Does the Mi-24 even have Chaff with him? And Chaff without a jammer is rather useless anyway.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback guys! I will try to include those suggestions as far as possible. That is a good idea, but probably difficult to implement. However, I will have a look at it and will consider if it is possible in a reasonable timeframe. ;) I will try to fix that. Thanks for letting me know! Best regards and thank you all for your feedback, Jonathan

What does FAC mean? Forward Air Controller?

Had some fun tonight on the virtual aerobatic server. Half way from Kobuleti to Batumi we noticed a fourth member in our formation. As we splited up above the carrier, the brave A-10 keept on following. Shortly afterwards another brave pilot joined the formation! After some more fun (and some more crashing) on our way back to Batumi again. I uploaded those pics directly, without any edditing. I still hope you like them! ;) Thanks for the flying guys, hope to see you soon in the virtual skies! :joystick: John

How to fly seat-of-the-pants in DCS? My chair is not moving at all...

Control lag when online on a server
xxJohnxx replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
It would be intresting to host a server, fly a short flight in the Huey, and then land back somewhere. Then close the server, and grab the track and then play it. Would be intresting to see if it actually made a diffrence within the track. Maybe worth testing? -
Joystick to play DCS WORLD
xxJohnxx replied to jomar machado's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thrustmaster is pretty good in joysticks, and it will definatelly work in DCS. The question is what do you want to fly, and if it has enough buttons for it. Altough I still recommend the Thrustmaster Warthog and some decent pedals ;) -
I would like more speed feeling, but not provided by the game. I rather prefer a bigger screen or the Ocolus Rift (if it would come in better resolution) than motion blur or increased speed of aircrafts. Just take a look at the Mi-8 or Huey. If you fly low and fast, you really will get the speed sensation you are looking for, because you are rather close to the ground and especially in the Huey you can directly look at the ground. And as an additional point: Speeding up aircraft for whatever purpose, while trying to maintain flight dynamics and gauges is probably much much much more difficult than you think. Just saying! :smilewink:

I love the Sennheiser PC 363D. It has perfect (at least for me) audio quality, is very comfortable to wear even over longer gaming sessions and is in a moderate price range. The PC 360 is about the same, just without virtual 7.1 surround sound. In general, I recommend Sennheiser be it for real aviation, music or computer games.

What? How should that work? Why should anyone want this? Timetravel might or might not be a good thing, but I don't need it in DCS right now. If you don't care about realism, physics, logic, bananas, why won't you just use Ctrl + Z ?

Thats getting difficult. And even if you manage to speed up your plane and reduce the instruments that will probably give you problems, especially in multiplayer. And it's unrealistic...

After creating separate stylesheets for my websites just to be properly displayed in IE, I sworn to myself that I won't use it for anything else than downloading Firefox. Firefox on windows, and Safari on Mac, that's how I like it :)

I would also recommend to have a look at this simulator. It is a free simulator which shows what the early Russian SAMs are capable of and what they can still achive in modern war scenarios today, and what they can't do. You will quickly note that the DCS SAMs are underpowered in many regards. One of the biggest examples is the missile guidance system. While even early systems (for example SA-2) have several methods to prevent missiles beeing dived into the ground (half-lead elevated by constant and threepoint-guidance method) you can still defeat most DCS missiles by doing a steady dive towards the ground. But I hope with the release of DCS SEAD-Aircraft we will get some more intelligent SAM systems.

I never tried any free alternatives and went directly for TrackIR. Today, I couldn't fly without it. It's always funny how I try to move my view when playing at my friends place, who doesn't have TrackIR... I found TrackIR to be as important to me as my TM Warthog. If you can get one of the cheaper alternatives running well for you, it's probably of the same value as the pricy TrackIR.

Yes, it can happen in the Huey. One day I found myselfe in the gunners seat doing a righthand, climbing orbit with both pilots disabled, but the gunners still alive. The bird was climbing for a few minutes when I finally gave up and respawned. It looked like the helicopter would do circles until it ran out of fuel... :joystick:

I agree with that what Falcon said. The graphics card is indeed a difficult decission right now, as mentioned above, because the "not to far away" release of EDGE. However, we don't know when EDGE will come, so I can give you just a small recommendation on my experiences: I would recommend the ASUS 770 DirectCU II OC or ASUS 780 DirectCU II OC. I personally had an ASUS 560TI DirectCU II OC and a few months ago I upgraded to an ASUS 780 DirectCU II OC. With that 780 I could note a big FPS jump in DCS. The ASUS DirectCU II OC series of the NVIDIA cards feature dual fans as well as a slight overclock comming in a nice casing. It runs very quietly under load and was well worth the money in my eyes. I would recommend the 770 but if you have that kind of money go for the 780 or dual 770s. I am personally more of a NVIDIA guy, so I can't give you any recomendations about AMD cards, sorry! Another point that you have to consider is the case of your PC. I had a Cooler Master Storm case, which did a great job, however I was a little bit annoyed the day my 780 arrived, to find out that it was simply to big. As I found out afterwards, not all the cases fit big graphics cards. So that's something you might have a look at when choosing a case for your computer. Best regards, John

Should work without problem.

Starting out (Joystick recommendation)
xxJohnxx replied to enique's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
To be honest, there really isn't a cheap alternative for the Warthog. Independent of what you buy first, you will eventually end up with the Warthog, therefore making the Warthog the cheapest alternative for the Warthog. Makes sense? No? Buy the Warthog anyways! :smilewink: -
It's not like you could fix it within less than 30 seconds for yourself if you want to...
-
I don't think there is really an option needed. Yo just can copy and paste, which takes about 30 seconds and doesn't give the devs additional work. In my opinion, when programming the most annoying things to program are the things the user could easily do himself, but no, he want's the software to do it, just because he can't be bothered/is to lazy to do it himself.

Yes, if I set cockpit language to ENGLISH, the Ka-50 cockpit (lables) is in english, independend of coalation. If I set the cockpit language to RUSSIAN, the Ka-50 cockpit is in russian, independend of the coalation. However the cockpit language has no affect to the voices over the radio (AI and player) or the sounds (voices) in the missions / campaing.
-
Learn Russian? Read the subtitles? Ignore what the AI talks anyway? Copy everything from DCSWorld\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG to DCSWorld\Sounds\Speech\Sound\RUS? As you see, you have several possibilities...
-
Definatelly worth talking about, but first we need a bigger map.
