Actually, this behavior is described in the manual.

My only gripe with Jester is his inconsistency in detection performance of radar contacts. Sometimes, he can make out a target 45 miles away at 1000 feet, and in others, he cannot detect a Mig approaching head on until visual contact. I appreciate that the radar on the F4 is archaic, but still. In most cases, I am able to detect a target in the WSO seat while he cannot. May be he needs to undergo retraining in radar use lol

So basically, when AFCS is engaged pushing the NWS button disables heading hold/wing leveling when the bank angle is less than 5 degrees. Is this correct?

I have read the team's explanations but it is still not clear to me whether the current situation (no detection of radar tracking/launch by aerial platforms) represents the intended behavior and will not change. It should be able to detect, per @JNelson, when a radar (including an aircraft radar) switches from search mode to tracking mode. He also said they are working on detection of certain known missile threats. It is good to see the team is interacting with the community on the perceived issues, including this one. I love this module. It is very well made and a blast to fly. I'm looking forward to seeing it getting better.

RWR unable to detect tracking/launch by aerial platforms
primus_TR posted a topic in Bugs & Problems
RWR can detect tracking/launch by SAMs, but never by other aircraft (tried with AI only). The attached track shows a single F4 vs Mig23 engagement scenario in clear whether. The RWR accurately detects the type of threat (Mig23), but cannot detect when the Mig switches to tracking and launches an R24R. Track: F4EvMig23_R24R.trk -
The RWR on the F4 never (that is NEVER) detects the radar switching from search to tracking/launch from aerial platforms. With SAMs, it detects it correctly, but NEVER with aerial platforms. I'd love to see a track of any instance where the rwr warns tracking by an aircraft. So, it might be prudent to look into it, rather than brushing it off.

If at the time when you order a range setting Jester is focused on a target track, he'll maintain the range at which the target track is. Other than that, he always follows range and scan width orders (in may experience).

I have done exactly the same what you describe here. I left three pages that I'm interested in, and zipped the others into a single rar file and left it inside the same directory. Worked perfectly for me. The removed pages stayed gone. Edit: I have noticed that your DCS is installed under Program Files in C drive. That might be your issue. Windows may be preventing changing folder contents.

Unfortunately, he could not detect the Mig23 on the radar for some reason. I was able to detect it myself in the WSO seat.
-
It is showing as a recognized radar signature for Mig21/23/F4/F5 etc. I attached a track. You can watch it if interested.

I noticed that I don't get a lock-on/ launch warning when a Mig23 launches an R24R at me. This has been quite consistent. I normally get lock/launch warning from SAMs, but not from Mig23. Is this normal behavior or a bug? Track attached. F4EvMig23_R24R.trk

I had it a couple of times also. Always after trying to add a waypoint from a map marker

That may be due to INS misalignment.

How to win at BFM in the Mighty F-4E Phantom
primus_TR replied to Victory205's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Thank you for that video. It was very informative and inspirational Almost made me believe that I too can emerge victorious in a dogfight in the F4E. I am impressed how you never lost sight of the Mig. I think close-range visibility issues, be it for poor eye sight, lack of concentration, DCS limitations, hardware limitations, etc. account for a significant portion of complaints about the AI. With labels on, my success rate quadruples. In any case, great energy preservation, great flying. Thank you again for a very informative video. -

Making assumptions about things you know nothing about doesn't reflect well on you. Focus on the discussion. You asked me a question. I was kind enough to answer to point out the relevance of my post. If this has caused you emotional devastation, then find a way to deal with it. Geez -

You preorder because you get a hefty discount for parting with your cash before getting the product. So, prepurchasing also makes financial sense and not only a gesture of support. -

DCS F-4E Phantom II Release Date Announcement- May 21st 2024

Lesson for ED and HB: Commit to a date range, never to a set date. Better yet, never commit. That'll give some folks something else to get their pants in a wedgie, and there's never a shortage of that. -

Would Heatblur consider re-naming Jester for the F-4E?
primus_TR replied to Spino's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Wasn't it the 1000xr? Nah, nevermind. You're right. His ride was surely the 900r. Got nostalgic. Had an xr1000 back in 92. I remember turning 160 once. Fast little devil -
He means the near and far markers. You hear a buzz when overflying them. I think it is not possible to turn their sound off
