  1. An eight core CPU will work far better with other games than DCS due to the very limited use of other cores. That may be a factor.
  2. From my experience: I was surprised to find the sim had 'take-off assistance' on by default. I found my first few flights really easy. After switching it off, I constantly crashed. The next day I did two things to resolve this: 1) I increased the tension on my pedals to max (I usually fly helos so I had them on the softest setting). 2) I added a small deadzone and created curves within DCS. The small deadzone was due to my pedals not centering accurately by themselves, and the curves mean I have a lot finer control over my rudder for the earlier states. I am still not great at taking off, but I get off the ground most of the time now. One other thing I do, if I find myself rolling off to the right (which happens quite often) I add a lot more throttle and this tends to counter it out quite well. Also, remembering to hold the stick back to lock the tail wheel until the plane starts to nose down a little works well for me.
  3. Interesting discussion here. Can we please make sure to clarify stories against AI and stories against players. AI damage in DCS is known to be a huge problem in general, not just in the Sabre. I'm guessing the damage model is somewhat similar to ground units, you need to do x amount of damage before a part breaks. The .50 rounds are doing small amounts of damage to multiple systems, but not enough to destroy anything. Ideally, each system would have degrees of damage and related effects. This is all a guess. The part about .50 accuracy due to barrel heating is also very interesting. I would love to see concrete details on this. There are tons of enthusiasts here who might be interested in looking into this.
  4. I'm on TrackIR and it's a nightmare trying to spot things even with zoom. I have no problem with having this as a server option for those that want it, but I'd never play on that server. My visibility would be down to around 500m.
  5. Terrible idea. Removing an existing free airframe would anger all the people who enjoy it. ED have far better things to work on.
  6. I haven't flown for a while, unfortuanately. Perhaps someone else?
  7. Only 250, but what fun we will have while it lasts.
  8. What happens if your start up again? Maybe it stops reading when it is off.
  9. Maybe I've missed someone already pointing this out, but they are used for very different situations from my limited understanding. The A-10 is used once you have attained air superiority and there are limited threats from AA / AAA. It's perfect for close air support. If you control the area, the A-10 is a much more effective choice. It can loiter and support ground units and carries an amazing payload. The F/A-18 cannot compete here. The Hornet can still be used in hostile environments due to it's speed, weapons, and ECM. The A-10 is useless in these situations unless you want your friends to practice SAR. So it's not just which is more fun to fly, but which matches the mission. Fun is subjective and you will never reach agreement on this. Some people love driving trains along straight tracks for 12 hours straight. Others prefer Pokemon-GO... It really doesn't matter what you prefer, just do what you enjoy! You're free to fly A-10 missions in hostile environments and respawn every few minutes if that is what you enjoy. You could also use the F/A-18 to do A-10 missions less efficiently - maybe there are no A-10 left as they have all been destroyed before you managed to claim the airspace.
  10. Beers are on Skate when 2.5 gets released! Party!
  11. That would be fantastic. Thank you for the reply, SiTh.
  12. Any chance of syncing Steam and standalone with this release? I don't mind paying a little more for modules on Steam, but being behind puts me off buying anything else in the future.
  13. I have to disagree with a lot of people here; the Mi-8 is easy to land once you are used to it. It's not easy to learn, but all you have to do is trim with a slow descent and you can almost let go of the stick and let it land itself. The key is not reacting, but instead planning. Do everything very slowly and carefully. No quick or dramatic changes. Try it on a keyboard and you will see how stable it is.
  14. Agreed. Zoom is essential for DCS - even just reading cockpit dials requires it. Are we supposed to be simulating shortsighted pilots? I have no problems with have a server locked as no zoom, but I would never play there.
  15. Interesting reading. Makes me want to fly DCS WWII birds again.
  16. Maybe huey with AI gunners?
  17. None right now.
  18. I would like to see third party FC3 level. Leave it to servers to decide if they want them or not.
  19. It's a real shame ED doesn't do more to push its product n Steam. Fragmenting the community like this is no good for anyone. People who want to use standalone will, but forcing Steam users to move over to inferior download speeds and away from their platform of choice seems very shortsighted. This is the one of the main reason I'm not playing DCS so much anymore. I can't access the latest modules or scenarios. It would be great to see ED take advantage of things like Steam Workshop for third-party mods, but this will probably never happen. Maybe with 2.0?... I can only hope.
  20. I was hoping to join, but I run JST to that works out to 4am, which is about time for bed for me.
  21. Perfect. I mostly fly full sim modules, so I can help out with that.
  22. I'm pretty awful. I won't be able to join until Friday, but if you still need people to create nice wrecks, I'd like to help out.
  23. Does it matter if we are terrible with a2a or do you need Tom Cruise?
  24. Is anyone not running an SSD is a better question.
  25. Thanks, Flight. Actually, that's exactly the example that I looked at with this. I just need a good amount of time to look over what MOOSE is doing here. Thank you for all the help and support so far. I really appreciate it.
