Hmmm....my canopies aren't dirty, I have no trouble seeing anything and my cockpits aren't low resolution. Maybe you need a new screen.

Poll: 'E' armament Option for LF. IX
Ercoupe replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
"I think the point of the poll is not another Mk IX but, like clipped wings, having the option to arm it with two .50 instead of the .303 which was a common armament on the LF Mk IX particularly and would be more common during the time that the 109K-4 and 190D-9 were in regular front line service. ___ Ah!!! Then I humbly applogize and let me change that no to a resounding yes. I thought he wanted a whole new plane. Yeah, I'd like that, and I can't imagine that it would be all that hard to do, either._______________ -
Poll: 'E' armament Option for LF. IX
Ercoupe replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I wouldn't buy another Mk9. Not enough difference in performance to be worth it. Now....if it's a Mk 14....well, hell yes. But, honestly. I'm happy with my Spit just the way it is. I think it's a terrific model. -
"Slow down there, lol. The fact that we even have a P-47 is a blessing." Well, actually, we DON'T have a P-47, so asking for all these other variants already is kind of silly. And Pacific maps? We talking ten years from now? Normandy isn't done!

The thing about a winter texture for Normandy, is this. By the time the winter of 44-45 arrived, the war had moved away from Normandy. Most of France was in Allied hands. Now you could, of course, fly out of England and "make believe" that it's 1943 or '42. But if you want to be historically correct, you wouldn't be flying missions from a snow covered Normandy airfield.

"The absence of topography (which is realistic) exaggerate view/ draw distance unfortunately and you get a lot of distance shimmering and texture-tiling which you dont see on the Caucasus map. due to the mountains. At altitudes above about 4,000ft it can be quite distracting. "High-altitude clouds will just "pop" in sometimes after 5 or 10 minutes of flying. They don't seeem to load when you spawn on the map.. but suddenly render in over a clear blue sky after some time. If you plan to spend your time flying below 1,000ft and keep to the normandy coast (say +/-20km from the channel coastline) then you'll not notice most of the above issues. You notice this stuff when you climb up, or when you decide to see more of the map beyond." I wholeheartedly agree with all of this. Stay low, and it's pretty good. But up high, it's a bit like FSX. I always make sure I have clouds over head, too. Too bright green for my tastes, without them. The clouds give it a darker, more atmospheric look that I like. Yes, the Caucasus map is more realistic. But I still do enjoy the Normandy area. And I'm having fun with Spitfire campaign. __________________

"It is actually a reconnaissance aircraft. It served with the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Kimpo, South Korea, during the Korean War in 1951 " No. The Mustangs flying recon in Korea were camera equipped RF-51's. The same airplanes that were designated F6's during WW2. Not two seater trainers. I'm not sure where your information is coming from.

Looks like fun. I may pick up the Christen Eagle if it's released. Are they still doing it?

[REPORTED] Clipped Wing Spitfire Repaints Issue
Ercoupe replied to Strider32's topic in Bugs and Problems
"No this is an issue with LODs, loading any skin other than default reverts to default when zooming out." Hmmm...that's interesting. Maybe it helps keep the framerates down. -
I have rain turned off. Is it a big framerate hit?

"As for Luftwaffe types, we will be getting a Ju-88A. However, this could be something of a white elephant as prototypically they were hardly ever seen in daylight during the invasion, the Germans having realised that by 1944 operating any multi-engine bomber in daylight over NW Europe was a recipe for heavy losses." Oh, have some imagination, for Pete's sake. It's a Normandy map. Okay. But do you mean that I can't use it as a Normandy, 1943, map? Take a couple of Spits with me, across the channel to have a squirt at whatever we can find. "11 o'clock, low. J-U eighty eight!" Down we go after the hapless Hun. The Germans shouldn't have all the fun killing bombers. You guys want an ME262, also. Not used over Normnady. Who cares. Whatever ya got, boys, throw em at me!

Drummer, I'm not quite sure what you mean by, "The view does not move with my head..." I don't think it's supposed to move. It just takes a snapshot of what was there when you pressed the mirror glance button, and the stationary scene simply stays there until you do it again. It's just to have something in the mirror other than a black circle, but it isn't meant to be usable.

I have a 4 year old AZUS laptop. 2 GB 860M graphics card. 8 GB's of RAMM. I did increase the amount of virtual memory. I don't overclock. I play the Normandy map with no problem. Yeah, I do turn some stuff down. But I do have MSAA on 2X. I even run the Epsom campaign which I'm really enjoying.

dont think the credibility comment was needed, that said, we have a pretty powerful Mission Editor, you can do a lot of things, including not using airfields if you dont want to. And many other things to make and use the map how you wish. __________________ I think that people get way too redicuous about this stuff. I'm a big aviation history buff with a large aviation library to prove it....but I still say "who cares?" Use what ever field you want. Call it whatever the hell you want. Fly the Spit from it, fly the Mustang from it....hell, fly the 109 from it. You all need to stop taking this shit too seriously. I'm just enjoying the hell out of that Spitfire.
-
Grajo, a part of me agrees with you. Trouble is, the part of me that likes historical accuracy doesn't. I can't fine a single photograph of a Spitfire 9 that isn't wearing the mirror. For that reason, I doubt they'll allow it removed.
-
Mirror Glance. Very good...thanks! Just what I was looking for.
-
I fly with mirrors off because of the framerate hit. But, I really don't like seeing that black circle up there. Would it be possible for someone to create a mod that puts a static picture into the mirror. You'd see the sky and the rudder, and it wouldn't move, but at least there would be something there instead of a black hole. Would that even be possible? Thanks for reading.

Found the problem with the green glass..
Ercoupe replied to toby23's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Well done. I installed it last night. Good job! -
As close to a real Spit as it gets
Ercoupe replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Art, I start the Spitfire with the mixture lever forward all the time. Sometimes I need to pump the wobble pump a few times to get it to catch. But I think that's what happens with the real one, too. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying and I should have stayed out of the conversation. Feel free to tell me to mind my own buisiness. -
I'm sure you meant, "Too early a model." But the 9 was flying combat right up until the end of the war. And since they toned down the German FM's a bit (especially the 109 which was rediculous) they aren't so scary anymore. I've scored against them plenty of times.

Spitfire windshield masks the night visibility
Ercoupe replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Yeah, that greenish tint isn't something you see when watching films from the cockpits of restored Spitfires. But one question....who flys a Spitfire at night? And B-17's popping flares? -
"only to get shot out of the sky by AA because you became impatient and decided to strafe a truck convoy in-between waypoints." I did worse than that. I didn't even get shot down. I crashed into the trees going after those trucks. Now that we have bombs, I'm going to see if there is a way to add them to the missions.
-
Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that, too. I did.

Hello. My name is Pooch...and I'm a DCS Spitfire addict. So, there it is. They say that the first step in solving the problem is admitting you have one. I'm thrilled to see that the Steam edition was brought up to date. I've been terrorizing airfields and bridges with my bomb laden Spitfires. Fun. Nice job on this. Since picking up the Spit, Normandy, and WW2 assets, I've been flying this a lot, unfortunately, also when I'm supposed to be doing other things. "One more flight, just one more flight!" Geez, I'm like a little kid! Okay, that's enough writing....I've gotta take one more flight!
