  1. Thats 20 years ago. MBDA are no slouches. When they say they have a missile that has a NEZ orders of magnitude more than anything else out there theyre not kidding. No one here has proof one way or another. But considering the technology theyre using and their track record I have no problem believing the Meteor is king of the hill till something else comes along with either similar or entirely "gamechanging" technology.
  2. You can get a free F16 with a multipack of Diet coke. Doesnt mean its the best. Every man and his dog has one, and they probably would find it easier to purchase 120Ds than transition to a Meteor platform.
  3. Thats interesting. If we assume they were flying at Med/High Alt and giving themselves room to extend (ie not pushing too close to RTR) than thats not too far removed from current DCS missile kinematics.
  4. I remember that video. It was one of my favourites at the time! Thanks for the memories.
  5. Sad news indeed.
  6. Ramjet >> No Ramjet
  7. Fine for me with modern airframes. With 2nd or 3rd gen airframes dot hunting is a problem till ED fixes the resolution dependant dot discrepancy.
  8. The detail does look good...
  9. Other commitments meant that I missed the live stream today but im looking forward to watching it later today when I finally get some time to myself! I have to admit to being behind the curve to this live streaming business. When it was first touted to me I was a little dismissive but it certainly one of the most enjoyable aspects of DCS MP events now. Especially when you get to know the regulars! Remember SATAL is an (almost) year long event. The first match is just the start. Lots more opportunity to try new tactics and see what other are doing.
  10. Hi, See post 71 for missions and weather.
  11. If ED published a detailed change log they would save everyones time, especially their own, from having to post and read through "bugs" that are infact intended "features" If they've removed it on purpose because the real HUD doesnt have it thats fine. But will they model the real pilots alternative? And if so, why keep the -10 and beyond range? Not taking the time to publish a detailed changelog is a huge false economy.
  12. The display still has 3840x2160 pixels (per display or eye). It just takes a 1440p input. Similar to buying a 4K monitor but only running DCS at 2560x1600 in full screen. When you press your eyeball to the monitor the individual pixels are still the same size and there are still just as many. Its just more of them are used to represent the source 'pixels'. Consequently SDE is eliminated even with a lower input. If you want a 4k signal displayed over a 4k display you want the 8KX. 8KX backers will be 'loaned' an 8K till the 8KX is available. Im under no illusion of the graphical penalty of the 8KX.
  13. I think some of your number are a little off. Only the 8KX is full 4k (3840x2160) input and output per eye. Theres no release date for that yet and undoubtedly it will cripple a 2080ti. The 8K takes a 2560x1440 signal per eye and upscales it to 3840x2160 pixels per eye. Furthermore the fact that a gfx card can display that many pixels is no indication that it can do it with reasonable fps. Looking forward to your 4k review!
  14. Either way still pretty close!
  15. What PD do you run the SO at? The tracking software for the Pimax 4k is not good which is why I didnt recommend it to a previous poster. But the 8K will be using steam VR tracking 2.0 which if 1.0 is anything to go by, will be great. p.s. SO 1440x1600 *2 = 4608000 pixels. If you add 1.5 PD = 6912000 pixels 8K 1440x2560 *2 = 7372800 pixels So yes. The 8K will be more demanding than a SO at native. But you start adding some PD into the SO, as many people here advocate, and you get very little difference in GPU load. Except the 8K is doing it at a natively higher resolution. Once I receive the 8K ill post a review of that too. Dont worry, If I dont like it Ill slam it too:) pps. CV2 aint gonna happen. Forget it. FB is leaving the 'gamer' VR and focusing on the more accessible social media type VR. Its sad for us but I understand if they want to focus on their core strengths and leave the gamer market (how many FB users have 1080tis?) to steam etc.
  16. Hi, From the OP: 16gb 3200CL14 Ram. Samsung 960 evo Nvme. Ive never used the Pimax 4K but from what ive read its prob not a good purchase right now.
  17. Actually I have a squadmate who is very effective in PVP with the Rift. Its what spurred me on to get the SO. For me its not the competitive nature in PVP thats the killer. You can get round that with modern airframes, tactics and experience. Ultimately it was the severe degradation in IQ. For me DCS is just too pretty and lifelike especially with the new lighting to be happy with a low res, jaggedy, pixellated blotchy mess in VR. I tried tinkering with everything including PD, MSAA, graphical settings etc. Its my own fault for being used to flying on a big screen at 4K with everything turned up to 11. Im still in no doubt that VR is the future. We're just not there yet imho. If I hadnt kickstarted the Pimax 8k I would probably have persevered with the SO a little longer. But seeing as the 8k is supposedly due in Q2 and I already have a buyer for the SO im afraid its already back in its box.
  18. Sure. Just ping me on our TS or Discord <51>Rage
  19. Tacviews uploaded: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FW7FwfJ7DCEigJ5BLgEiU2riloL-A7l1?usp=sharing Next match InSky vs 59th Ravens Saturday 1300z!
  20. Although this seems to affect all planes it also seems to affect the F15 the most. F15s certainly seem to be the most frequently tanky. I dont know if thats a consequence of its FM/DM or a consequence of the missiles usually fired at it.
  21. Yeah I found that too. You had it slide it down further at the front and have the strap sitting higher at the back then you might think. Still very comfortable though. Despite all that I still found it wanting.
  22. The centre mount plate is not very sturdy. I never used it. I have a floor mounted BRD-N stick.
  23. I did increase the PD in increments all the way up past 1.5. Unfortunately it did not improve things significantly Thanks man.
  24. A not so brief intro first... Currently I fly pretty much MP exclusively. I have a simpit of sorts with a Speedmaster Flight seat, centre mounted stick and a 65" 4K tv as a display running of a 8600k@5.3ghz and a 1080ti. Ive had to play real life tetris in order to fit that all into a small study. Its a little snug, and the layout is unconventional for a study but it works, at least as a mancave. I've wanted to get into VR for a long time. I came pretty close to buying the rift on a number of occasions (including preordering). Every time I read a post saying how great it was and that there was no going back to 2D I really felt like I was missing out! My main concerns were with the resolution, FOV, visuals, and difficulties with cockpit instruments and the effects all of that would have had on the MP experience. I was encouraged when I saw more and more people jumping on the VR bandwagon including a squadmate. Last year I kickstarted the Pimax 8K(X) headset. It seemed to have the answers for the detail and FOV concerns I had above. As much as im looking forward to that I also realise that theyre a small company and they have made some amateurish mistakes along the way. They were supposed to deliver January but it looks to be delayed till the spring, if not later. Thats fine by me. Id rather wait another 6 months and get a complete, polished product than a rushed one. I considered the Vive Pro but the price speculation (?£800) and the fact that its the same screen as the SO put me off. Also I have no need for room scale. For half the (expected) price I went with the SO. I couldnt wait to try it out and hopefully get rid of my TV and make some space in the study. Setup This was a pain in the arse. Perhaps I was unlucky with the timing of windows update but basically WMR portal software broke the update, or the update broke the WMR software but getting it all to install/work as intended was not easy. Ultimately I had to get an insiders build of W10 in order to set it up. That should be released soon. Once the software was installed actually setting up the device was very easy. Comfort This is the only device ive used. For me its very comfortable and well made. The leatherette padding is very good. Strap is easily adjustable. IPD adjustment works well. All good. Sound Passable, just, but definitely not as good as a set of basic Sennheisers that I use. Also the earphones don't extend far down enough. FOV Actually this I felt was very good. I didnt feel like I was looking through a set of ski goggles like alot of people have said. It was perfectly adequate. Only the centre is the sweetspot but again I cant compare this to any other device. I was pleasantly surprised with the FOV. Screen clarity and SDE Im afraid this where it starts falling apart. First of all there is SDE. I can see the pixels, clearly, especially in areas of high contrast. Its not so bad over say a winter terrain texture, or nevada. But in Caucasus spring/summer it was more apparent. The feeling of being in the cockpit was very good. It makes you realise how different the cockpits are ergonomically. I particularly like the AV8B pit. It was my favourite to use in VR. However, actually reading the instruments was difficult without zoom. Furthermore outside the cockpit, everything was frankly, a pixelated, blurry mess. Visual ID is almost impossible premerge. Dots do appear out in the distance. But everything that makes 2.5 beautiful is lost. There's almost no difference between using high or low settings. It could have been 1.5 for all that I could see. It mostly looks the same. And it doesn't look good. I really wanted to like VR but unfortunately this really crushed it for me. The difference in clarity is stark. The resolution needs to improve by at least an order of magnitude, or two, before it will be acceptable, at least for me. I went back to my TV after testing for a while and it was a welcome relief to actually be able to see my wingman clearly (and not as a blob). The terrain and lighting are beautiful again and I can make the details of nearby towns/airfields as you would do in real life. In the SO the HUD was always easily readable. But everything else looked aweful:( Tracking This was perfect. I didnt bother with the hand controllers but the headset tracking was flawless, and all without setting up sensors etc. In summary im afraid its not for me. Ill give it another go over the next few days but right now the experience is too compromised. The feeling of immersion in the cockpit is awesome. The tracking is awesome (R73 Schlemm shots are epic) but the actual usability of the cockpit instruments/displays and the poor visual quality of everything inside and outside the cockpit was a massive letdown.
  25. Got it working finally by installing the Windows Insider programme build 17115 RC4.
