Everyone seems to forget that ED is not in the business to make games... They are in the business to program military grade flight simulators for military use all over the world. Our little piece of things (the public flight sim market) was simply an offshoot of their existing company to take advantage of code pretty much already written anyway.. We are lucky they sell us ANYTHING... Once again they aren't going to bet the farm on making an FPS just because some of us want them to..

Have you read all of the threads that state that SLI is not currently supported by ED? Think this might be related?

I would like the idea if ED was a huge software house like EA or something but ED is so small that the idea that they would even WANT to take on an FPS shooter to be integrated into DCS is remote at best.. ARMAis what it is, and if that isn't what you want, then DCS isn't going to give you what you want for sure. They make excellent flight simulations.. Period. IMHO without expanding the size of the company by an order of magnitude, beating ARMA at it's own game is a pure pipe dream.. (Besides, I don't want the aircraft to grind to a halt so that we can have ANOTHER FPS. I play them as well, but they are truly a dime a dozen anymore.. When I want to play a FPS I go play an FPS... ) Please leave ED to continue being the greatest flight sim company in the world..

Yes, any module that works with the current DCS 1 version will work with DCS 2 once it is released...

I have had good luck with Fatality 750s... (as for your power supply, it may have been a good one but they don't last forever... And the closer to the sustained rating you run all the time, the faster you will wear one out.. Better to buy one with a bit of room rather than pinch pennies and get just enough PS) Hence my recommendation.. If you want to price comparable PSU's, make sure you look for 80PLUS BRONZE or better... Bronze would be the least I would go.. If rated 80 plus bronze you should be good to go.. (Silver is a bit more efficient and turns wastes less voltage putting out less heat.. Gold is better still, but I believe Bronze is the best buy for the money and anything not at least Bronze is not worth buying..)

Normandy and current aircraft Discussion
outlawal2 replied to Talisman_VR 's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Well yeah because during wartime, it is always such well-balanced matchups... Good GOD, the entire war was a total see-saw back and forth with one side getting a leg up on the oither and then the other side catching up and surpassing.. It was NEVER a "well balanced" match up and technology is here to ensure exactly that... You only make your equipment better to obtain an advantage over your foe.. Just fly the plane and let ED make the planes and let the scenario builders work on the "balance"... -
Careful what you wish for... :(

DCS problems with HD SSD. Help!
outlawal2 replied to jomar machado's topic in Payment and Activation
Try unplugging ANYTHING that you don't need to run the game.. (Also, if you have an external USB hub, make sure it is a POWERED hub that way your system isn't havbing to power all your external items too. This won't make a huge difference but it does all add up.) If you have more than one HD, unplug it as well as any CD / DVD drives.. Reboot and try again and see if it helps.. I can't guarantee that it will make a big enough difference, but if you DO notice a difference then you KNOW that this is the issue. If you still have the same issues, it still could be the PS anyway ... -
DCS problems with HD SSD. Help!

This is NOT a "little" upgrade.. The video card especially adds a LOT of power drain and the water cooler will take more power than a fan will.. You asked for suggestions and I have provided that.. I also explained why... I am pretty much convinced this is the issue, but you seem to not want to hear it... Good luck with your issue and please let us know when you fix it (and how) so others can learn from it Thanks! -
DCS problems with HD SSD. Help!
outlawal2 replied to jomar machado's topic in Payment and Activation
That really should be enough, but how OLD is the PSU? They do wear out.. (I am also guessing because I don't know exactly what you have connected either) Still recommend that you try the online calculator and be certain to include EVERYTHING you are running. I konw a lot of folks don't mention all kinds of items and when they add them all up it makes quite a difference.. Also, not all Power supplies are made equal and I know nothing about the one you mentioned, but not all of them meet the standards they say they do.. I can't say if yours does, or how old it may be or any other possible variables, but I CAN say that with the issues you are having I would bet money that it is a power issue and that your PS (for whatever reason) is the issue. Do you have a friend that might have a newer / bigger power supply you could try? -

Power supply is maxing out and causing the issues.. What PS do you have? There is a pin on your processor that is used for the system reset. When power is cut to this pin, the CPU reboots the system.. (Your computer rest button is connected to that pin and causes a restart.) If you have too small of a power supply, it will run until it becomes over taxed.. GAMES such as DCS require a lot of computations, textures to be loaded / unloaded etc. and this takes a lot more power than pretty much any thing else you are going to do with your machine.. So what I think is happening is you are running the machine fine and can run some apps with no issues. You try DCS and when the the Graphics card start to pull a lot of power, your PSU can't keep up and when it maxes out then everything else plugged into it starts to drop voltage.. As the computer monitors the reset pin on your processor, when it sees the voltage drop below 4.7 volts (don't quote me on that one but I THINK it is 4.7 volts) it thinks you hit the reset button and resets your machine for you... This can cause a lot of weirdnesses such as you are describing. Try one of the online power supply calculators and see what you need for a power suppoy and I will bet that your PS is too wimpy for all of the hardware you are running.. -
You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
outlawal2 replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
But can you bring up a moving map display on that money machine? If yes, then DEFINITELY time to take a break! -
Nope

Nice writeup...

LOL Try that in real life and "you would be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog $hit out of Hong kong!" Wow what a ride...

How about when your 3 year old grand daughter keeps repeating "Pull up, pull up, pull up" ? This wouldn't be so bad except she lives in a different state and repeats this to my wife over Facetime... (Apparently, this is heard in the background?) Oops.. :music_whistling: And that is a TRUE STORY -
That is true, but trees are also the rotor pilots best friend in real life and sorely missed in DCS currently.. In my opinion, it is the most immersion busting aspect of rotor ops in DCS today..
-
Nope no panic attack as you say, just trying to understand the convoluted logic is all... Please go ahead and continue to ask ED and Matt about issues that are completely out of their hands and firmly in the lap of the hardware manufacturer..

You don't see the point I am trying to make at all? If you ran a company and somebody had some new tech out there and you were interested in it... Would you still take the time and effort and money to utilize this brand new tech if you thought it could be cancelled tomorrow? Hell no you wouldn't because it doesn't make sense to risk that kind of money unless there is some kind of possibility it will be of value.. If Nvidia doesn't support their own product and may simply crap can the whole thing, ED would be nuts to try to utilize it until there is some kind of definitive answer regarding it's longevity...
-
OK maybe I am missing something here... Isn't 3dvision an Nvidia technology to begin with? If the company that is trying to sell the product isn't 100% on board then anyone else supporting it is really taking a huge gamble. If they decide to drop it altogether then ED would have wasted it's time, right? Am I missing something here?
-
So you want ED to jump in and tell you that they are supporting a "technology" that you yourself have just said that NVidia is not supporting (at least not very well according to you) Why on EARTH would ED do that if Nvidia is shaky on whether it will be supported? Based on what you just said I can pretty well guarantee that 3d vision won't be supported because as a developer why would you tie up your resources on something that you don't even know will be there tomorrow? And the drivers that Nvidia provide are just that.. Drivers that Nvidia provide and have nothing at all to do with ED.. (and I am not sure where you get the idea that their drivers are buggy, but at least they provide SOME kind of support unlike AMD that may push out an update driver once a millenium..)
-
They have already stated that multi-GPU is supported and that means Nvidia and AMD both... (So yes SLI and Crossfire) Details beyond that have not been shared as this is still a WIP..

Many helicopters can be made to be as simple to fly as the Shark, but it requires electronic stabilization equipment that costs as much (and in some cases more) than the helicopter itself.. (That is why you won't see an R22 with an autopilot) If they ever decide to price that equipment realistically, all helicopters would be that simple to fly.. As usual the money is the issue..
-
So what you are saying is that if you are piloting a fighter plane and there is a burning hulk of a vehicle right in your way, you would simply push right thru, right? That would be more "realistic" than stopping?
