  1. i have to agree with John, airbrush is a really helpfull tool for this. doesn't have to be very expencive. el cheapo harborfright "horible" tools AirBrush will not set you back to much and it is not that bad at all. i still use ordinary portable compressor (with fluid catch) there are scale model grade "rattle cans" with nice thin pigment particles that don't eat up the detail, but in long run those add up to be very expensive and wasteful option
  2. this is a control head of an/arc-210 radio. not modeled in DCS version of A10 as it is several upgrades behind the r eal thing, but it is present in the more current hogs. my main point though is to showcase how backlight looks through painted lasermax (airbrushed modelmaster 2040 aircraft interior black") Thick8, best picture that i have of wiring is probably this: https://public.fotki.com/tankist/cockpit---/laser-engraved-panels/20151118-182346.html not to detailed however. after it was taken i managed to rearrange lighting (entirely new PCB and lightplate) to get a better distribution. buttons and backlight LEDs are all SMT now, rotaries will have their own connections. i don't mind sharing, but its not complete set of drawings one can just copy and use. it is still WIP at this point (after all this time , yes), i can't vouch for precision, i'm not building for common elements (buttons are custom made to my strange measurements) and frankly my drawings are quite a mess. if you interested in this project and would like to try to make sense of things we can have a screenshare and discussion some evening. ping me.
  3. never tried it with "translucent" lazermax, never knew such thing existed and IMHO its all same material we are talking about. its not acrylic btw, its a variant of polystyrene with a nice layer of paint. i use normal black on white. its very thin and as such will not block light from shining through. ADD just visited Johnson plastics webstore, thranslucent is the normal stateof their lasermax, with transparent being the special order option . and i don't seeanything that they describe as opacue. Hansan, lasermax will engrave perfectly, they do however have materials they position specifically for mechanical engraving
  4. dust is always a problem but it is possible to minimize it. if i'm painting bare acrylic i will try to scuff the surface with fine waterpaper, finer then 600 and wipe clean to remove as much dust as possible prior to painting. don't attempt to cover it in one go. i find that my best results when i do about 3 thin layers 20-40 minutes apart (depends on temperature, paint needs to be completely dry to touch). make sure you using rustoleum that is safe for acrylic, their enamels will attack the material. i no longer use white acrylic for panels however. i find material rowmark lasermax gives me much better results. my process is to cut the outline of the panel, paint (LM is still to glossy) in several layers, spraying from the angle so to cover the edges and then laser engrave . as for sanding from my scale modeling projects i learned to patiently wait. give at least 24hours , better yet 3 full days for the paint to polymerize. not that i sand panels good luck
  5. Good to hear from you again , and awesome you dabbled into the CNC madness :) so much more possibilities now. Do however prepare as far as ventilation for the Laser
  6. looks good John, not wobbly by the looks of things. if you end up not scoring any slaw devices (not sure if those what you mentioned above) it will not be to shabby of a solution.
  7. bravo. that is not an easy device to accomplish. want to share how/what was used for the build?
  8. and another awesome build. good job, looking towards more
  9. that is an outstanding project. thakn's for sharing and looking to see more
  10. I worked on CDU kit before and have some extra panels for that including alum front and backplates. But it's not a complete kit as buttons are quite an effort to complete for me. https://public.fotki.com/tankist/cockpit---/rpicdu/20150314-235058.html Otherwise there are LynxDK and hegykc that were working on those two items , but AFAIK they are not taking orders just yet.
  11. There are always two sides and different perspectives. We heard OP's very critical assessment, we will never hear the other side performance assessment of OP. At any rate , horrible" would be working at Chinese sweatshop. Chance are things are not that bad in NY
  12. Ahhh, that looks even better. Now to paint those edges. Don't have exact warning indicator sizes for you. I estimated them for my panel.
  13. Yea there are quite few chars other then kbd. Ian listed the location of TGA font file in this post : https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2312247&postcount=9 Contains every single char that CDU can display including the arows, degrees and other special stuff.
  14. Looking good there Patriot.
  15. That looks very good indeed (Not that I need replacement pedals at this point). I understand you trying to achieve increased resistance for the brake action with the cam loading?
  16. Cab ad to the general sentiment of approval here . With that, in case you never used it before, don't expect immediate results and plan to practice with it. It took me quite some time to get used to it, I remember it was getting quite frustrating at times . After a while it became intuitive and yes I too would not fly without it anymore.
  17. Comfy looking seat there. If anything else the MIP can stay for decoration purposes, will give it more of a pit look. And then are you 100 sure you will never need it again? I did try OR at friends place, albeit not with DC). it's obviously immersing and great and unprecedented, but I still doubt it's end all be all solution . At least at the current state of things I will not be getting rid of my 180FOV visuals.
  18. That is quite an accomplishment Lynx.
  19. Cool looking buttons RK.
  20. Cool stuff. Are you going to share any details on how this was accomplished?
  21. oh this is awesome! thanks for sharing
  22. Sorry for using a beaten cliche phrase but pictures above are the definition of "money in the bank". Looks great, good luck on your endeavor. VKB could use some competition )
  23. Присоединяюсь к вопросу. Качество графики КМК более чем адекватное у обоих симов.
  24. compact a neat.
  25. If budget is a concern then clocked 6600K will perform exactly the same as 6700K for DCS purposes. I would not build a system around anything older then sandy bridge at this point so put your first gen i7 on eBay to offset the cost somewhat (my old 950+platform fetched about 150bucks)
