  1. This is something that has bugged me for a while, more so of late with 2.1.1 as I'm making more escort type missions where you will protect a flight of B-17's for example. The AI piloting these aircraft seem to have no regard for the type of aircraft that they're flying, or how much vomit the virtual crew will be creating in the back of them. For example, form up on the B-17 on the free flight mission in DCS Normandy, and follow it until it starts its landing routine. The pitch and roll of the aircraft are excessive for an aircraft of any size at this phase of flight. I'd like to see either an option to set restrictions of bank, climb and roll rates in the ME, or have the AI flight path following reviewed at some point as they're very erratic and react like they're trying to evade a SAM rather than lining up for final.
  2. YAY! Thanks guys
  3. Hey guys, I've been tinkering and tweaking with the settings in 2.1 to try and get the best balance for performance and visuals, and these are where I've found the best results, so I thought I'd share them here. I do have a pretty powerful computer however, check my Signature for the specs, so your mileage may vary. If you have other settings that work well for you, do the same post them up and explain how they help for your rig. Happy flying! 1. NVidia Profiler settings As Wags pointed out in his post this morning, use these settings to enable AA and AF and use the Differed lighting in game. It made a great impact on both visuals and performance for me. 2. In Game Settings As per Wags post, set AA and AF to zero in game and I've found these choices work best for me. 3. Force ASW on This made the biggest difference for me and got rid of the ghosting and juddering associated with low level flight and looking out the side of the aircraft.
  4. Guaranteed that this morning before starting the update of 2.0 to 2.1 that the 1.5 was un-modified and unchanged as I was flying one of the Viggen training missions in Georgia. I haven't touched it since quitting that, and I swear that I haven't tried any tricks. The only thing I have done today was update Skate Zilla's Updater tool to try and get the Normandy terrain installed as I couldn't see it in the 2.1 Modules section. That did fail however and told me that NORMANDY_terrain was an unknown module. I did the cmd line one after that and it worked, so maybe that had something to do with it. Sure is odd, but yeah, I've already figured that 1.5 is dead now and I'll need a fresh install.
  5. I have no idea how this has happened, but I went to run my DCS 1.5 install a little while ago after playing around in 2.1. I got the pop up that said the DCS updater has a new version, do I wish to update... Yes. It fired up and its looks like 2.1, in the bottom right it says 2.1 and I get a pop up telling me that I don't have the terrain installed... Odd I thought, I must have launched 2.1 by mistake. Exited to desktop, re-started. Same thing... Exited to desktop 'Open file location' for the shortcut, takes me to the DCS 1.5 installation folder. Started it again, went to the module manager and it tells me that the Normandy and Nevada terrain are available, do I want to download, I click yes to see what it does and it's now 3/4 of the way through copying just short of 50GB of files from my DCS World 2 install directory! Here's the Auto Update Log autoupdate_log_old.txt
  6. Correct, most Army Air Corps Gazelles didn't have a SAS system, but there were some that did. Can't comment on the RAF Chicken legs though.
  7. Oh yes please, it amazes me looking back now how easily I could sleep in the back of the Bedford going cross country over Sennelager plain in the freezing winter weather in my younger days, yet I can't get comfortable and sleep in a 747 economy seat for sh!t now! Edit: Oooh, oooh, one of these too! You could get real toasty in the back of a Sultan at the FARP :)
  8. + 1000 This has to be one of the biggest frustration with the controls is that the A-10C is AMAZING with it's switchology, short press, long press, etc and after experiencing it, you just want it in all the aircraft!
  9. Thank you so much for these objects VOC, they really bring an airfield to life
  10. This one is a bit odd, and I don't know if DCS itself is to blame, but the folks at Oculus say if it aint in their store, go talk to the game developer so... When playing DCS 1.5 for over 15 - 20 minutes or so, I occasionally get an issue where the audio drops out. The only way to get it back is to quit DCS to desktop, Disable the rift as an Audio Playback device in Windows, re-enable it and then start DCS again. This does not happen with any other Audio device that I've used, only the rift, and DCS is the only game that this problem happens with. I've changed the USB port that the rift uses, re-installed the Oculus software (both suggested by Oculus), but neither have done the trick. Now they've effectively washed their hands of it and pointed me over here as I stated before, DCS is the only thing that suffers with this problem. Anybody have any ideas?
  11. I have something similar since coming back to take a look. It's been a few patches since I've flown DCS, but this seems to come and go. Currently present with DCS 1.5.6.4818.282 My scaling options in Windows are usually at 150% but I tried it at 100% to see if there was any difference and it had no effect. I have exactly the same issue in the latest build of the Alpha as well 2.0.5.3889.199
  12. Seriously, until we see DCS 2.5 and the holy merge, I've taken up with BOS in VR. It's glorious! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Check if your Mirrors are on, with them on I get stutter regardless of if they're in view or not, with them off I don't have any issues. Occurs in both 1.5.5 and 1.5.6
  14. Oh, now I'm getting excited!
  15. Yay! I feel weird flying in the Rift without a body!
  16. So after a lot of troubleshooting and trial and error and assistance from AussieM8, we've isolated the cause to be Mirrors. It doesn't matter if the mirror is in view or not, but having them on pretty much cut the frame rate in half in our Rifts, but we did not experience anything like as much of a hit on a Monitor. Not sure why exactly that the mirrors hurt the FPS when looking 90 degrees out of the cockpit up, down left or right without them in sight, but after exhaustively disabling each option and altering each setting it is 100% the culprit, and is most noticeable in the L-39 and Mi-8 (down to the curved mirrors?), especially in the L-39 Quick Start mission. Happy to report that 1.5.5 is now silky smooth again with them off, please investigate why for us!
  17. This is one of the reasons why I have not released the campaigns that I have been making. I have three on the shelf right now, one of them almost ready to go with the voice acting almost finished, but updates frequently break the scripts or triggers that are critical to the way that the missions work and finding what is causing the issues alone is painful enough without having to figure out a way to work around them... It sucks the life out of you when you're doing this as a hobby job, my hat goes off to the aircraft developers as they must face this same issue ten fold. I made the decision about 6 months ago that until 2.5 was released in a 'Release' version format, I'm simply not willing to pour the hours into them any longer as I realised that I hadn't flown anything other than repeated tests of my own campaigns for months on end, and I wasn't getting any enjoyment out of DCS any more.
  18. I've experienced this issue on and off with various builds, but I've decided to post up after having conversations with a couple of other Rift users in our flying group that are experiencing exactly the same issues, and 1.5 is currently on the shelf with us because of it. With this build the performance is lower than recent, and I experience stuttering when looking out the sides of the aircraft (any). Flying the L39 instant free flight is by far the worst experience. Typically it stutters when the mission starts, just looking forward for the first minute or so and then seems to even out, but looking out the side of the aircraft at any time causes regular micro pauses, typically one a second I'd say causing the terrain to 'jump' as it passes by, and this happens in almost any populated area. Flying an Mi-8 at 20ft and 20kts around Kutaisi produces the same result as flying a Mirage at 5000ft and 500kts. I've tinkered with the DCS settings, and like some of the other posts, it doesn't matter if I have everything set to low with the Pixel Density at 1, I get the same performance as having the settings all on High, sliders to the right and the Pixel Density up at 2.5. The only mod in use is Starways texture pack, but even with this removed using JSGME, we still get the same results. I don't get this behaviour in 2.0 however, and with the current release (2.0.4.59428), I can fly around Vegas without any issues with the pixel density at 2.5 and all the settings up at High and the sliders all the way to the right. My system specs are in the signature block, but the machine is pretty good by any standards. DCS is installed on it's own Samsung Evo 850 SSD that is dedicated to DCS, no AV is running or any other tasks that could be a contributing factor, and other titles work perfectly with my rig.
  19. Full profiles for the UH-1H, Mi-8 and Gazelle are finished and in testing with a couple of members of the 229th, they'll be available for anyone interested this week. PM if interested.
  20. Anything that can launched from a steam catapult :)
  21. Virtual USMC, CH-46 and CH-53 bring it :D

Stop wasting time putting poles up, take my money and build it already! ;) Yes, but give me a floating airfield with multiple parking spots, spawn points, configurable stores, munitions and most importantly, crew. Got to have animated deck crew, even if they're only crowded around static planes loading stores, etc. oh crap, now i've dribbled on my keyboard again.
  23. Work on the Mi-8 is going well. All of the frequencies and channels are set for the ARC-9, ARC-UD, Jadro 1A, R-828 and the R-863. I just need to run through the test scenarios, polish it a little and add the named airports and beacons. Next up after that is the Gazelle.
  24. Update from the VoiceAttack guys, the next public release will be made available in November and removes the requirement for Standard vs Direct X key inputs, so if you don't want to upgrade your version of VoiceAttack to a pre-release one, you'll be able to run these profiles then. R-863 for the Mi-8 still underway, 160 of 440 frequency commands for this radio done...
