Working on something more general purpose that will hopefully benefit the community (and others) at large.

Connect a PS/2 keyboard to your CDU with an Arduino and DCS-BIOS
98abaile replied to FSFIan's topic in Home Cockpits
Thanks. Would this work? I'll look into scan codes, but it's the logic that's most important now. Since I'm trying to emulate a game controller, the behaviour I'm looking for is that the joystick button is held down as long as the key is pressed, and released when the key is lifted (I'm guessing scan codes might be better for this as well). -

I want to get my idea to work precisely because I (and I suspect many many others) don't want to physically create a button box. I want to be able to solder 5 wires, flash the teensy, stuff it into a tictac box and plug in an old keyboard, and I want to enable others to do the same instead of spending $100 and a week of spare time on parts and matrices. I'll be clear: I want to create an easy to build in line device that turns any old PS/2 keybord into a button board. Other solutions are of no interest. The problem is that I don't know how to code short of trying to repurpose someone else's. -
No standalone installer any more?

No. First you need to do it through a command line interface; secondly and most importantly, your phone wouldn't be able to run the updater.exe. -

I've been reading that thread, the problem is it looks like it just remaps keys to other keys, so all it's doing is moving the keys around and adding macros without actually adding more buttons. The macro function is a cool idea but it means that unless the macros have the same function across all aircraft you'd have to remap the keys every time you change aircraft. What I want is a game controller with 104 buttons. -

You can just back up your Eagle Dynamics folder to an external disk. It was a while ago, but if I remember correctly the updater doesn't like to install over old copies if the game isn't already installed properly 9which means the game won't be registered in the registry or appear in the programs list in the start or control panel menus, plus the updater won't work automatically), but I think you can get around it by starting a fresh installation, stopping the torrent shortly after, copying across your back up and then running the updater from the folder (the updater looks for previously installed files before downloading the rest/updated versions). Alternatively, you can just copy your backup folder to it's normal location and manually create a shortcut to your desktop or taskbar; although as I mentioned, I think this prevents the updater working properly so you'll have to update using the procedure in the link I posted above (but I guess you'll have to use that anyway if you are updating the game on a USB stick). -

I'm going to order a teensy 3.1 (https://forum.pjrc.com/threads/23681-Many-axis-joystick?p=41942&viewfull=1#post41942) and I sort of understand how the code you wrote (and from other examples) reads the keyboard input, but how do you then get it to send a button press to the computer? Could I just use for example: if (c == 'q') Joystick.button(1, 1); if (c == 'w') Joystick.button(2, 1); if (c == 'e') Joystick.button(3, 1); etc... Would I need off commands for those joystick buttons or do the buttons swich off when c no longer equals the corresponding key press? If c is a specific key press at any given time, how does this handle multiple keys being pressed or does this not matter? -

I have the same problem where I can't download at home (mostly due to a 25GB per month data limit), luckily I can take a laptop into work. The real problem comes from the fact that my laptop can't run the new 1.5 client. Luckily it took all of about 2 minutes to solve the problem. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 That's what the stickies are there for guys. -

Back to the original post, is there anyway to get this to read the keystrokes and output them as buttons of a generic HID device? In other words, can this be used to make turn a second keyboard into just a generic button board? -
Good job! Have a happy new year, we await 2016 with bated breath.

If this works as good as TIR, I imagine that this will be a real money spinner for hegykc.

Warthog slew control replacement part
98abaile replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you read the thread, he had a problem of trying to make the analogue stick compatible with the digital interface, so the project seems to be on the back burner. -
This is cool. I've always though about doing a mini pit type project.

I have no interest in civilian aviation, although I respect the dedication civ simmers put into their hobby. I wouldn't be have any problem with DCS being expanded to civ aviation if it weremt for the possible knock on effects it would have to combat sim development, but thankfully I think that even if civ aviation were eventually planned, we wouldn't see it for many MANY years until DCS had evolved past what is required for us combat simmers. When you consider that for DCS to become a replacement for FSX/pr3pared/etc, it would need a spherical and continuous globe, much better navigation/radio/ATC facilities, better weather and atmospheric simulation and god knows what else, it will probably be a long time before DCSW is at a stage where it can support that and it's clear that the combat side of things is being developed first. My only concern once we do reach that point would be that ED would be focusing so much on the world that they wouldn't spend as much time on combat aircraft development, but by that time there would be so many third parties that I don't think it would be an issue. We also need to consider the logistics. Right now the core game has to be updated every time a new module is released and every time a module needs to be updated. If DCSW were to be an FSX replacement, due to the way the game updates each module, the core install would be so unwieldy that it'd be impractical. I think we're likely to see a completely new engine and modules being handled differently before DCS civil aviation takes off in any meaningful way or at all. By the time we've got 30 combat modules the core install is going to be so big and the updates either so big or so frequent that something will have to give. I don't know how other sims do it.

F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
98abaile replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sorry to disappoint, but that's likely so. Here is what an F18 gimbal looks like (this might be a mock up, not sure, but the layout is correct): There's no way the stick can feel the same all around a circle if only because the fulcrum is different in each axis. -
Yes, as I understand it, the program basically exports the displays to their own separate windows.

I would buy instantly.

Excellent news. Welcome back.

I would much rather have the Skyraider to be frank.

No it's not. Baker got banned and stopped working on it before it was ported to 1.5. As far as we know it is now on indefinite hold.

Sorry, didn't realise this was an old thread.

Go into the module manager, click on the module and click the install button. It should search for already downloaded files, then search for files to transfer from the release installation, then finally download any missing files. The only difference is that you have to do it individually for each module.

I had this problem with a few of my modules. Go to your store account and check that the modules are actually assigned to your username (do a license key check). Then log in to the beta client and go to the module manager. You should get a pop up that asks if you want to install the new modules, click yes and it will check your beta installation for any downloaded files, then it will check your release installation for any files it can copy across, finally it will download anything it is missing.
