How to explode myself after a set time limit
Wrecking Crew replied to Wolf8312's topic in Mission Editor
Send me your mission and I'll try to make it work, sounds interesting. And I am 97% sure it can work. "This bus will blow up if the SPEED is <50 MPH!" -
No I hope not I love my A-10C. That $60 is moot after 6 years. Combined Arms is a regular role and it is a blast IMO once learned. The older FC3 a/c are there and my F-15C flies well and is still a challenge in A2A. My friends are talking about their F-5 and Viggen, and the WWII stuff. Third party work is in parallel with the engine development.

Hey, Fraser, I went to school at Ft. Bliss for about 8 months (1973), for the basic and advanced classes. I was very familiar with the HIPIR radar (High Power Illuminator Radar) and knew my way around the HAWK system. My roommate was a Pulse Acquisition Radar mechanic - that's the one with the big rotating wire cage (we would sit in the center of the antenna and spin around). Then to Korea for a year, overlooking the DMZ up near Camp Red Cloud. That was an experience to be there in Korea, in the Land Of The Frozen Chosen, and to work on the radars (also the CWAR). Rain and shine, snow and wind, you had to be right out there - we did have canvas covers to snap over the ends so we could work on the electronics under a bit of shelter. In those days the electronics were full of mini-tubes, with 250 VDC plates; went across 440 VAC while working in the fuse panel, and almost took off my sergeant's head with the wrench in my hand. I remember kicking a waveguide stub when I couldn't tune the frequency and the darn thing broke right off, I quickly discerned that the stub *must* have been cracked, and the replacement fixed the problem. One day some wet-behind-the-ears LT took over the radar controls without asking in the Battery Command Central and swung the antenna around and almost took my legs off at the thighs - I chewed him out I was sooo angry, and me a Spec 4. We did air mobile exercises in Korea, and I would hook up the radars to Chinook helicopters; one Chinook came down too fast and crushed the top of one of the HIPIR's Micky Mouse ears - I stopped doing the hookups after that. One Chinook dropped a Missile Loader and it landed in a rice paddy and we brought it back to the compound and it was about 12 inches high after its crash landing. Another Chinook had a rack of HAWK missiles that slipped in the sling such that the missiles were pointing straight up at the helicopter and the missile noses were about 6 inches from the bottom of the bird - the pilots did not know if the missiles would explode if they dropped them so they kept flying with them like that - the crew chief was pushing a broom out the hatch at the missiles to keep them from spinning. My sergeant would hook up the last jeep and climb up the rigging into the helicopter and off we went. Our battery went to go to the range to shoot, and a Nike-Hercules missile launched and blew up about 100' off the launcher and chunks went all over and about 400 lbs almost hit the mess hall. After Korea I went back to Ft. Bliss and taught the radar for a year before 'retiring'. In the first screenshot, there is a module up on the top of the modern radar between the Micky Mouse ears. That, AFAIK, is a video camera that is used to search for targets without emitting detectable RF energy. One ear transmits and the other receives. It was in Korea that I was in the HAWK Battery B 2/71st and we called ourselves "The Wrecking Crew". Those were the days :) That is the radar, I'm the smart a$$ in the middle -- our Captain took this picture after we landed our battery --

This is the HAWK radar unit that I maintained in Korea -- Great resemblance to the actual radar unit. On the HIPIR radar getting ready to hook it up to another Chinook, demonstrating air-mobile exercises in 1974 --

You are too low, below 6000, and may be heading down too fast. Drop a few from 12,000' and get the hang of them, they spread way out when released with enough altitude. Watch the bombs drop with F6 View and they pop open and the bomblets spray out - it happens real fast, and then it takes 10s of seconds for the strikes. I like CBU-97's the best.

Suggest using for MFDs 1024 Every Frame. To see it full screen do Cockpit Panel View Toggle, then View Right Slow. -
I got my vote done, had a few spare minutes at Creech during a refuel stop. But I cannot see the results, except for once. When I go back to the Vote page there is no Result button.

I can't vote! :smartass:

UN Convoy - Multiplayer Mission
Wrecking Crew replied to SUNTSAG's topic in User Created Missions General
Well, here is the debate again about intellectual content. SUNTSAG, I think you were wrong to use the sound files from previous missions. I have a few sound files in a mission that were made by my wife and my father in law, and I would not feel comfortable if I were to hear their voices come out of your mission. OTOH, what we mission designers do is publicly published. We have NO control over what happens with the mission or its content. I sanctioned my missions for other's use because there is no expectation of control. I do expect respect for the content, and note in the Briefing to retain the authors original comments. If you want others to collaborate in your missions then, Yes, you need to have their permission. Wrecking Crew -
Multiplayer missions performance
Wrecking Crew replied to ked's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Read your post earlier and am not surprised there wasn't an answer. The Hollo Pointe server is limited to 16 slots, and it can handle that easily on a 60-80 MB connection. I do run the server stand-alone. Your slot count is far beyond mine. Hope it works out... -
:pilotfly: Hmmm, 1300 Colorado time. We just went on Daylight Savings Time so time is ...

Where is this F-15C Trim Reset command? -
Last I played with this, it worked for Red but not for Blue. I think it was that Blue wouldn't embark. The binding to the transport is missing -- See Post# 3.

I've discussed 'punishing' a player, too; what are you going to do? I let it go that guns can be reloaded. Is this slot a ground start? You can make it a chore for the pilot to load gun ammo with an Air Start slot that starts at 100 or so feet above the runway. --- We use Slmod on the Hollo Pointe server for admin functions. Suggest you look at Mist and Lua scripts. We have a script that detects player 'take off' events -- don't know all of the things that can be detected.

I think that is reactive armor, not smoke.
-
No, there is nothing you can do. I went through this issue a few years back. It was an important part to a mission, so I asked, too.

Here we go -- BeachAV8R's GRADEX mission is a classic.

Post the mission so we can take a look at it.

I have a A-10C mission for ships that has been broken since 1.1.1.1. Get close to the ships/boats and they disappear, and MAVs have the worst time locking them. What you see is the wake, but no ship in the water. Every few versions I test it,,, prolly time to test ships again. This reminds me of the not-visible bridge up by Hosta, not visible until 1-2 miles.

Aircraft placement and usage help please
Wrecking Crew replied to GunnyCook's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I should know this, but I think all you need to do is put the a/c at an airfield or FARP and set it to Start On Ramp and check the Uncontrolled box. I think that is all you have to do, to be able to control the a/c from a Game Master or Tactical Commander slot. You could give the Uncontrolled a/c a route and a Triggered Action to Start, and it will then go to where you set it to once you give it the Start command. -
I got carried away with your mission today and added some features -- so you can see the possibilities. The target Blue convoy is randomly activated from two starting points, and when one of the convoy units is killed, the convoy will deploy a Stinger team to help ward off the Ka-50s. I delayed the MiG from search and engage until one of the convoy is killed. I'm using my flag scheme and so changed the names of the groups. A Client Ka-50 and Game Masters for both sides were added. There are Radio options for testing. The helicopter detections are switched over to script now using Mist functions and are coalition based instead of Group/Unit based. Wherever you see Flag 1 in the Conditions that is being used to disable an event. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned 'balance'. That's the key to a fun mission IMO. I tried the Stinger teams on Excellent but they killed the Ka-50. To do any script work I recommend using the free Notepad++. Have fun!

I agree, the Huey has no radar or even RWR, and is quite vulnerable to anything other than basic armor and infantry. The Gazelles did not do a good job attacking that's why I set that group back to 1 unit and added the Apache. I took all the missiles off the Blue MiG because it was deadly to Reaper gunship. Added the Blue Stinger commo guy for increased range.

I used the first New Mission from your post 3.4.17 at 0828. It was a good start!
