  1. I know I can (and want), but may I? :P Super-
  2. Do I need to get eyes (plus NVGs) on target before I can engage them or is it ok to use the TGP and CCRP my target without ever seeing it? AlphaOneSix: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=610050&postcount=7 GGTharos: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=701251&postcount=14 (more related to bino use, though...) Super-
  3. Hi! I'm throwing the FSF into the discussion. We mainly play DCS, now including FC3, and are a mostly US/EU group. Our sessions begin in the 2100 GMT ballpark, but we're flexible because we don't have fixed dates but rather announce flights a day or three ahead. Casual group, no requirements, possibility to learn whatever you want from our members: About us Super- FSF Member
  4. It's not hard to get into a community that passwords its servers. The ones that I know welcome new players, and I guess it's the same for all the other ones if you're friendly. There's reasons why we use to have our servers closed. But if you ask... :) Super- (FSF - http://www.flight-sim-fanatics.com member)
  5. I usually have this problem with my left engine after a repair (right will start ok). It spins, but the fuel flow gauge says there's nex tto no fuel coming in (as opposed to the right engine if it is in idle). Now, I can try again with what's in this thread. Super-
  6. The MX Switches are nice, but the Black Widow is not what you'd expect. About a month ago, I thought about getting one myself, but it seems that its lack of build quality can lead to keys getting stuck (physically) and it doesn't have the feel of a DAS (can't comment, never had a DAS under my hands myself.). If you want a mechanic board, the QPads are said to be worth a look (never had one of those under my hands, either) Super-
  7. I wanted to ask this question ever since I visited the Prague National Museum about a year ago and looked at the Aero L-39 that's on exhibition there. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take a picture of it (would have had to buy a permission...), but on the left nose section of the plane, there was a small "container", sized like a can of beer, maybe smaller, attached to the skin. It was marked with a Danger, Radioactivity sign. Judging from images I found on the web, only some of the aircraft carry this piece. Do you know what this tool is good for? The museum attendant couldn't tell me :( Thanks for your insight! Super- (Zoom into both images, if needed) In this image, the container can be seen in front of the opened access door (and under the small open cover). There's something that looks like a "remove before flight"- ribbon on it. And here you can see it again, in front of the nose wheel, with the label on the brighter paint.
  8. I had my hands on four units by now (one RMA, two in retail and mine that's sitting here) and all show some play on the airbrake switch, especially in the center position. Same for china hat and some others. The center play of the stick is due to the way it is constructed. If you look into the "Greasing up the Warthog"-thread, you'll see images that explain it better than I could here. Super-
  9. As Megagoth1702 said, the sessions we (FSF) do are usually passworded (to keep random out and get people on Teamspeak). But you can get it by simply registering at http://www.flight-sim-fanatics.com (free, no time commitment). Super-
  10. I'd say start with Wags autochthonous profile and when you are used to TIR, you can build your own without confusing yourself. IMHO, there's no profile that will fit your idea just right. Super-
  11. A honest Thank you! from me as well. Super-
  12. Here's a video about the procedure I made a few weeks ago, it also shows how accurate the method can be. I didn't use the HSI at all (would have been way easier), but worked all the numbers in my head... And sorry for 362100, brainfart :D On the FSF forums, we discussed different flight patterns than a quarter-circle around the max radar range like the one I performed (putting the radar on my 3 o'clock two times) and found multiple variations, each being useful in its way. Why haven't I seen this thread earlier? That would have saved me so much time figuring out how to do it. Below, I put some comments into your good description. Super-
  13. Log in the usual way, write it down, restart DCS and to it the workaround-way. And, maybe, focus on the few dedicated servers out there :smartass: Super-
  14. Judging from the port number, that's the DCS server IP for people who want to/have to connect directly to the server because of this 1.2.0 connection issue. Super-
  15. @KLR Rico I'm not planning to implement a ramdisk myself anytime soon, but which of the many ramsdisk programs do you use? Can it mount a ramdisk directly at system startup? I have an SSD, I guess I could have it loaded in a minute and I need more time than that checking my mail, the boards and Skype ;) Super-
  16. This thread is off-topic already, so here I go: I ordered stuff from Hardwareversand.de myself already and can recommend the shop, but be aware that they might not assemble those BIG heat sinks (like the Thermalright HR-01 Macho) because of the stress those add to the parts during shipping. With the mentioned cooler, this means that you need to disassemble the system yourself to mount it anyways, so you can go with only the parts just as well (Edit: this simplified statement ignores return policy and warranty regulations..). Super-
  17. There's threads around that have like 40k+ screens. I wouldn't have the patience to motor up there at all ;) Super-
  18. As it might help other people as well, here are my findings: Yesterday, I had a server open with four players (including me), that generated 6 MB traffic over 45 minutes. Included is the Teamspeak chatter. This gives an average of 18.x kbit/s, so I guess that peak traffic for the session should be well below 40 kbit/s, in line with the posts linked above and even lower when not hosting the session (as per the OP). Thanks, EtherealN (nomen est omen? You should change that to Wireshark :P) Super-
  19. I just learned that the C-17 is equipped with zero/zero ejection seats in DCS. Is this correct? Put an idle one on the ramp, make it suffer some harm (:music_whistling:) and see. Super-
  20. Addendum: I'm a bit relieved after reading post #4 here. Since Krebs ran the server, the clients should see even less traffic, I guess. In the future, I will be using a shared Internet connection with low upload bandwidth. My question is, how much bandwidth does DCS require (about 8 players) on my client end (no server)? I cannot have DCS jam the line, because it effectively keeps everyone else out of the net. In this (old) thread I've read about figues as low as single-digit kb/s. How can I do my own measurement during a MP session? Thank you, Super-
  21. The very first thing I did after I installed my TIR is to bing up the software, put that clip hat onto my cap and was astonished by how accurate the thing is, especially in returning to center (not centering-button). I will not forget that one. Super out.
  22. Large number, slow slew. Correct Cookie. That is why I set it to 1 during almost every startup. Super-
  23. Sorry, off-topic a bit: I disagree. The reason is that there's a perfect feedback loop. While you do over-control, you see the error and can immediately correct it. If not and it proves uncontrollabe, the curves are wrong and can be flexibly tweaked in the NP software. Personally, I use a small deadzone to relax my neck, "acceleration flanks" and max sensitivity of 10 (units of whatever) in the NP software (with this hatclip), making it look like -v- (sorry, don't want to create a graphic for this now, you get the point) in the menu. I don't do a bit of maths to move my head, only keep the curve from the NP software in mind. It isn't that one should have to think about how to move the head to shift the view. Super-
  24. Jammer on = DMS in (press whole hat down, not the funtion down like on the TMS). Super-
