I remember discussions about working cable cutters on helos. You may want to search for that topic.

    Quick question

  5. 17 - 23km for dc3 sized ac IF you know where it should be in the sky, according to https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2680596/#!po=0.340136. "Howell [5] carried out a field study in which pilots attempted to detect another aircraft (DC-3) approaching on a collision course. Over various conditions, the average distance at which detection by the pilot occurred (“detection distance”) was from 5.5 to 8.7 km. Of greater relevance to this study, the subject aircraft also carried an experimenter who knew exactly the approach angle of the target aircraft, and “kept constant vigil with his naked eye” until he detected the intruder aircraft. This “threshold distance”, over the same conditions, averaged from 17.3 to 23 km, about three times larger than the detection distance. We will return to these results later in this paper. Analyzing these data, Graham and Orr concluded that see and avoid failures were due primarily to failure to detect the target [1]. No attempt was made to predict aircraft visibility."
  6. This post in the MiG-15 forums may be of interest. You're not alone.
  7. You can do this with a script.
  8. 34 inch 22:9 4k curved screens seem like a good solution. If only I could afford one.
  9. Some good advice here. I'll have to try this next weekend once the working week is through. I must say, the. MiG-15 is a lot of fun to fly. The 37mm cannon is a beast.
  10. I'm having a lot of trouble following the enemy in the sky. I set up a mission where I start 8km up in a squad of four MiG-15s (expert AI) trailing 1km behind two Sabres (lowest AI) fully armed. I assumed that they would die really quickly, but they can often take out some of the MiGs. If I can keep one in sight and zoomed, I can get some hits if I can keep my jet from crashing. The problem is, once I lose sight, even for a second, I can never find them again. They are painted full silver, so I expected it to be really easy with bright reflections, but even 1km way, I have to zoom in to the maximum to find them. It takes forever. I'm fighting over the sea, which makes things harder. I have TrackIR, HOTAS, pedals, and a decent monitor, but I am finding that 99% of my focus is on trying to spot my target. Having no peripheral vision is a huge disadvantage. When zoomed in, you can only see a tiny portion of the sky. My non-real-world-experience-based guess tells me that this can't be realistic. Any hints on what I can do? I hate labels. I've tried the model enlargenent option, but that sometimes makes it even worse in some ways as the colors change at different ranges. The AI never lose sight of me, even at the lowest level. Am I the only one with this problem?
  11. Why stop at RWS, lets add a stealth upgrade that that makes it totally invisible to radar.
  12. I put that down to the SAS and the other AP channels, but I have no experience. I'd love to see more critisism from former military pilots who have experience with this version of the Gazelle.
  13. Mi-8 because it's big, Russian, and the three people in the cockpit can enjoy witty conversation during the flight.
  14. Haha.
  15. Also, try to join large multiplayer server and ask in chat. I often find people who want to team up that way. Best way to make new dcs buddies.
  16. Pipok, we don't want it. Perhaps an option that will allow you to use it single player as an unrealistic option would be nice, but a it stands, this is a limitation of the Ka-50.
  17. Great tool for night missions when flying with other Ka-50s. If only the AI knew to run from the light.
  18. I'm probably doing it wrong, but a hundred or so hours in the Mi-8 gave me pretty good feel for predicting helicoptor reactions. I manage to go from movement into a hover fairly quickly at lower altitudes just using visual reference and the dial that tells me how much height I'm losing or gaining. I slow, and increase collective when I know my power won't be enough to keep me in the air. At higher altitudes, I have to rely completely on dials as you can't see how much you are moving around. This takes me a while to get into a hover, but I very rarely need to do this. Prediction is key.
  19. No we can't. The zoom feature in DCS is there to make up for the inadequacies of viewing the world through a tiny monitor at low resolution - something it barely manages. It's still extremely difficult to see targets. Proper binoculars should be added, especially for helicopters.
  20. Nice reply. Is there a mission that teaches this?
  21. A lot of people enjoy hitting ground targets. We have a lot of airframes dedicated to this task. Killing vehicles and infantry should be hugely satisfying, but it really isn't. Units are dead or alive. There is no system damage: loss of optics, detracking, weapon loss, fuel leaks, ammo explosions. A 99% damaged tank performs exactly the same as a 0%er. Infantry don't get injured, lose moral, panic, hide, run, or even get stunned. The above make any multi-hit weapon tedious to employ. Straffing a tank with 30mm rounds just slowly ticks down its health bar. Bombing inf either kills them or has no visible effect. Launching a barrage of rockets against IFVs just makes them pull over to the side of the road for a bit. What we really need are more events. Unique situations bought about by these attacks. I want to see more damage and more of a reaction. I want to knock out targets without killing them completly. This would make it much more satisfying.
  22. If only we had an Mi-8... Oh wait!
  23. Infantry. Rockets are perfect for attacking closely packed infantry, especially when dug in or in light building. However, dcs does a really bad job here and doesnt really model infantry tactics, supression, injuries, or fragmentation damage. Maybe one day.
  24. It's all just time. Practice slowly with brakes off and no wins. Try to increase throttle without moving. Every time you move, lower and start again.

    Bombing - tips

It's funny, I remember doing a ww2 mission with some friends and managing a perfect bombing run with one of the German planes. I must have just been really lucky.
