Questions about Aerodynamic Model
[DBS]TH0R replied to IIIJG52_Otto_'s topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
P-51D tail wheel when locked allows for 7° of movement. Dora's doesn't move at all when locked with stick held back. That is the difference. Hence the toe brakes tapping technique. EDIT: IIRC there might be a difference also whether you need to hold the stick back to actually lock it or just move it once then center again (neutral) for it to remain locked, haven't tested that since I always hold it in my lap. :) -
Questions about Aerodynamic Model
[DBS]TH0R replied to IIIJG52_Otto_'s topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Exactly. After spending some time with DCS I can't go back to IL21946. It is like comparing IL21946 to WarThunder. Somewhere it has been said that IL2 grossly exaggerated certain things. For me, the most notable are landings. After DCS, IL21946 landings feel as if someone is holding my plane while I am touching down. In DCS I actually have to work for it and apply proper techniques. IMHO IL2 thought us some bad habits. -
I hear intermittent engine sounds when I look to the side as well.

Questions about Aerodynamic Model
[DBS]TH0R replied to IIIJG52_Otto_'s topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
From the link you posted: Sums up exactly what I am experiencing with both prop modules. -
Seconded. After only a couple of T/O and landings I know more or less what to expect. The learning curve on the P-51D was much steeper. But then again, that maybe has more to do with limitations and bad habits from other sims. Very nice landing btw.!

please make the "auto rudder" a server set option

Engine shut down and invisible Cockpit parts
[DBS]TH0R replied to iFoxRomeo's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
A bug forum would be useful, no doubt. I noticed that too. I see it every time I shut down. -
[REQUEST] Cockpit closed but can hear other engines...
[DBS]TH0R replied to Krupi's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Unless I am mistaken, other two planes can be faintly heard in this video. Whether the pilot would hear them over own engine sounds and while wearing a headset is another thing... -
Awkward. I find TO in Mustang far more difficult... Interesting. Will give this a try next time.

Managed to jump a Fw190 at some 18000ft last night. My tanks were running dry as it happened. Maneuvered into not one but two perfect firing positions only to miss horribly. Then he dove for the deck and called in for some help. As Murphy's law dictates, this is precisely when my tanks ran completely dry due to max power and higher fuel consumption. I ended up ditching while being strafed by two 190s. Left the server and went to practice offline gunnery. Without the K-14. Good old deflection shooting should be mastered before even trying to use the gyro sight. And I used to know how to shoot back in IL2 days. Better acceleration will make for a decent separation so that Mustang pilot can not get into firing position.

What about planes visibility and stutters from enemy fire?
[DBS]TH0R replied to Kwiatek's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Even when tracking objects from the ground against a blue sky in DCS they aren't easy to spot. Much harder than in real life. This definitely needs to be addressed with EDGE. -
I had the same problem today.

Done. -
On holiday. All pilots from my squad who fly DCS. :) Yeah, would be interesting to match Dora with 75" Mustang.

Roar of the Merlin - A Brand New Sound Experience
[DBS]TH0R replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
What changes have you done to the sound mod if I may ask? -
Based on my single venture to DoW server last night I saw many more P51 pilots than D9. That may be either due to more pilots with D9 keys or due to familiarization with the P51. The combat above 20000 is much slower than down low. I presume this is where the gyro sights shine. All I know is that Dora is just like in old IL2 very forgiving and easy to fly. Less engine management enables you to focus on combat and things going around you. Though, after spending some time with P51 in combat (have only fought the AI before) that gap becomes minimal. One more thing - I was able to out turn a couple of Doras down low. But as soon as you do that either his buddy dives on you and thats the end of it, or he runs away as P51 can not match the acceleration.

Everyone has it. Usually when I don't have a visual on the enemy / where action is, I can tell by looking in the direction where my FPS plummets down to 10. Apparently only EDGE will fix that. Limitation of the current engine or how they implemented .50cals.

Went for a couple flights tonight on DoW: Did one (first) sortie in Dora and scored 2 kills before I was damaged and had to RTB. Once the P-51 slots were open I jumped right in. Managed to down one Dora, other than that got shot down every single time I was out there in a Mustang. Once I forgot to (un)load 25% fuel and flipped right over in a low level turn. Like in IL21946 them Doras always fly in pairs. The night ended for me with a 30000ft chase with a couple of Stangs and Doras. Boy does high combat differ from old IL2. Like walking on eggs. Good times ahead!

[Review] Simped F16/USB vs. MFG Crosswind
[DBS]TH0R replied to [DBS]TH0R's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thoughts from a heli pilot: -
I agree. It should look, pardon the expression, more "chubby". :) DCS D9 has the engine cowling way too streamlined IMHO. EDIT: Just flew her again and it doesn't seem that off as it did at first... I guess it depends on the angle from which she is being viewed.
-
Hoping that with EDGE we'll get similar reflections as on the F-86 videos. Seconded.
-
If that is what he was referring to, then I agree wholeheartedly. It would be nice to have those controls 'bind-able' by default without messing about with TARGET or .lua files.
-
Well color me purist then since I have no problems T/O and landing (even two pointer) with Dora. :) I doubt you will get flaps control on TM Hog, it has to do with how DCS handles controls. Marriage of controls between TM Hog and the A-10 module is another thing. Use TARGET. Not sure I understand, what do you think is wrong with the throttle? Absolutely and ace module. Great work ED.
-
Maybe a dumb question and I'm sorry if it has been posted before, but have you double checked there are not axis overlapping with your rudder control? DCS binds all sorts of stuff by default.
