  1. Does the game launch OK in Single Player? Please try renaming the DCS folder located in "C:\Users\your username\Saved Games" . Then try launching again. This will allow your Game options to be reset and launch the game as if freshly installed. Worth a try. Out
  2. That is of course your choice. I enjoy improved overall stability and a much better and more productive experience under the new OS in all respects. I can also attest to the DCS titles and more then a few other simulations and FPS titles that run smooth as silk under Windows 8. I read the mixed reviews early on, the fact is they don't line up with my experience of this new OS at all. It may be just a little bit better but it is clearly better then Windows 7 IMHO. I believe that in a relatively short period of time, Windows 7 boxes will be as rarely used for gaming as Windows XP boxes are right now. Change is permanent. :) Out
  3. First off I would not upgrade....ever. Clean install only and preserve your data through backup just in case you want to go back to Windows 7. That way there is very little risk involved in trying it out. I find Windows 8 to be an even more stable gaming platform then Windows 7 and I like many of the more obvious improvements now that I have explored them. The answer to your question is you move to Windows 8 when and if you decide you want to of course. That being said remember this... When we were all using Windows XP and Windows 7 had come out and been reported as a great OS many people asked the same question. What OS do you think those people are now using? When you decide to do it is up to you. IMHO it is just a matter of time before most of us will be using it and liking it just fine and maybe even wondering just a little bit how we ever could have been so happy with Windows 7. Hmmm? Out
  4. Windows 8 runs these titles, all of my gaming hardware including HOTAS Cougar and Warthog, TM MFD's, TrackIR, TFS3, Logitech G700 gaming mouse, Logitech G-15 keyboard, G-25 Racing wheel and everything else I have thrown at it very well. So well in fact I have left Windows 7 behind without any regret what so ever. I think that in the long run this OS will be well received. The problem is that change has no constituents.....at least at first. ;) Out
  5. Check that your user account has full rights to the folders in question. (In the security tab of DCS World folder properties , enable Modify, Read & Execute, List folder contents, Read, and Write permissions for your user). I have had to do this after installs in order to modify files under windows 8. Out
  6. This is most likely a configuration/system level problem and not the sim. Did you try removing the "DCS" folder from your Saved Games folder? Located at C:\Users\Your Username\Saved Games (Under Windows 7). If not try temporarily renaming or moving this folder and run the game again. Out
  7. Windows 8 is better then Windows 7 in my experience. There is nothing I can't run on Windows 8 that I could run on Windows 7. Installing Classic shell will offer you booting straight to desktop bypassing the metro screen entirely. Seamless. No problem. Once classic shell is installed you get access to both the new and the old GUI so you can have your desktop environment and at the same time explore the Metro screen and charms bar at your leisure. Both of which are actually pretty cool. Out
  8. So let me get this straight, you get multiple Jet AC, a prop plane, an attack helicopter, multiple ground units, JTAC, all human controllable and still you are not happy? Personally I am thankful for the great work this company does. Out
  9. Thanks Mustang! Out
  10. Yes our 104th missions do contain A-10 AC. Out
  11. Type ip into IE and Firefox also works the same. Out
  12. Enjoy your new video card. May it bring you visual happiness for some time to come. Out
  13. Great advice and so very true. Throwing large amounts of cash at barely perceptible performance improvements is frivolous and not just where memory is concerned. Few even consider this when purchasing a system. Be well informed and you will get the most performance for the dollar spent. There is a cut off point beyond which a little faster costs a lot more and it simply isn't worth it. Of course it is very subjective for each individual. Just further food for thought. Out
  14. Hi Tyger, Glad your safe mate. Now that's what I call heavy metal. Thank you for your service. See you soon! Out
  15. Two possible issues to check out. Wrong module (BS2 full module instead of upgrade?) or you need to download the latest file posted from the DCS website download modules section. Re-download and install the BS2 upgrade module again. The version that worked for most is now on the website. The filename is KA-50_bs1update_en_1.2.2.7122_23.exe LOL with your "legitimate customers being punished" comment. I don't call this punishment I call it "funishment". Also maybe not the best approach for gleaning an answer to your query.;) Anyway I hope this helps. Out
  16. Fixed! The new module is uploaded! Just downloaded it and activation went fine. Thanks for the fast response ED! Out
  17. Thanks c0ff. Patiently awaiting the new module. Out
  18. I have something to say........ Thank you ED. Out
  19. LOL that is pretty silly reasoning. I have never heard the technical term "Meh" before. I wonder if there is a benchmark for that.... :megalol: Out
  20. If the memory is not compatible with your board there may be no good reason to update the bios. Voltage is important as well. Many modules look exactly the same and fit the same slots but the voltages required by the memory and the memory to memory controller compatibility matters. If the corsair web site indicates the memory is not the right type or it is not compatible with your board I would not run it. Good luck. Out
  21. Is the memory you were given qualified for that MB? Is the voltage correct?Might need a bios update. Might need to up the voltage on the memory controller. Ram may be incompatible. Just because memory fits in the slots does not make it compatible. With some boards 2 modules populating slots 1 and 3 (dual channel) posts fine while on others the board will only post with the modules inserted into slots 2 and 4. Out
  22. Nice rig. Crazy comment though. ;) Out
  23. All true from my experience and all very astute observations. I have the CORSAIR CWCH70 which seems to keep things nice and cool. I never thought about the cleanliness aspect as I do quarterly cleanings on the internals and the case fans and filters. I guess that is a plus I had not considered. Fitting the Memory under some of the larger air coolers is indeed hit or miss. Out
  24. If it were only Linux users reading this thread we would still be on page one. This is not about defending M$ so much as not subscribing to very thin evidence for running off half cocked shouting in the streets with your hair on fire. Ready...Fire...Aim Out
