  1. With the new armament options and so on I'd even say the Mi-8 is much more interesting now. It sure makes me want to fly it again. It is versatile, like the Huey. And I think that's something the Mi-26 lacks. It is really only a transport. EDIT: So if a proper logistics system is implemented it could be kinda useful, because it can carry a lot. But that's about it.
  2. Thank you, sir! :)
  3. Doesn't the SH-37 use another, specialized version of the radar?
  4. I still think that reusability of assets from existing LN planes could be a factor for new planes. A MiG-23 (for example) of a certain vintage could re-use loads of stuff from the MiG-21. If those are re-usable that is. The MiG-21 was LN's first project, maybe the software isn't quite up to the standards that allow to port parts of it easily.
  5. Yeah, the effects look awesome. I love the colored reflections of the warning lights and the screen. @radar discussion: Well, to be fair if they post it we don't _quite_ know how it should look like, perhaps only that it is supposed to be 'worse' than a much newer radar like in the Hornet radar picture. So yeah, while I'd like to see more Viggen radar screen pictures (like everyone else) I would also need some more material about that particular radar (or at least similar radars) in real life.
  6. Yeah, not quite, with grainy I meant not only pixelated but a lot of bright returns where no objects of interest are, and a lot of small-ish shadows that look light dark spots. So, like a lot of grains lying around, allowing to recognize coast lines by their shape. And you can either turn the contrast up high, losing the shapes, or you can turn it down to see the shapes better, but then you can't distinguish small contacts as well. But basically @il_corleone's photoshop doesn't look too bad as a starting point for what I would expect. Perhaps a _tad_ too blurry.
  7. About that radar... Same impression here as @Pocket_Sized, I have seen a few radar pictures in my life and that one - as great as it looks - instantly made me wonder: Does it display a stored map and overlay some radar echoes over that? That's a radar from the 60s, maybe upgraded at a later point (I don't know), my initial reaction was "NO WAY" because even radars developed 20 years later look more... grainy. Maybe the video doesn't show it (I'll have to see once the Viggen is released, the radar display in the video is small so it might look different) or I miss an important detail, but I had expected something way more grainy. EDIT: Especially from low altitude like in the video. Radar shadows make the picture even worse there, even on rather new radars. @il_corleone posted a good example, that was taken from medium or high altitude, so you can actually see all those details and don't have many shadows. EDIT2: It _might_ work with a rather flat coast though, even on low level. So I am not saying it can't be correct, it just looks very different from what I expected.
  8. That's pretty much exactly what I meant. If the cable snaps late it is pretty bad, and in many cases causes the loss of the aircraft.
  9. I don't know the exact number. But I am pretty sure we could find some numbers about that somewhere. A few times every cruise I guess. Most of the time nothing too bad happens. But there were also some spectacular cases in the past.

    New Banner

It is easy for you to say that in sunny Carolina! :D Where I live it sure feels like winter already, and I bet in Russia it looks the same way. :D :D (but yeah, technically we still have two weeks of fall)
  11. Depending on at which point the wire snaps they won't be able to takeoff again. Happens on american carriers as well now and then.

    New Banner

It changes with the seasons and has been doing that for a while. Also LOL @dtfin :D
  13. What kind of SAMs are you talking about? - Radar SAMS: Stay out of there if possible and let SEAD do the work. - MANPADS, Strelas, Tunguskas: Fly 12,000ft AGL if possible, that makes them unlikely to hit you. Hit vehicles with Mavericks or cluster bombs. Drop flares every 1-2 seconds when attacking low.
  14. Good question. Apart from being "another transport heli, a big one though" I think it would be pretty useless. I can't imagine it being too interesting for most people. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun for some of our rotorheads to fly, but yeah, in the big picture I agree, it isn't too exciting.
  15. I am not sure if that is right. IIRC they said they will use a middleware to design the Bo-105's FM but not the one for the Gazelle. I might be wrong though.
  16. I also have entered VRS a few times in the Gazelle (The DCS Gazelle that is). I usually managed to leave it by moving out of the vertex laterally.
  17. I like what I see so far. :)
  18. Good luck, man! Every plane in DCSW is great. It is so sad that many of those projects are cancelled.
  19. HELL YEAH!
  20. Same here. Most of the time it works flawlessly, but in extreme positions it sometimes doesn't. I would still like to have that same option as the VR mode and try if it works for me. It might.

    I-16

Just saw an old YT video from when I was at the Hahnweide air show 2009 and watched the I-16, and that reminded me of this project again. In case someone is interested, it was this one: I wonder if the I-16 is waiting for something that will come with 2.5 (although I can't imagine what that could be) and that causes a delay, or if we maybe have a chance to see it in 2016. That would be pretty awesome actually! So, @Plexus: Any news on the project that you would like to share? :)
  22. Couldn't try it out myself yet, but for anyone who did here's a question: Do lights like the UH-1's search light or the M-2000C's landing light now light up water? With ED working on all that light stuff I just don't want to believe they are doing shining eye-candy and missing out on the important gameplay features again. So anyone who can confirm that works now? EDIT: I noticed this post reads more negative than it is. I like that they expanded the map and I like what I see on most screenshots. But y'all know I am the Gameplay Guy and I want to see gameplay features advancing, which is why I am asking. :)
  23. Nice progress! Oh, btw, any news about the EFM?
  24. I am also right handed but I have gotten used to using a mouse with my left hand, and that's how I click stuff. Perhaps not as quickly as some guys, and not as quickly as with my right hand, but fast and precise enough to flick switches in DCS.
  25. Yandex translate: "the remake will be ?" I think you want to know whether it is still in development? I hope so, I want that in the game! :)
