A show case of the "unpredictable and uncontrollable " DCS Huey
ishtmail replied to PeterP's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Very nice flying... Practice makes perfect, eh? This vid makes me want to improve my own flying, so job well done: you've made me a better man. -
If you mod the Warthog by taking the large spring out (3 minute process that's easily reversible if you want to change it back), it becomes as light as a feather and perfect for the Huey.
-
Hold on... You have a cheap excuse for a joystick like MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2, and then you complain about the Huey not feeling realistic? How are you controlling the collective, with that itty bitty throttle paddle? I'm sorry, but this is the funniest thing I've read on these forums in a long while, and I've read some silly stuff, believe you me. Until you get a proper controller setup worthy of DCS simulations, I'd suggest you stop complaining and start saving up. And remember this: any short handle joystick will feel somewhat unrealistic for heli flight (even top notch joysticks, let alone poor plastic stuff like the one you own). If you want realism, you can buy (for example) the TM Warthog and extend the arm (some guys have made a functional extension that really helps).

I will wait for the Beta to come around, and see the reaction of the beta testers, and only then I'll decide... Currently I'm all cashed out. I'm sorry to see they went for such a short campaign, though. Maybe next month I'd find the funds and pledge, but in this short time span of 15 days, I just can't. I do hope they will make it a good experience, and as realistic as humanly possible, and I wish the team all the best in their Kickstarter campaign.

I don't get it... When before June 22nd did ED announce that new AFMs for SU27 and F15C would be given to the FC3 customers for free, and later changed that announcement? That's right, they didn't announce that at all. They only announced that AFMs were planned and would be released in separate modules, and that decision was not yet made concerning FC3 owners. So, nothing has really CHANGED, they only clarified it according to their plans and according to the roar of the community. Looks like some people are still not satisfied?

Over the weekend I pushed a support ticket through the DCS website with a question. I'm used to online support taking days, even weeks, to answer properly. But here, I received an answer in 1,5 hours. On a Saturday, no less! So, I'm here to show my appreciation to the incredibly fast and responsive support team, specifically EtherealN, who quickly and accurately answered my question.

I own the Saitek Pro Flight Combat pedals, which are very solid and feel great. I can't not recommend them, so there: I'm recommending them. You should be careful to get the pedals that also have toe brakes, not just the rudder axis. Flying a heli like the Huey doesn't require toe brakes, but they do help the immersion in airplane sims where toe brakes are properly simulated (like A10C). I can't judge the sticks and throttles, being a TM fanboy ;)

Seeing and flying the quality Belsimtek gave us with the Huey, I'm pretty eager to try this one out. And it's leveling the playfield, with support/troop helicopters on both sides, making the multiplayer scenarios even more interesting.

That's the current version, you're good to go.

The free FC3 draw entries are now closed. 10 people contacted me. I assigned numbers to them in the order the PMs arrived. I then went to Random.org and inserted a range from 1 to 10 and hit 'generate'. The number selected was 2, so the person who contacted me second is the lucky winner! Hypersonik, congrats! I'll PM you the serial which you can then use to activate FC3. Don't forget that you need Lock On installation, too.
-
Nope. If you get FC3 now, it's 30 bucks. Individual planes will be 20 bucks a pop. So if you're after 2 planes, buying FC3 now already saves you 10 bucks, AND you get several other planes in the package.
-
K2mil: You install Lock On, install and activate FC3, and then uninstall Lock On, so it doesn't have to sit on your PC for all eternity.
-
Still two slots open in the draw!

I posted this in the other thread... Since Wags and ED were so generous to us existing FC3 customers, I thought I'd share the love and the generosity, to support ED and to get more people flying. I've just purchased a second FC3, and it's not sitting and looking for a new owner. The first 10 people to PM me will go into a random draw and the lucky winner will get a copy of FC3 for free. I just got a response from ED on how to purchase and give away the module as a gift. 2 people have contacted me already, so there's some room left in the draw.

The June 21st DCS News Update Discussion Thread
ishtmail replied to SkateZilla's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Wow... Wags and the rest of ED team, you've outdone yourselves. As a FC3 customer, I can't emphasize enough just how appreciative I am of this. I expected the upgrades to be made available for a fee, I hoped the fee would be less than the price of a full module. Your solution is just awesome. As you pointed out, it would be pointless to buy another DCS: FC module if you already own FC3. However, just to support ED, and to spread the love, I will purchase one DCS: FC module for someone on this forum, when these modules are made available. EDIT: Scratch that. I'll buy FC3. So, whoever wants it, PM me. I'll make a random draw from the first 10 people who PM me, and the lucky winner will get FC3. I'll contact ED support to see how I can make the purchase for someone else. -
Maybe it's all the shaking, bumping, jumping and hiccuping that makes it feel like it's flying at warp speed and about to fall apart. Compared to the Huey, the KA50 feels like it's on rails greased with a ton of vaseline.
-
There is no mention in the newsletter about a possible 'upgrade' package for existing FC3 customers for the new AFM goodies... I hope ED will change this and will make an offer we won't be able to refuse...
-
I must say I like the Poll idea that Wags put out, I'm just not certain that a Facebook poll is the way to go. ED's FB page has 2000 likes, which is not exactly a representative sample of the fanbase. In that regard, a Poll on the forums would be more sensibe (the forums have 43.000 registered members), and I'm not sure even here would give an accurate representation of what people in general really want (face it, casual gamers just aren't active on forums like this, meaning only hardcore sim freaks post regularly, which would push the poll results considerably in favor of the hardcore modules).

joey, that's wrong for so many reasons... you couldn't find an uglier shade of turquoise blue? Most programs do have an entire 16-million color RGB palette at their disposal :D :D

DCS World should automatically check for updates each time you open it. However, you can use the Updater manually. Find your Start menu folder Eagle Dynamics, there should be an Update icon in there. If it's not, go to your HDD, find your DCS World folder (where you have DCS installed), in there find the bin folder, and in there find the DCS_updater.exe. Make a shortcut of that exe file, edit the shortcut (right click > properties), and in the Target line, just add the word update at the end.

Abq: Install DCS World (latest version) Open DCS World Go to Module Manager Login with the account that you bought bs2 with Install BS2 directly from the Module Manager This avoids any problems with wrong versions, as Module Manager always installs the latest version.

Allright, chant with me: What do we want? We want EDGE. And Nevada. And Middle East. And southeast Europe. And the Falklands. And Western Europe. And China. And all the terrains should have at least 3 different eras modeled (WW2, 70s-80s and modern). And a completely bug-free DCS World with no network problems. And all the bugs fixed in all existing DCS modules. And upgraded FC3 with all the planes remodeled with new 6DOF cockpits and AFMs. And DCS SU27, DCS F15, DCS FA18, DCS MIG29, DCS F22, DCS FW190, DCS ME109, DCS AH64D, DCS Mil MI24, DCS SU33, DCS F16, DCS Xwing and DCS chocolate-chip-cookie. And collision models for trees and buildings. And better dynamic campaigns. When do we want it? Now. No, wait, let me rephrase it: (*whining voice*) why is ED ignoring the *insert_module_here*, when it's clearly the most important thing they should be focusing right now? This should totally already have been developed ages ago! Maybe, just maybe, we should make some prioritizing as to what part we want ED to do first. The list is long, as in DECADES of developing time. Do we first want a new terrain and new engine? Or do we want a fast mover airplane to be developed first? Should that fast mover be western or eastern?

Thanks, TurboHog! The fix worked like a charm, and now I can again hear that lovely alarm wailing at cold start :)
