Ok, now I understand your point.
Granted, VR isn't feeling real. It is no holodeck. From that point of view: Yes, we are far away still.
The aspects where real improvements happened during the last five years is visuals. Getting the stereoscopic 3D and the tracking finally right, as well as the data transfer with acceptable lag.
Tactile stuff is actually worked on already, but of course some stuff you mentioned remains and will remain for quite some time. I think you mentioned the big ones.
I probably wouldn't say VR will never be able to do that, but I admit it is hard without actually going into your brain or moving your body. Both are dangerous and not necessarily desirable.
That being said, I am positive VR is on a good way to become good enough so, like you said, after some getting used to it it can be pretty awesome and really enhance our gaming experience in almost every game. :)
