Ohhhhhhhhhhhh the wait is killing me...
Depth replied to blackbelter's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
One of my mates asked me to have a look at his laptop which was running slow and unresponsive. Took it apart and the amount of dust in there was unbelieveable. -
What are you waiting for? Mount the bloody thing to the car! Quite literally 'self-propelled'

Yeah laptops usually don't take kindly to overclocking. -
Go with the full system update. I have the 3D Vision (first one) and and it doesn't go well with DCS. You're either looking at the cockpit (really close) or terrain (really far). It looks neat at 300 feet AGL but at any altitude at all it'll just give you a headache trying to shift your focus between the cockpit and anything else. On top of that the mouse cursor is layered on top of everything, so when focusing on the mouse you'll go cross-eyed and all the buttons split in two. Focus on the button and the mouse will be split in two. TGP is represented by a 2D screen so you won't get any lovely Depth* there either. *Hilarious pun intended

That's not true, he's also allowed to individually list everything he sees 115 nautical miles away during takeoff. I don't give him any munitions though, I just like the extra company for when that AWACS guy creeps me out.

Bit more on topic, tried a ramp start at -50 celcius. Didn't bother aligning the GPS for just a small test so flew mostly by instruments Really powerful thrust from the engines, brakes did bugger all once I was rolling. Took off first just to check basic handling and land. Had to shut down the engines in order to stop when I landed as they never go below 70% :p It kinda handles like you expect a brick not to, but the second takeoff was the quickest and easiest climb to 10000 feet I've ever done Minus50 Flight.trk

To get back to the alignment menu hit FUNC, NAV(numeral 2 key) and then ALIGN To get your steerpoints back just cycle waypoints and they'll pop back :)

Haha I'll remember that if I ever run into some flying buildings :D Time to shoot some trains!

Yes, I was pretty far out. I wasn't aware the IR seeker was so sensitive it could detect the miniscule heat output from a pylon at that range

It's like going on vacation Edit: I absolutely love how you can have a city of 400 inhabitants and build a nuclear powerplant to provide their homes with airconditioning units. "Hmm, coal is too polluting... Oh I know, lets import uranium!"

I just made a thriving island community in Tropico 4 with a rock solid economy, excellent healthcare coverage, social security and free quality housing. Hail Satan!

I was really enthusiastic about a 65D launch once but it never hit its target. Could not for the life in me figure out where it headed, nothing at all on the TGP. Looked at the track and apparently it had locked onto and completely obliderated a pylon a few 20 metres east of the intended target. I'm still speechless. And I can imagine the tank crews were as well.

Hahaha I can see the headlines now:

Web based ATC simulator, a lot of texting involved but very addictive once you grasp the commands. Really taxes your ability to solve several problems at once, and coincidentally your keyboard skills :D http://atc-sim.com/ For the first few go's set the airport to Dubai and realism to easy. Command examples for flight UAE155: UAE155 C 2 - Cleared for 2000 feet UAE155 C 10 - Cleared for 10000 feet (any 1 or 2 digit number = height in 1000 feet) UAE155 C 190 - Cleared for heading 190 (any 3 digit number = heading) UAE155 C MAXMO - Cleared to divert to VOR station Maxmo (for diverting flights. Leaves your list and screen, must be at least altitude 4000 to hand over) UAE155 T - Cleared for takeoff (clearance for altitude must be given prior) UAE155 L 12R - Cleared to land runway 12R (must be below 3000 feet AGL and be on proper glidescope) Less vital but still very useful commands: UAE155 C 190 L - Turn Left to heading 190 UAE155 C 190 R - Turn Right to heading 190 (suffix can be added to any command) UAE155 C 2 EX - Cleared for 2000 feet, expedite (twice the climb or fall rate) UAE155 S 400 - Set airspeed 400 knots (Any 3 digit number, I usually instruct outbound planes to 450 which is close to the actual planes cruising speed) UAE155 H - Taxi and hold at start of runway UAE155 A - Abort landing SCALE - shows map scale markers, rings of 5 nm Planes must be seperated either laterally by 1 nm or vertically by 3000 feet. Happy controlling

I loved it until the point they pretended to fall off their chairs. And how much were those girls paid to associate with this group?
-
Reminds me of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy books where there is a capital punishment involving being strapped in a chair with a device that shows you literally 100% of the universe in all its vastness, accompanied by a small arrow saying "YOU ARE HERE". The brain would then shut down simply because of the feeling of insignificance. Didn't work on Zaphod though, all the experience told him was how awesome he is.

The bomb leaves the aircraft in an arc, carrying its momentum forward until it starts dropping. If the laser is active before the bomb is out of this first glide it'll try to "cut a corner" and take a path straight to the target by entering a very steep angle. As it doesn't have wings it'll start dropping faster than it's going forward untill it stalls and falls short. There was a very good picture illustrating this floating around a while back but I can't find it. If you don't get the idea I can make a new one but I'm limited to Paint so it wouldn't even be medium quality :P

Wich is a good CMS program forcountermeasures?
Depth replied to LcSummers's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
So will auto mode be triggered by your own AIM-9s? -
God knows I've been at DCS for too long when the first thought that hit me was Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwnnn :joystick:

Lies. To be a TRUE gamer you need Modern Warfare 3 mouse and keyboard, Modern Warfare 3 sunglasses, Modern Warfare 3 clothes, Modern Warfare 3 headset, and of course you'll need the Modern Warfare 3 JEEP. I like MW3 because it's kind of a simulation of exactly how war and real life combat plays out. So you can prepare for real situations by knowing which kind of benches are bulletproof and which kind of brick buildings aren't. So you know what to hide behind to heal up when you take a 7.62mm round in the chest.
-
Nope, hardcore gamers all know that "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 won't be fun if your monitor doesn't provide a crisp image", and the obvious solution to that is a $4800 60 inch 3D LED-LCD screen. BRB, going off to boost RAM.

Memory advantage 8 GIG vs 16 GIG?
Depth replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is true for older chipsets with lower bandwidth. Adding a chip taxed the bus and memory controller and when it recognized another load had been placed (a 2GB or a 8 GB chip has nearly the same load, X amount of channels per chip) it had to compensate by either increase voltage, decrease bus clock or increase the timings of the chip. On THIS chipset the memory controller is designed for it. In order to strain it at all you'd have to task the entire CPU with nothing but memory input/output. And if it's the case that you're running the system on 100% load all day and all night, the added ram will benefit a lot more than it will take away. Won't matter at all outside benchmarks. -
I'm not sure how many lives, wheels, planes or fish were lost in this small project of mine... But here is how you bring 46 thousand pounds of A-10 from 13,000 feet to touchdown in less than two minutes, day and night.
