  1. PSU failures frequently take out other components. I would much rather spend an extra $100 on a PSU that is bigger/better than necessary, than have to replace other more expensive components. The machine I am typing this on has a 7 year old Corsair AX850 in it (the rest of the components have been upgraded more than once). Currently it is running an 17-3820, 16GB, Zotac GTX1080 Amp Extreme. I will still be using that PSU when I install a new mobo/cpu/memory combo this summer.
  2. Hopefully not, since he is just a graphic artist (an awesome one though) and not a coder.
  3. Agreed. The problem isn't our hardware but the core DCS software. Unfortunately, without a major engine rewrite, I don't see a great deal of improvement in the future. Vulkan might help but it is still a bandaid approach.
  4. Nope. You are the only one that used that word. A 15" monitor implies a certain res, due to it's age. A 24" does not.
  5. If this were a submarine sim, that would be great for cold war era stuff. Otherwise, not so much.
  6. I still have my first SSD. It's only 60GB but it makes a nice portable drive (though I actually don't know where it is, at the moment). ;) However, if you do want to throw one away, the security concerns are easily dealt with (just like with platter drives). Just drill a hole in it. I should note that glass platters are messy when you do that.
  7. I believe the limit is around two weeks.
  8. Last but not least. Michael McDonald with Donald Fagan and the late Walter Becker. Backing singers Carolyn Leonhart et. al. Steely Dan...the finest group of musicians to ever take the stage.
  9. Possibly the most surprising piano talent... Hugh Laurie. Some fans of House might be shocked to discover his other talents. :) He plays guitar and is humble, too! I remember seeing Tom on the daytime talk show circuit when I was around ten. My parents (were they still here) would be stunned to see him still performing.
  10. I know that I am old when I realize that I have been following this guy since Phil was just the drummer in a band called Genesis. ;)
  11. Stevie and Sting
  12. Another couple of fair to middlin piano players... ;)
  13. Still stuns me that Elvis Costello is her husband. In physics they call it strange attractions. This one is known as a Patsy Cline hit, but Willie is the actual author of the song. I have seen all three of them, but never together.
  14. Excellent performance of great tune.
  15. Interesting. I have an X-56 that has never been connected to a PC (it's not alone). My X-52 Pro was sold many years ago.
  16. Being single, with two dogs that don't care about me until meal/treat time ( plus they have no thumbs), this would be a no go. ;)
  17. This is pretty much what we were told several years ago. No surprise.
  18. There was a time when a Dremel could fix anything, unless it was big enough to require a Sawzall. Luckily, I have both, along with bubble wrap and duck tape.
  19. I had a Celeron, back in the mid 90's. It was awesome since I was able to overclock it from 300MHz to 450MHz (which is why I bought it). It held up for two years until it got squirrely.
  20. :D Buying FB right after they bought Oculus has worked out well also. I know the feeling. I am still the 'IT guy' for a number of neighbors and family members, as well as one of the techs that installed my new A/C two years ago.
  21. v2.5 release version does not exist yet.
  22. Looks tremendously uncomfortable and of limited utility for a flight sim. Btw, my first kickstarter backing was the Oculus Rift for which I ended up with both a DK1 and a CV1 for about $350.
  23. With the open exterior door right there, I doubt there was much risk. Those sprays are generally quite heavy and not a fine aerosol. I would have still done it in the dark with red lights.
  24. The fact that you mention the monitor dimensions, and not the resolution, reflects very poorly on your knowledge of hardware. Of course, you did say that specs don't matter.
