Every time someone asks a question about game mode it always deflates into "waste of a good sim" or "you're doing it all wrong". It's like going into a long discussion of an Intel product just to say "But AMD is better!" For my own selfish satisfaction, I'm going to boot up the sim, set it in game mode then play with the keyboard. You mad? Edit:

If it doesn't boot at all it's likely to be the CPU or motherboard. Even with no cooler installed you should be able to atleast get into the BIOS as all processors and motherboards used today have failsafes that automatically clock down the processor when the temperature gets too high. So it's near impossible to "burn it out". This is a trial and error process, do you have any hardware available for swapping?

How to tinker with the afterburner detent is in the manual that comes with the HOTAS. Mine came without the detent installed for afterburner so it was pretty much a perfect plug-and-play device (all the controls in DCS were already mapped apart from the trim hat switch).

You've got it backwards. The point of a sim is that you can not drop as many of whatever bombs or missiles you want or your simulated commanding officer would have your wings on a plate. You're talking about games such as Top Gun or HAWX, where you get 100 Sidewinders and 50 HARMs to fire before needing to land and rearm. Kid.

What was the problem exactly? Your ATC responded perfectly to everything except when you asked permission for takeoff from the ramp... And I agree, Guinness and flying is fun :D

I've got the Nvidia 3D Vision and I have never noticed any of the effects mentioned. The first 5 to 15 minutes of use are a bit uncomfortable but after that it's smooth sailing. 5 hours of use makes me no more strained than one hour.

If you did an air start do you think you would be able to stay up long enough to drop your ah... 30 mk-84s?

There are a lot of targets in the first mission, did you verify with JTAC if you were engaging his targets? Also, there isn't just "one target" when the target given is the entire colomn of tanks. It takes a disturbing amount of munitions to take out 12+ tanks
