike me as extremely optimistic.
  23. Thread titles cannot be edited except by moderators. I suspect that this is a restriction of the forum software and not something that can be changed by ED.
  24. I don't use AI Suite for anything. I let my fans run full tilt and leave the automation out of the picture. No dependencies, no issues.
