A little update: At first, I need to backtrack a bit on my statement that there is no play. In fact, the pipe assembly wiggles around center a bit, but I will try to take care of it. Second, I cut down 25 cm or so of the pipe and put the whole thing on the original Warthog base. Also; I added screws to the connection of the lower end cap and the pipe. Third, I now have about 10-11 kg of lead in the lower 2/3ds of the pipe. The good thing: It does not move or tip over anymore. The bad thing: It does not move when I want it, because it is on carpet. Shoulda known that :( This needs a solution, maybe I put a flat/narrow rag under it to be able to lift it. So, I am making progress. Tonight will see how I can fly with it as it is now. When I feel it is ok or I have some time, I'll do some more images. Super-

Hi Tailspin, Thanks for your idea! Yesterday I built my version of this design. In this thread I already discussed it and linked some images of mine. BTW, mine has no play from the beginning. Edit: I cannot give rep to these posts...?? Again, thanks!

Here are some images I took and placed on Picasa. The assembly has absolutely no play when it is properly smushed. The joystick is screwed to one blind cap, the other material is a 50 cm sewage pipe with a "connector element" and another blind plug. The diameter of all the parts is 110 millimeters. The pipe doe snot fit to the base, but the cap perfectly takes care of this. I took an image of my template I used to get the four holes into the cap. It was traced from the Warthog base, the middle of it marked by the lines that connect the holes and with the help of a hole I punched there I aligned it in the center of the plug (as indicated in the image). You want to repeat this for the other end cap to srew it to your floor board, as Tailspin45 did. I left it out because I cannot do this here, but now I need to ballast it to be able to use it. Edit: Oh and yeah, I still have to cut that long pipe down, I will shorten it by about 30 cm. Have fun! Super-

I yesterday finished mine. This is the original design by Tailspin45. I need to re-read the post there to see if I made any changes to it and I'll post them here. Edit: Mine looks a bit different, so I did modify it a bit. I'll post some pics when I have time.

"How come?" - "shhhh^^" :D @all: Only thing that requires a bit getting used to is the timezones, but that is no different than here in the forums. I sometimes have the impression that I should wait 24 hours before I check for answers the first time to allow for all timezones to rotate through their specific times of activity... :megalol: Super-

Inside view of TM HOTAS Warthog
Supersheep replied to Frazer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Do you simply cut the length you think is excessive off? Nothing else to it? I find it hilarious to cut away parts of this $$$ piece :D Report back please, maybe I want do do this as well (inna distant future..) Super- -
Hehe - already a "welcome!" from me:) Forum should be ok as of now (I just posted there..). Super-

I have not touched the campaigns yet, but the Editor and the Multiplayer should keep you rolling for a looong time. Joining a group to fly with is not as daunting as it sounds (as I learned myself), there are groups for all tastes around. And someone once said "[firing that gun] never gets old...". Right on. A suggestion for 'improving' toggle switches in the 3D cockpit
Supersheep replied to Crescendo's topic in DCS Wishlist
Another suggestion to minimize the impact of this improvemet: Modify the tooltips over switches to avoid confusion. These can then be turned per default on so everyone knows about it, and those who turn them off are likely to keep this feature in mind anyway. Great bump, Frostiken! Super- -
Offloading physics calculations to GPU?
Supersheep replied to Hunt3r.j2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi! Most of these PhysiX-enabled things and other GPU-calculated physical widgets are just optical stuff like clutter flying around and things breaking. This is done directly and finally on a GPU after the stuff behind the rendering of the frame is already done. It has no impact on gameplay or the game mechanics. Now, if you calculate some intricate ballistics or flight models on a GPU, you have to allocate some time for the CPU to get the data set for a frame, need to get this to the GPU, perform that calculations, get the stuff back to the CPU, calculate what should be in the frame, like geometry, and move this again to the GPU. This then renders the frame from the stuff the CPU provides directly today. See where I am going? For us (and me too!) these transfers seem trivial, but they add some serious latency. You need to do this for every frame, 30-60 times a second, with all the data. You would need a method to make physics get out of the way of this. Again, mind you, I am in no way an expert on this, but that is my understanding of how stuff works in ths perspective. Super- -
@Andyfoot: Here you go. Super-

That is a good one, Grimes. Again, Thanks! Super-

That is still better than my way of doing this. Thank you! Super-

Hi! As I learn many editor things from missions already out there, I regularly need to unhide a lot of units/groups. Can this be done for all units directly, e. g. in the unit list? Thanks! Super-

Is the horizontal bezel not/less distracting? Your setup is very interesting, but it looks like a bezel, it feels like a bezel, wait, it still is a bezel... Super-

While you are completely correct, I think that mixing with cold air doe snot only cancel out the differences in RH, but also in °C and therefore, to a point, the sense of pulling off this stunt in the first place. :D:D (The whole topic is not too serious:D) Super-

This warmed air is most likely very dry. When you are exposed to this, your eyes and respiratory system will thank you :) Try it out and hold your face next to your PC's power supply unit for a few moments. Just to keep in mind... Super-

While I cannot do any form of dogfight myself, you do not want to be at the business end of that gun :) As long as you watch your energy and position to the enemy, I think the A10 is a real thread. At least in a dogfight, BVR thats a little bit different. If you want to learn about this, look into paulrkiii's cmobined document that is somewhere around here. Great resource! Super- Edit @above: IIRC, you can also use DMS right short to set different aircrafts as reference with A2A mode and HUD as SOI..

That is the segment at 7:00: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzR9av3VUNA&feature=related#t=7m00s Ah jep, those two lines are used for killing air targets with the gun and works like this on multiple aricraft. F-16 and A-10 for example do it like this. You get that when you hold your Master mode button for 1-2 seconds. Then you select the wingspan of the target (or the aircraft you are fighting) and then maneuver into the targets' plane of motion. Then you pull G's so that the wings just fit between the two lines. Now, pull the trigger. Super-
-
Or to a fan that will move the air away from the case. You could even simulate the change of the pitch of the engine sound that way :) Super-
-
Sorry, which video? A wild guess: Do you mean the pair of lines that move especially when you pull some G's? Those show where your target needs to be to be hit by the 30mm and is in relation to the wingspan of the unhappy other. Super-
-
Thanks guys, this will make things more efficient for me. :pilotfly: Super-
