  1. Nice and practical. Love the use of pvc pipe.
  2. I would suggest re-installing all the drivers and software from scratch again and also try a different USB port.
  3. The reason Nvidia has throw the 1070Ti out there is simply to undercut the AMD Radeon RX Vega 56.
  4. Before you decide to throw a wad of cash on a whole new mob/cpu/ram combo I would first try replacing your old GTX770. Swap it for a GTX1070 and see how that runs. You already have your CPU overclocked to a good speed. If the change in GPU does not obtain the frames you were after then by all means replace your mobo/CPU.
  5. While there appears little doubt that Intel rushed out the release of Coffee Lake in response to the Ryzen threat, there is nothing wrong with the platform. There have been zero issues with memory compatibility or other teething issues and that is because the Z370 is nothing more than a refresh of the Z270. Bottom line if you want the fastest gaming CPU with a platform that works pretty much flawless and budget/value isn't your main factor in a purchase decision then by all means grab a cup of Coffee Lake. If value and tasks other than just pure high refresh gaming come into the mix then I would say Ryzen 7 series/x370 chipset is a more compelling choice with a much longer CPU upgrade path if AMD keep to their promise of slotting new CPUs into the existing socket. The great thing unlike a year ago is we all now have genuine choices as far CPU and motherboard platform goes.
  6. Firstly pick the best monitor that you can as chances are you won't be buying a new one in at least 5 years as the monitor is the one PC peripheral that most people hold onto the longest. You can always sacrifice some lower FPS now and into the short term to keep that excellent image quality balance of a 1440p ultrawide display. I always stick to the monitors native resolution, after all that is what you paid for. As GPU performance advances then you can move to a newer more powerful card. Over my many years of PC gaming I have found that in the lifespan of my display I would have used at least three different graphics card, each one more powerful and higher performing.
  7. Bit, I do t think MSI were paying attention with their Godlike Z370 mobo. Three onboard m.2 PCI-e slots plus an add in card to for an extra 2 m.2 ssd's. With only the limit of 16 PCI-e lanes this makes no sense. And the cost of this board is Aud $700 plus. Just crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah but the i7-8700k isn't competing against the R5-1600x sku.
  9. Don't get me wrong I think the i7-8700k is a great gaming CPU which also offers significant improvements over the i7-7700k in terms of productivity and other things such as live streaming. However to have a product launch with barely any of the product available is really poor. Further the price is also on the high side. Back in March 2017 the newly released Kaby Lake i7-7700k retailed in Australia for AUD $485. The new i7-8700k is AUD $80 more than what it replaced. For me that is at least AUD $30 too much. The other problem is that the Z370 boards are really no different than the Z270 except for the design of the pin layout to accommodate the slightly different power requirements of Coffee Lake. It won't be till the Z390 in 2018 where there will be perhaps new technologies and features brought to the platform. Still I guess it could be worse. I mean if you were someone who bought into the X299 platform paired with a Kaby Lake X CPU then you must feel like you have been totally had with this release from Intel.
  10. Yep expensive. Here in Australia you are looking at AUD $549 but as I said none are available so that's a moot point. The i5-8600k, also unavailable right now is selling for AUD $389. AMD has the value for money bang for buck segment with Intel being squeezed by the balls. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Nice one Intel. [emoji35] Looks like the speculation on the net was right. No available i7-8700k chips in Australia on day of release. And all i5-8600k sold out so guessing there were not many available to begin with. Looks like Intel were desperate to rush these out to combat Ryzen. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and go AMD with the knowledge that I will be able to slot a Ryzen 2 chip into same motherboard. And by then AMD should have addressed the 4Ghz hit the wall clock speed issue. Below article sums up poor supply situation and inflated prices. http://www.legitreviews.com/intel-coffee-lake-stock-situation-looks-poor_198546 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. It is a legend of the CPU world that Sandy.
  13. And that is a good thing. Another step in the right direction.
  14. I am in that old 7 plus year club. :smilewink: The advantage you have is that the you have a Sandy which still isn't so bad when heavily overclocked. My first piece of advise is get a new graphics card now. Based off your monitor spec a GTX1070 or 1060Ti from Nvidia would be adequate or perhaps Vega 56 from the AMD side. I would put this in your old system and heavily overclock your current Sandy processor and see what results that yields. The other weak link of the system is the memory. 16GB for DCS is a good fit as you have already identified. If you really want to build a new rig then my advice is to hold off another few weeks by which time Intel's new mainstream Coffee Lake should be out. First or second week of October is the rumoured release date. Do not buy the current Intel Kaby Lake like the i5-7600K or the i7-7700k. Wait for the Coffee Lake release. While I am saying wait to early mid October for the new Intel Coffee Lake CPU's your modest budget of GBP 500 favours towards an AMD Ryzen based rig. CPU choice AMD Ryzen 3 1200 GBP 95. Pair this with a AMD B350 (a must if overclocking) board GBP 75. Memory 2 x 8GB kit DDR4 dual channel 2400Mhz GBP 135. For GPU I would recommend a Nvidia GTX1060 3GB card approx. GBP 200. Grand Total GBP 505. (This was based off some searches on UK's Scan website. I found it really hard to get near GBP 500. This also assumes that you will continue to use same case, PSU, and hard drive storage. While the Ryzen 3 1200 CPU isn't a powerhouse you can always upgrade this down the track when you have the budget. It has it's own coller and still can be overclocked decently with the stock cooler. I would however highly recommend stretching your budget for a graphics card with 6GB of memory. With all the new DCS maps having a decent GPU will be critical. I am sorry to say but the GTX1060 3GB version or any card for that matter with only 3GB of video RAM just won't cut it for many current and future titles. Hope my feedback helps to get you started and I am sure many others can add their 2 cents. Good luck.
  15. My mechanical drive is purely used now for storing videos, photos and the like. All apps, programs, games and of course the OS are on SSD drives. My advice is save up for an SSD that can fit all your programs and games on. NAND prices are not too bad at the moment and if you look hard enough you can find some good deals. You don't need a super fast one. Any SSD from a reputable brand will do. Samsung IMO are the best and have very good warranties also.
  16. I can only hope that a unified 2.5 will be out by end of 2017. Revived Caucasus is looking amazing. I think the long wait will be worth it. And it appears pretty evident that ED are putting in a stack of man hours for what is effectively a free update. So credit where credit is due. 2018 should be the best year yet for DCS with 2.5 merge, updated and modernised Caucasus, Strait of Hormuz map, along with new modules Hornet, Harrier and Tomcat. Nevada looks simply gorgeous now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I'm not so sure on a smaller monitor like s 27inch. I can only suggest getting a look at one in real life first to see what the experience is like. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Somehow just have to remain patient. The last purchase I made was the F-5 on release and since then I haven't spent a penny due to the merge not happening. Once the merge is done and things are stable I will jump onboard again. Yes Nevada 2.1 looks gorgeous right now and I am sure the Caucasus map will have a total new lease of life once it is done. And of course Strait of Hormuz map along with the Hornet and not to forget Razbams Harrier, the future looks good. But for me the 2.5 merge is the foundation without which I will not commit any further.
  19. Awesome build, enjoy. :) Far to much power, cores and PCI-E lanes than I would know what to do with. There is no better time to be in the market right for a new CPU/MB combo right now. Thanks AMD for coming to the party finally. Now Intel lets see if your Coffee Lake can up the ante on the mainstream side of things. After near a decade of uninspiring CPU releases there is actually something to get excited about.
  20. I can't see this selling well but if it brings any extra people to DCS then great. However I won't be one to cough up USD 15 for this single navigational aide instrument.
  21. Amazon best sellers list I am pretty sure have been putting the blue team still on top up to now. But definitely AMD are making a big impression into Intels dominance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. If I had to choose between the two then the much more expensive 7700k. If all you do is game then the much cheaper 7600k. I would also consider looking at AMD with the Ryzen 7 1700 if you do plenty of streaming as an alternative to the i7-7700k.
  23. Agreed. My DH-D14 is near silent without the Low Noise Adaptor. I think mine is still sitting in the box.
