I was wondering if you can achieve something similar with a 'live' unit using a smoking exhaust, I hacked around with a small Ground unit, but the exhaust feature in the lua script for the unit doesn't work, unless it's an attachment point in the 3DS Max file....? And that's beyond me...

What do you want to see most in DCS World?
Highwayman-Ed replied to Wags's topic in DCS Core Wish List
That's a hell of a set of choices and I want most of them, but forced to choose one, it is without doubt a dynamic campaign system, however let me stress that it must support multiplayer! -
I still can't buy this from either the DCS site or the module manager in game as it says that I don't own BS2 (I'm another BS1 + BS2 Upgrade user)

Addon Tents, Watchtower, UH-1-Cargo
Highwayman-Ed replied to upuaut's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
The guy in the stretcher looks great, how about some emergency vehicles with flashing lights and working headlights to go with him? As always, great work! -
If you're running Windows 10, take a look at its scaling options. I had to turn mine off and set them to 100% for a few games that I run when I first upgraded.

A-4 Skyhawk Tick - Black Sheep hint (VMA-214) Tick - Ground Mapping and Targeting Radar (AN/APQ-145) Tick - Complex missiles with Advanced Targeting Parameters (AGM-45 Shrike) Tick - unique methods of propulsion or force distribution (See video @ 3:40) -
Collidable tree, request.
Highwayman-Ed replied to Stratos's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Didn't Ranger already make one in his base objects pack? The only thing you'd need to do is re-skin it to 'fit' the terrain that you're using Edit: here it is I'm pretty sure that it is collidabe -
Enhanced and detailed grass mod
Highwayman-Ed replied to T. Jacob's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Put my villages in first, then the grass. My villages wouldn't work properly with Starway's Desert because the colours are mismatched, but I believe he used an edited version of them in his mod anyway, so you shouldn't need to. I personally am using a tweaked version Starway's Northern Europe, with T.Jacobs grass for normal flying, then either my Desert mod for Iraq type scenarios, or Starway's for Afghanistan type scenarios due to the colouration that we each used in our mods. -
I would, and it shouldn't be dismissed without consideration. Proper use of high resolution photographic imagery, augmented with lower level texture masks for low level flight would be a great addition IMO. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it is how Wags explained that the NTTR scenery is being created. Of course, there are several poor examples of photo real textures in FSX where there are only blanket medium altitude imagery is used without any 3d objects on the map, and yes... that is terrible. There are others though such as the ORBX scenery add ons that show how it should be done.

What Display size (Monitor or TV) do you use?
Highwayman-Ed replied to Apache600's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What he said... 65" Panasonic 4K (See sig for a link) although I needed to go SLI to keep it smooth, but my oh my am I glad that I did... I also have an awesome tan now too  -
I'd love to see some of the terrain along Death Valley say around Furnace Creek to Badwater, will the channel be recorded for later viewing by those of us in other time zones?
-
OK, that's pretty cool. Things like this really add to the immersion of low level helicopter flight, as always, nice job Lilkiki

Apologies if the intent of my post was not clear... I bought the C-101 for no purpose other than to throw some money at the developers to encourage them to make more modules. I don't regret that decision, and I actually don't really have that much interest in the airframe. I already have the Hawk and I bought the EFM for that on day one also for the same reason. I think I'm trying to say that as a new developer, Aviodev have to cover their costs and make money, they are a business after all. 70% in my opinion is vastly undervaluing what they are offering when the EFM arrives and they're selling themselves short. Sure, lots of people who wouldn't have bought it at full price now have, but I'd bet that most of those would have done so with 40% off. ED have set a consistent pattern now that every quarter they offer a sale with massive discounts and I now know a lot of people that no longer buy anything (unless it is their absolute favourite aircraft) at full price because they know it will be on sale in a couple of months... I don't want to see new developers abandone DCS because they don't make a profit by selling 90% of their sales at 70% off... If they can however make a living from that income and keep pumping out new high quality modules, bring it on...
-
Do you guys get any say on these sales and the prices... I was really happy to see another developer coming into DCS and I bought your module as soon as I could as a way of welcoming you here and supporting you and your entry into the DCS World community. Now I feel like I've been penalized for doing so. I'm not trying to start a negative thread, or take away from what you're trying to achieve, but 70% 3 months after the launch of the SFM and before we've got the EFM?

TCMC: Teeter's Comprehensive Modification Compilation
Highwayman-Ed replied to Teeter's topic in DCS Modding
It's a great idea, but make it clear what you will support and what you won't in terms of upgrading the contents from the start. I do something similar for the 229th to group similar types of mods together, especially when there are overlaps. The problems you may face however are with the people with lower end rigs that struggle with some of the mods, and then want a version without this mod or that mod, and I have seen in the past that Nvidia and AMD users get better results with different mods. DCS patches often break a mod (or more that the mod isn't compatible any more) and it needs to be fixed. Don't be disheartened, it's a great idea, but it can be a lot of work to maintain a package such as this. For the users of Teeter's initiative, please take a second to appreciate how hard it is to make these packages in the first place, let alone keeping them up to date! -
I may well have cleaned that up a while ago as it's pretty old now. I'll take a look in my Google Drive tomorrow and update here if I still have it.
-
I don't think anyone here is seriously expecting these aircraft as such, it's just a guessing game to pass the time until we get our hands on whatever wonders Leatherneck provide us with. I personally will buy pretty much anything with wings (or rotors for that matter) that they make given the quality of the MiG-21.
-
Credit to your work Starway Could be for a few reasons, 1. Background colors of the Seasons all vary and bleed through to the modified textures, summer may not have suited it as well. That's originally why I chose Fall for my Desert terrain mod until I learnt how to tweak those enough too. 2. Maybe he didn't want to clash with my Desert terrain mod :)

DCS Desert Complete Conversion Mod
Highwayman-Ed replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This mod once enabled should replace your summer textures with desert ones. I've not heard of it ever causing flickering before. If you run my villages mod, it should be installed with JSGME before the dessert terrain is as it also contains a summer variant of the villages textures that will be installed over the top of the Villages Mod ones. I haven't actually flown the latest 1.2.15 version at all yet, so I can't comment, but i doubt ED would have changed anything at this stage of DCS 1.2's life cycle that changes how the textures work, but I'll take a look tomorrow when I will be in front of my DCS computer again. -
Pansonic 4K AX800 etc users, yo
Highwayman-Ed replied to _Dredd's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I ran DSR on my Samsung 40" 1080 TV and that's what prompted me to buy a 4k TV in the first place. DSR was really impressive, just a little bit blurry. True 4k in comparison is crystal clear, and it gets better fps than I did with DSR on a 1080 screen. The only advice I have is you REALLY REALLY SHOULD do yourself a favour and get a TV that supports HDMI 2 (which means a GTX 9X0) or via Display port if you want a truly great experience. You can run @ 4k via standard HDMI 1.4 @ 30Hz, but after comparing a friends setup using his Samsung 4K TV over HDMI 1.4 vs my experience on the Panasonic using Display Port @ 60Hz, I'm certain that I made the right choice with the Panasonic. Dredd, Are your Titans 780's? If so, you already have more than enough horsepower through your Display Port to drive a 4k display... QuickSilver, Check my sig for specs... I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Panasonic 65" or the 58" for that matter as a monitor. The only thing is that the 65" is really big when you first start using it, so much so that even I questioned whether I should have bought the 58 but after using it for a few months I'm now used to it. It's amazing to see peoples reactions when they first see it though :) edit: note the 32" LG TV next to the Panasonic! Here is a very quick little video flying the Huey: Link It doesn't do any justice to the quality of the screen at all, but it is more to give you an indication of the size of the panel.
