Low-poly Tornado for Tacview: first 3D model
Aginor replied to Gliptal's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
I _think_ I would prefer one that doesn't have the wings sweeped that far, that would make it easier to distinguish from other jets when it is displayed as a small icon. Nice work though! I tried blender a looong time ago, and this is already at the stage I maxed out concerning my blender skills. :) -
Colliding with own bombs during a divebombing attack, bug?
Aginor replied to Spacehamster's topic in DCS 2.9
Ehh...no. We have talked about that before, and not only once. -
Colliding with own bombs during a divebombing attack, bug?
Aginor replied to Spacehamster's topic in DCS 2.9
Ok, so can we just sum up this thread by saying: 1. YES, the bombs passing through the plane is of course an error. 2. NO, the OP getting himself killed with that drop is NOT an error but correct, and his fault. 3. The bombs should normally not explode. The plane might though. -

I also can't watch the track right now unfortunately. Maybe later when I am at home. What was your speed? If you were close to supersonic I can imagine strange things could happen. And of course pulling the stick is OK, just don't push. -
I love those cruisers. They look big and mean. Btw, that's the Baku, later renamed Admiral Gorshkov, now known as the INS Vikramaditya.

That whole forums section was closed, not only your thread (I think it was open before, not 100% though). They made that split to clean the forums of old stuff from previous versions. EDIT @ topic: I can imagine some of them could be fun. But I honestly think most people would disagree. The map sizes don't allow for realistic gameplay, and many of the big ones are non-combat planes that aren'T conisdered that much fun in DCSW. An AC-130 _could_ be fun, but I am not even sure. Firing at targets you often don't see, in the middle of the night, flying circles for hours. Doesn't sound too exciting for me.

[REPORTED]A10-C: no flares sound in cockpit
Aginor replied to GurbY's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
...I wonder if that isn't actually more realistic. I mean: Is a pilot able to hear those sounds in real life? Over the sound of the engines, through his helmet? If yes those things are frikkin' loud! I doubt they are though. That is probably the reason why in some planes Betty announces dropping them by saying "CHAFF" or "FLARE" aloud. So maybe the bug should be "sound of chaff still audible in cockpit". -
Yeah, indeed! While I am generally not a huge fan of the props (I prefer modern planes) this one is kinda exciting. Just such a fun plane, even though it might not be appealing to the WWII dogfighting fans because it is significantly older than the other planes.

I also never played Flanker, but LOMAC was great.
-
The interesting thing about 2D cockpits vs. 3D cockpits was their readability. I remember there was a 3D cockpit in stock Falcon 4.0, and nobody used it except for dogfighting, because it was blurry and ugly. The 2D one looked much more accurate and was better readable (and clickable!). Same for the MS Combat Flight Simulator IIRC. EDIT: Oh, and of course performance also was an important factor. Nowadays - even without VR - there is no reason why one should choose a 2D cockpit over a 3D one I think. The last games frequently using 2D cockpits are sims like FSX I think. But back then a 2D cockpit that looked nice (like in LOMAC or F4.0) was state of the art. Especially for jets with their loads of instruments. For Props you could go 3D much easier.

Track replay is bugged...
Aginor replied to Aries's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Yes, still buggy. Sometimes they work, mainly for simple or short missions. -
Yeah, the forums I moderate aren't frequented as much as this one, but I also had my fair share of spammers to ban. Really annoying. I wish that this would happen: https://xkcd.com/810/

I wonder if there will be an update/news post today and if yes: If there will be something awesome in it. EDIT: And no, Video/Screenshot contests and "Bonus sales" don't count.

Actually I think ANY direction would be great for a possible future expansion. Crimea is nice, and so is Chechnya to the northeast. To the south and southeast we have Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and a bit further southeast there is Iran. Lots of interesting areas, both geopolitically and geographically. But honestly: I understand everyone who wants to put the focus elsewhere. We have been in the Caucasus for a looong time now.
-
A lot of my COIN missions are located in these areas, too.
-
And I missed all of them? Dammit. Football is cool. :D
-
There is also a display with engine data IIRC.

Can't force traffic to OFF in MP
Aginor replied to BaD CrC's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Confirm. Last I checked it happened to me in SP as well. -
Yeah, such things happen. Blame Aviation Karma. :)

Hey y'all! Not sure if this is Leatherneck's problem or ED's (or, *GASP* it is just me) but I noticed that the R-3R missiles look very ugly ingame, both the model and textures, and I haven't seen that reported yet (I searched for R-3R, MiG-21, missile, model) both here and in Leatherneck's bug tracker. The model looks like it was from the LOMAC days, and it has a grey texture. I can post pictures when I am home if you like. I already tried the repair function with all mods deactivated, to make sure it isn't a mod that interferes with it, and I have no missile mods installed (or any texture mods really). As far as I can tell it is reproduceable every time, with AI MiG-21 or player-controlled MiG-21. It also applies to the R-3S missile IIRC, and it isn't new. I just didn't report it earlier because I thought it was pretty minor and likely to be fixed in one of the most recent patches. Can anybody reproduce that bug?

That's a pretty good advice. For me it means stopping when the headache starts, BEFORE I get sick. That also allows you to resume playing earlier, and thus have more play time to get rid of the effects.
-
Yeah, back then the pilots in the GDR just learned Russian. :)

Both the fan and the ginger are things that actually help. I used both ginger ale and ginger tea and a fan to get over my TrackIR sickness back in the days.

Well, I wouldn't say this is about 'needing' something. It is rather about 'wanting' it, for several reasons. Some people like the F-16 more than the Hornet because it is USAF instead of USN, others because of nostalgia, or because it is better in something than the F/A-18 I don't care that much about the F-16 myself, although I think it is a nice plane. The more the merrier, I'd like to have it available and there is a high probability that I would buy it. Can I live without it? Yes, as soon as we have the Hornet. :)
