  1. Is that what he said? Well, now, that's interesting. Damn, Hawaii would be fantastic. But a bit ambitious for a free map, no? I was figuring something along the lines of a simpler area to model. Now you really have me thinking.
  2. Okay, so most likely it isn't. But I'd sure as hell like to take off in that Bent Winged Widow maker rolling down a coral runway surrounded by palm trees!
  3. I see that the newest updates mentions they will now proceed with work on the "free map." Naturally, like everyone else, I can't help wondering what that will be. I also saw that work is continuing on the F4U Corsair. A very exciting airplane. Screenshots look good. Could it be, I wonder, that there will be a Pacific island map for use with the F4U? I can see that. If the map is going to be free, I dont see it being filled with towns and cities. That's too much work to expect them to give us that sort of thing for free. And it wouldn't be something that will take years to complete. Again, too much time and money invested with no monetary return. A small island. Beaches, trees, some hills. A couple of jungle airstrips. I can imagine them knocking something like that out comparitively quickly. A possibility you think?
  4. I realize that the P-51 is an old one, but is there ever going to be a correct pilot in the airplane? The Spit has that great looking RAF type, but the P-51 still has that guy who looks like a modern day pilot out taking his Warbird for a spin, wearing an old WW2 style helmet. Fine for the TP-51, but not for the P-51. The Mustang is great and deserves the right pilot. And besides, I don't like flying across The Channel without a Mae West.
  5. One thing that I don't understand, is when I see developement shots of planes like the P-47 that appear nearly complete. Cockpit shots, texturee done...etc. They look as though they're almost ready to kick out the door, but four years later they still aren't done. What happens?
  6. So the P-47 is still in developement? Tell me yes, please. A DCS quality Jug would be a day one purchase for me. I usually wait for sales, but I doubt if I'd be able to control myself with that one.
  7. I ran the updater, but I don't have this, yet. Still the old P-51 model. Am I supposed to go somewhere and download this?
  8. Can't wait for that new Mustang. But I hope a new, more WW2 correct pilot is coming along with it.
  9. The Spitfire Mark 9 in DCS is up against two airplanes that were not really it's primary opposition for most of it's service life. It mostly dealt with 109G's and 190A'S which it could handle quite well. But we have the 109K and 190D. By the time those two airplanes were available in large numbers, the Spit Mark 14 had replaced the old 9's as the RAF's air superiority fighter. The poor old Spit 9's were relegated to fighter bomber missions...a job the airplane was never designed to do. I think some Spitfire 9 vs. 190A servers would be a ton of fun!
  10. Holy smokes! This is incredible. Honestly. The degree to which this airplane is finished is really impressive. I just got through two hours in it terrorizing the country side with snake eyes. Too much fun! I'm off to try getting aboard the boat. Just had to stop and in say it's terrific and thank you! And I've had no issues at all, by the way.
  11. Yeah, the P-51H was supposed to have been used during the invasion of Japan. As we know, a couple of really big bangs made that unnecessary. Then the war ended and the new jets made it unnecessary. It was designed as an air to air fighter, so couldn't carry much of a load. So, that made it unnecessary for Korea. So, basically, the airplane turned out to be...unnecessary.
  12. I'm afraid that might be so. I'm certainly going to try my luck with it, though. But the trick is, don't get over anxious. If you dive on that guy and miss him, you MUST avoid the temptation to follow him into that turn that he will most likely make. Just keep going. It's going to be frustrating, I'm sure. Most guys can't fight like that. I find it hard, myself.
  13. ...at least in my opinion. I'm talking about the way the cockpit lights up when you fire your guns. It causes a stutter when it happens. At least, with me, anyway. While it might be pretty, I really doubt that in daytime, your cockpit would light up when you fire your guns. Especially on a jet, like the F-86, that has it's guns all the way in the nose. I can't see how that would cause your cockpit to look as though someone just turned all the lights on. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is wrong. I've never seen it mentioned. So, I guess I'll mention it.
  14. Well, in fairness to the Mustang drivers, they were late comers to the Pacific war. They didn't start replacing P-40's in China until the middle of '44, and didn't start operating out of Iwo Jima until early in '45. And don't forget, Major Shomo, in his Mustang the flying Undertaker, won himself a Medal Of Honor over the Philippines in February of 1945.
  15. Yeah, I think so, too. For some reasons the historic inaccuracies don't bother me the way they do some films. Yeah, I know that airfield they're on doesn't look anything like an 8th AF base, and yeah, I know they used Mustangs as '109's, and yeah that whole plot about not being allowed to get married was baloney, and yeah the markings were all wrong for an 8th Air Force unit..and there's more. But I still really enjoy it every time I watch it.
  16. Hey Buzz, how many times do you think you've seen "Fighter Squadron" with Robert Stack and Edmund O'Brian? I've lost count.
  17. "I've been a fan for longer than most here have lived." Back in the late sixties I read Bob Johnson's "Thunderbolt" for the first time. That's when my fandom started. I've read the book countless times since then and finally had the true pleasure of meeting Robert Johnson during an airshow along with other pilots of the Thunderbolt Pilot's Association.
  18. That last picture is of Major John Howard. Talk about balls of steel. I don't know how he managed to cram those things into the small cockpit of a P-51. He was a carrier pilot, who left the Navy to join up with the Flying Tigers. He destoyed six Japanese airplanes. When they disbanded the Tigers, he went back to the States and went into the USAAF. He was assigned to the new 354th Fighter Group. While flying an escort mission over Germany, he found himself alone, but dove into a huge group of German fighters tearing apart some B-17's. He ignored the numbers, (Some say as much as thirty!) and managed to shoot down six. The B-17 Squadron commander later said: "For sheer determination and guts, it was the greatest exhibition I've ever seen. It was a case of one lone American against what seemed to be the entire Luftwaffe. He was all over the wing, across and around it. They can't give that boy a big enough award." They gave him the Medal of Honor. The only American fighter pilot in Europe to recieve it.
  19. Hmmm...I see that if I had simply read some earlier posts I would have seen that the question I asked was already being talked about. Sorry for the redundancy. Glad to see that it might not be far away.
  20. Nice looking work on the 190. But we've come to expect that, really. No matter how much people complain about DCS, they can't say that their planes aren't beautifully done. Gonna be fun to fight that in the Spitfire. Hopefully, the P-47 won't be far behind.
  21. I came in here to ask about the p-47, and see this. Good video. I was going to inquire, though, as to how serious is the possibility that we are actually getting the P-47 Thunderbolt? I've heard a lot of, we might get this and we might get that, but might we actually see this soon? At least next year, maybe? Might it be the next WW2 release? I'm enjoying the hell out of the Spitfire. I think it's terrific. Beautiful model. And I'm looking forward to the Mustang updates. But a DCS Jug. Damn....it would have to be a day one buy. I normally wait for the sales, but I just wouldn't be able to with this one. How far along are they with it?
  22. Well, if it had been released, wouldn't we have it? I'm sure it's getting included in one of the upcoming updates.
  23. " but from a business standpoint the Viper makes more sense. It's newer so not only does it fit in with what ED has been building..," Well, let's see. MiG-15, F-86, Spitfire, P-51, MiG-21, Yak-52, F-5.....I'm sure we can "fit" the Phantom in there somewhere. Or should I have written, "Phit?" I definately want to see them phit the phabulous phucking Phantom in the phlight sim!
  24. "But it looks so much easier to taxi in RL, I think ED has to work on that, he just pushes the stick forward and has very precise controls with the rudder." Yes, Rocco, at those slow speeds your rudder is doing nothing. You need to move faster to get air flowing around the surface for it to be of any use. In the Mustang, T6 also, pushing the stick forward unlocks the tailwheel and allows it to caster. You don't realy want to do this as you'll lose the airplane fairly quickly. With the stick nuetral, or pulled back, you have 6 degrees of movement from side to side because the tailwheel is now locked to the rudder. This is enough to allow you to taxi normally....and slowly! If taxiing the Mustang is giving you a hard time, my guess is that you're doing it with the tailwheel unlocked, or you are taxiing too fast. You have to be careful when the tailwheel is unlocked. It's really meant for making tight turns on the groud....not for normal taxiing.
  25. I read this and thought, "What are they talking about?" So I jumped into the Spitfire to check it out. I don't know how I hadn't noticed this before. But, yeah, with the canopy open you still see reflections and sun glare. I suppose I don't have the canopy open enough to have seen that. Yes....needs to be fixed.
