Sometimes i chase someone with Sidewinder in close combat, i got the lock sound, squeeze the trigger befor i start to think and fire that damn thing into the sun.

Phoenix for longrange big targets around 20-70nm. Sparrows for small targets below 20nm Sidewinder if you can see your target Gun if you are really clise and has nothing left.

[Suggestion] Improve SA for Pilots via Jester Menu
Larkis replied to Larkis's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Another Idea comes into my mind is using Jester as some sort of navigation system for intercepts. For example i select a contact from the AWACs with some sort of selection system. Now i can select what i want todo like "intercept and fire a Phoenix" or "Indercept and approach for formation flying" and Jester tell me how i should fly to optimize the target selection for him. Example -i select "Jester Silent Intercept Contact 3 for a Sparrow" And Jester will answer something like: - Roger that, Radar is silent. Climb to angels 12, heading 152 with 350kn for 45seconds - Target is moving, change Heading to 120 - Have him on the camera. Contact is hostile, proceed with attack. - we are in weapon range. Activate Radar. Talley-Ho - we good a lock, good range, shoot that guy. This will put Jester more in his role as leader of the plane. -
[Suggestion] Improve SA for Pilots via Jester Menu
Larkis replied to Larkis's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Indeed. Using RIO Controlls as Pilot is the wrong turn. But seriously i doubt your Ai can adapt to every situation. For Example Standard Dogfightraining. 2 F14, clear friendly, start from the carrier and fly to the designated dogfight zone. Now Jester must label the other plane as hostile and monitor it while dogfighting. And after the Training the F14 us now friendly again. It would be really hard and imo impossible to make an ai which could adapt to every possible situation and make it bugfree It would be lot easier and controlable if the pilot just could say "ey Jester, that F14 on 4 o'clock is hostile now, make it your SPI". -
[Suggestion] Improve SA for Pilots via Jester Menu

I know that the RIO has the option to do that. But the screen for the pilot us really small and the stick is in front of it. And as pilot i cant select a plane to get for example a speed and Altitude. That is the RIO Job indeed. But Jester cant provide this information to me. For example: Im on altitude 5000, Datalinked to a Awacs which feed 2 groups of enemy planes to me and i have Order to intercept and identify. One has Altitude 2000 and the other altitute 10000. Position nearly the same. Now its hard for me to sort aus which fromation is which and where i must move to intercept. A human rio just would say "ok we take the high group first. Fly heading 210 and climb to 10.000". But thats a specific context information jester could not provide. So imo we need a way the pilot get that information to provide this decission himself. -
Hello everyone. As i understand in reality the RIO is in command if the plane. He has the huge TID Screen with different View Modi and all the RIO Stuff. The Pilot is only the driver. He just can switch his bottom Screen to a Mirror from the Rio one and has no way to interact with them. And you have your stick in the view. In a real tomcat or with a real RIO that is not a problem. People could talk. But with Jester its not that easy. Sure he can give calls and help with looking for missiles ect. But for me as pilot its hard to get a picture or details after that initial call. So thats my idea: In the Jester Comm Menu we got a new button in Air to Air Combat. This open a copy from the TID Screen where the plane is in the middle and a 360degre view around it (think about the SA or HSI Screen in the Hornet) there you see every contact which the Tomcat could see. If you look on a contact and click you see every info Jester got about that contact. Altitute, heading, speed, type, iff ect. That will help a lot to improve the SA from Single Pilots and is nothing a human rio cant provide (and as disadvantage its blocking your view when active) Also you could add orders for this special contact. Like lock, ignore, iff, direct radarcone to target, find with nosecam only ect ect. I think that will close the gap between real RIO and Jester without giving unfair advantages.

+1 to this :)

is there any way to tell jester to prioritize another TID target ?
Larkis replied to FZG_Immel's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
If i had a wish, i really would see in Jester Menu as new option a mirror of the TID Radar screen where you can look on a contact, kmclick on it and got more information ablut the plane and specific options fir that target, like lock on, follow with cone, iff, search passive with the nosecam ect. Ect. In reality the Rio is the one who make the decissions, the pilot is just the driver. But in DCS with Jester we do both and in my opinion we have not enough information to do so. -

Dont own the plane but looks cool :D -
easy AAR?

If you fly with a VR Headset and need to move your head to see the the vertical velocity vector. So often (like AAR or low altitude ) i fly in take of or kanding mode to have the digital VVV and Radar-Altimeter in the HUD if avaible.

I run into the same issue yesterday when i want to use the canopy toogle as rio. I think there are two bindings for rio and for pilot. You changed the selection in the pilot controll settings but not in Rio Settings. When you switch to Rio, you switch control settings and its the original settings. Please check that. :)

Rechecking every knob in the tutorial, seems that i forget to set the WCS Switch (right from the stick) to standby while startup but leave it there. So maybe the Radar runs in some sort of Silent Mode but looks and react like it was active.

Hi everyone. Im New to the rio guys and yesterday i got my first flight as rio and some problems witzh the radar. I think its a bug, but maybe its just me. but i dont know whats wrong. What does i do: 1. I connetct via Data-Link to the Carrier to get there Informations about planes around me. 2. I switch TID to Attack and use the TID Cursor to select a plane. Now i got all relvant informations about the plane like the alltitude. (ion this Case angels 14) 3. I order my pilot to get on the same angel and follow the target. 4. I set Az Scan to 10° for an smaller tracking area and El Bars to 1 (but also switch it back to 4.) 5. Now we are on mostly the same height then the target. I manual move the horizontal elevation that the target is inside the 2 radar lines. I also play a little bit with the vertical elevator for what i think should correct the altitute difference. But in the end i see nothing on the DDD. I switch between different radar modes. Double Pulse (should not work cause target should be in notch). Single Pulse (should work, cause there is no notching, but i also dont see ground clutter) TWS Auto and TWS Man (dont know exactly what they do, but there are avaible :music_whistling::huh:) and the Single Target Tracking Variants. But i never got a response on the Radar screen. Finally fully desperatet, my pilot intercept a tanker, i catch him with the IR/TV and sleeve the radar to the Signal. Only then my pilot got an Lock but i still dont see something on the DD, just the grey vertical line indecating a lock. For me, it looks like the radar selection buttons are bugged and i never really could leave the double pulse. Hope someone coulde help me.

Do you have the blue one or the black one? The black variant is a new variant produced by logitech with overall better quality and hall sensors for the stick. I dont have problems with the black one. But i dont use a extra software. I just bind axis and buttons in DCS
-
I have a X56 Rhino from Logitech. It has an awesome thumb-minijoystik which i use for the DLC Axis. I recover with autothrottle, put the vertical position of the velocity-vector a little bit behind the wires, and do adjustments only with snipping again the dlc axis.
-
Why does he put it down? Also i like landing the cat. I use autothrottle to go onspeed, after the groove i set up the glidepath and do adjustments only with the DLC Slats. Its easy to hold the ball centered and catch a 2- or 3-wire.

Could you please make a comparison video?

Man kann auch in den VR Steuerung einstellen, das die Maus in DCS gefangen bleibt.

Hi, im an Gamemaster for a P&P Roleplay Group and want to try CA for Mission Design and have a feq questions what is possible and whats impossible. :smilewink: 1. I read that you could command units like an RTS. What does that mean? For Example, i have a Squadron of 4 Su27 cold on an airfield and i want them to attack an AWACS. Is there a way to see as "gamemaster" the whole map with all blue/red units, then i click the SU27 Icon, rightklick on the AWACs and the AI Planes do there startup, get airborne and engage the target? Or is there the ability to give them waypoints with a defined height and target profiles? Like "Bears start, fly to koordinates X/Y and search destroy enemy carriers"? 2. Can i spawn units while mission run? For example, a player F18 shot down and i want improvise a CSAR with red vehicles try to chase down the pilot (and must be destroyed by other planes defending the pilot). Can i just spawn the jeeps somewhere and move them around? Or did i need to put 1-3 Vehicles in very area where the pilot could get down? 3. Can i control AI Units ob both sides? Like sending Blackhawks to the rescue position and on the same time, drive around red vehicles to simulate a thread to the downed pilot? Can i see the pilot on the F10 Map and maybe spawn a smoke on his side? 4. Can i place Fire Objects on the map? For example, i want a building to be destroyed, after i confirmed a hit with a recon unit, i want spawn or activate a fire/smoke element to got an visible indicator for the players that the target is destroyed. Thats all for the start. Hope someone could help me. :) :helpsmilie:

Look to the Tomcat. There you have a good sound for releasing bombs..
-
First let me say, i can AAR with Tomcat and with Hornet. So now i put also my 2 cents on it: AAR has one major problem. You dont know how to do it, until you could do it. I see a lot of videos about AAR for Hornet and for Tomcat. And all of them has 2 parts which are most impossible for an beginner. 1. Hold your vision on the tanker, not the basket. 2. Select a point of reference on the tanker and hold the plane there. And thats the deal braker. I use a VR headset. I can move my head everytime. Sometimes forward, sometimes backward, sometimes left, sometimes right. I dont have that 100% perfect centered view. So all that "put the right end of the 5° ladder on the tank part of the wing"-crap is pure bullshit to me. I understand the point behind it. When i know where the plane must be, i can easy get there. But to find that reference, i must successfull connect to the tanker before. Chicken/Egg Problem. You dont know how to do it, until you got it. And from this point you get a picture how to do it and get bether every time. But to reach that first successfull connection is incredebly hard. So insteat of implementing an auto/easy mode, just copy that: On the tomcat with STRG+Enter, i got on the right side the glideslope marker. That helps me the first times to enter the glideslope in a good way. Now im more experienced, i have the "feeling" for it and i never look on it anymore. Why not include the same for AAR? A Box with a plane marker. As long as the plane is in the box, you are able to refuel. That gives new pilots the experience "where must my plane be to connect" but he still need to go in the correct space himself. That close the experience-gap but dont reduce realism. Also i dont have a problem with the term "realism" in DCS. "realism" depends alot on the human factor and the hardware. Is TrackIR realism? Move the head on 200° in 0.3 Seconds to look behind in a WW2 Plane? I cant do that with VR without killing myself. Where is "realism" here? Qhat about peoplse without headtracking? "realism"? What about monitors? The size and resolution of monitors is very important for spotting a target visually. "Realism"? What about maintenance and costs? I can fire 6 Phoenix, on a bird 150nm away, and throw 2 sparros and 2 sidewinders on it. Ordonance with a value of severel million dollar. Then i fly the to tanker, tank, while i dumping fuel until the tanker is dry, crash my plane into the tower of the carrier... and just spawn again with a new plane, new ordonance and full of fuel. Where is "realism?" DCS is a very good in simulating a plan until the last detail. But it is also a lot arcade and gamey around it. When was the last time you plan your missions about 3-4 hours, according everything, then you present it to your virtual CAG, and try it again until he is satisfied. And ONLY THEN you spend another hour with preflight checks until you could go airborne. And when was the last time you was 4 hours on an Alert5 on the flightdeck while nothing happens? Sure you could do that. But you also just jump into a mission and have fun. That was it. Now hate me :)
