  1. This internet blackout thing strikes me as odd. It is a protest. The point of a protest is to send a message, but now we are protesting denial of service - by denying service. Isn't this similar to "F**king for Virginity"? Likely I'm just too tired and thinking about this like Karl Pilkington
  2. SSD's are great to keep the operating system on, as well as anything you want to load fast.
  3. Also, challenge accepted. Split-S into landing: Batumi Landing in a hurry.trk
  4. One of your bastard colleagues slipped you laxatives before you headed out? :D
  5. Thanks guys, went alot better. I used ILS and GPS for both landings and I assumed that once my airspeed hit the donut on the airspeed indicator all was well and fine but a little extra made all the difference :smartass: My first try I overshot the field and aborted so I just quit and hit fly again. That meant that it reloaded the lighter loadout and I thought I was flying at 100% weight when in reality I was flying closer to 60%. Didn't notice it until a few feet above ground, very odd experience that I think I hit the ground at less than 100fpm on the heavy landing but I nearly continued off the airstrip haha Batumi Landing Heavy 2.trk Batumi Landing Light 2.trk
  6. Thanks, that was with with a very light load, not a speck of ammunition and about 40% fuel I think Made another one, this time with 100% weight on the aircraft. Touchdown was way too hard and I bounced. What is the desired vertical velocity for touchdown and what's the best way to achieve this? Steeper flare or more thrust? Batumi Landing Heavy.trk
  7. A bit more on-topic, I just made a quick mission to land at Batumi and it went much smoother with the airbrakes. I used to only use wheelbrakes to slow the plane not giving airbrakes much thought. But I'd like some comment anyway, is there anything I should do different? I don't have rudder pedals or a trackIR so it might look a little clunky when I taxi or look around :P Batumi Landing.trk
  8. I would like to see the track...
  9. Haha this happened to me on my last mission, was in external view listening to the awesome sound of my last engine spooling down when all of a sudden my nosewheel got replaced by another aircraft  I was quick to end the mission when I heard a faint burning noise :music_whistling: Got some negative score for having damaged a friendly
  10. You touchdown half way down the runway at 175 knots with NWS then slam the brakes?
  11. There is not much use for that much unless you're planning on using a RAM Drive or some heavy video rendering. I'd say go with two 4GB modules so you have room to expand.
  12. "Golf Golf 362198" "Readback correct, standby data" "Ok, just need to punch this into the CDU real quick..."
  13. Was a good read, this. Made me appretiate the JTACs in the sim a lot more. The book contains photos taken from the deployment zone about one third into the book and watching the actual faces of the guys and the vehicle they used really immersed me into it :book: Now we just need a Bommer mod so we can talk crap for hours with the JTAC about Sticky and Upside-Down-Beard  1. Check-in 15 min 2. Check-in 30 min 3. Check-in 45 min 4. Check-in 60 min 5. Talk shite
  14. Crashwell if you hold down one of the trim buttons, does the plane bank or pitch in that direction? You also need to maintain a constant input for the trim while flying. Setting trim changes the aerodynamic profile and once an outside force also changes (A shift in weight from dropping ordnance or a change in airspeed), the plane will react according to its profile. For example: Fly at 200 KIAS, perfectly level with a perfect trim. Increase thrust. Once the speed increases the plane will nose up to bring the speed back down to the profile of 200 KIAS. So trim it again at 250 KIAS in level flight and once you reduce throttle the plane will nose down to maintain 250 KIAS. If take-off trim is set the plane will usually go into a too steep climb to recover from by itself once the speed reduces like you describe. Hope this made sense :)
  15. Tragic. Schettino has had so many years of everything running smoothly that he buckles in an emergency. Seemed fairly shocked from the transcript and I'm hearing he's being charged with manslaughter I work in the north sea on a hook-up project (installing new oilrig) and have accepted to be a coxswain on the free-fall lifeboats. Capacity is 67 per boat including me and 2 other crews. I was nervous (and nobody is ever truly ready for the real thing) during the first few simulations we have but I can never imagine suddenly having a cruiseships worth of passengers to save. Simulations with this scale with actual people is unfortunately near impossible and you can't really blame the captain for being human. Nobody can say how they will react in an emergency situation and my heart goes out to those lost in this tragedy
  16. I just thought it would be more fair to dogfight over the carrier, those migs don't stand a chance now
  17. Something similar to this? Only 2 air-to-air missiles on your hog though (unless you ditch the jammer), so you have to take out most of the migs with the cannon.
  18. What gives?
  19. I've got an i7-940 at 3.1 GHZ, a 1.5GB GTX 580 and 12 GB RAM with all settings to maximum and I'm getting 56 FPS at level flight but I've never seen it go under 40. Goes even higher in external view, what are we doing different?
  20. You've got abundant flares and chaff and each one you release during a missile launch increases your chances.
  21. Use the night vision goggles, Right shift + H by default I believe. You might also want to set the HUD to night mode by means of the little switch underneath the TGP arm and Lase arm switches
  22. Or you can pull the MASTER CAUT fuse and watch all your worries disappear.
  23. A Russian submarine hit a Norwegian oil rig some years back, nobody got hurt and the damage was repaired but the captain shot himself after returning to shore.
  24. Is DCS 64bit only?
  25. Yeah it's new to the 1.1.1.1 patch.
