A-10s will only carry the externals for extended range relocation missions. Most other combat jets will carry externals on every mission unless the mission profile calls for the flight to go without.

Paulrkiii has been working with military aircraft for 17 years. Cali has been working F-16 Fuel systems for quite a while (now working on B-52s). I worked as an F-16 crew chief a long time ago. There are quite a few of us that work or have worked on military aircraft, and I can tell you that in most cases they will carry external fuel tanks, depending on the mission of course. Take some time to look up pictures and information before you try to discredit someone in the military community. F-14s too. Pretty much every aircraft back to WWII would carry externals into combat. If they had to be dropped, they could be (hence the term External "Drop" tanks). If one fell off without a command from the cockpit, a TFOA (Things Falling Off Aircraft) report would be filled out by the flight crew.

Mazzic, sent you a PM

Can you add us in? International: 111th vFW "Black Hawgs" 76th vTFS A-10C and 41st vRAS Ka-50 (BS2) Website is still being updated to current. I can give you the link once I get the new one.

I just got my package in the mail from Pitbldr with some panels. I already had the UFC from him, plus my TACAN. Although most of the others are prototypes, they work for me and look great!

I'll be painting a few of those once I get the files. check my other thread about it.

With a view like this. I'd like to see a DCS version too!

wasn't wining about the price so don't go getting annoyed. It was a statement for all of us. The more that can buy into these things to drop the prices for all of us, the better. right? That being said, I will definitely buy a full set, so don't worry.

It's using the dimensions from Dimebug's plans, but due to the thickness of wood, they might be a little bit off. If so, only by a couple Millimeters. It will look better once the gauges are in. I do actually plan on using real instruments.
-
Here's an update I did. It took a good hour or two to get these cut the way they are. I'm only using a basic electric saw, but it's a good start I think. I need to clean up the edges, round the corners, get every layer to line up correctly, cut out the areas for the gauges, add some paint.... then it'll be finished.
-
Ah ok. I was thinking I could just build it out of wood. Curious to know how much each one is though, or did I miss something and the more interested, the cheaper the price? (if so, everyone buy! Hehe)

Dude, that looks awesome! Are you going to use the Helios HSI? Which monitor are you using?
-
From simmeters, I think the only thing virtual in a gauge would be an eADI/eHSI. The rest is working gauges, not virtual images as what Helios uses. I'm all for Helios as I use it daily, but if they figured out a way to make physical gauges which they are selling, then I'm good for it.

Never say Never.

Yep, looks like they already have a somewhat close Airspeed, VVI, and Altimeter. Once the Engine cluster is done and a possible HSI/ADI set is done, the only thing left is the Fuel. I just sent another email about the HSI/ADI and Fuel, so we'll see... It would be great to get all of these, but, well, figuring the prices so far with the 3, that's around 550€ ($790) according to the site. Add in the rest, and man this really is a super expensive hobby! hehe:thumbup:
-
I sent an email to Simmeter asking a few questions about their gauges... in hopes that they will do more for the A-10 (so we don't have to mix and match). Here's my email, followed by the reply... which was sent within a few hours.

Hey DM, great find. Any chance you know the price of a set minus the TO Trim and AIL/ELEV lights would be without the frames? I'll build those myself out of wood. The Trim would be good for me too, but, well, I need to keep prices down, lol. If the price is right, I can probably convince the wife (I just spent around $800 on stuff, so not quite sure ;) ). Another quick question, if you can... would these be connected to a Leo board, or a Phidgets Board?
-
Paul, I have a quick question that maybe others might have. For the scoring: If only pilot 3 and 4 are flying MAT, then in point 12.6, I'm confused on why the scoring would be from all 4 pilots.... or am I reading this wrong? We're trying to decide who will fly which part. IE: Pilot 1 and 2 flying VLD and LALD, they can then practice only that section.
-
That would be awesome!
-
I'd get them nonetheless as they look close to the real for pretty cheap. Too bad they don't ship to Germany.
-
I don't get this... The A-10 is the best CAS aircraft out there. It's not an Air to Air fighter. So why do all these people keep trying to compare it to one? I don't see any aircraft replacing the A-10 in what it can do.
-
Thanks Paulrkiii, I'll get the info to my pilots. We are also trying to decide who gets to fly. I like the calling you gave us... "Slash". I just hope I can take off the weekend of the comp, and maybe have a sort of pit built. Wife already said I could fly it. For the skins, should I submit them to you for each pilot, or just a squadron standard?
-
How about a poll to end all useless polls?
-
Looks good! Now you have your tub to sit in instead of dreaming about.

Some of us want actual working gauges instead of a monitor.
