  1. I hadn't intended to buy any helicoptors, but this little machine interests me.
  2. I'm not sure why there was even a need to ask this question if you own all of those airplanes. Just go fly them all and see which one you like the best. That's why you bought them. It's not as if you're going to die if you crash one!
  3. Yeah, the show was rediculous, but I just had to watch it for the airplanes. A lot of the real surviving Black Sheep weren't happy about how Boyington allowed the TV show to represent them. None of it was real and the stories were just plain silly. I don't think he cared much. He was getting a big check. The final year when they tried to save the show by adding , "The Lambs," even I stopped watching it.
  4. The FM-2 version would be a whole lot more fun than the earlier F4F's. It was "The Wilder Wildcat." Faster with it's 1350 horse engine, could climb quicker and with it's larger tail surfaces, could turn tighter. Some pilots claimed it could almost turn with a Zeke. General Motors took two guns out and replaced them with more ammo. 1400 rounds in the F4F's and 1700 rounds in the FM-2's. One navy squadron operating off an escort carrier near the Phillipines late in '44 claimed 64.5 Japanese planes destroyed in air to air combat. If we get a Wildcat, make it an FM-2 and I'm buying it.
  5. One of the big problems with the Wildcat in combat flight sims, is that in real life it only survived because of superior tactics. It couldn't go fast, turn, climb or anything else. But useing team tactics the U.S. Navy and Marine pilots pilots scored with it. Now, put it in a flight sim. Your AI buddies aren't going to help, that's for sure. So, you will get your ass kicked in it. If you fly with a squad, and you practice working together, you might do better. But single player, not so much. I'll take the Corsair. There's a good reason that the Navy got rid of the F4F s as it's main carrier fighter as soon as the Hellcat was available. Only sim pilots want to fly outclassed airplanes. The real ones couldn't wait to get the new stuff and were glad to see them go.
  6. "I will go with separate throttle on my warthog, only question is how to set up prop control, i use friction lever for prop control in other planes, but this is single axis" I use my coolie hat button, fore and aft, for my throttle control. I use the throttle for my prop controls. I use mouse look, so I don't need the hat switch to look around. On my jets I use it for slewing the cursor on the targeting mfd's.
  7. So, we haven't even had a chance to fly it yet, and you guys have broken it already! Good job!
  8. The screen shots look terrific. But I hope it isn't shipping with those markings. They're all wrong, of course. Placeholders?
  9. I would love to see some updates on this. It's one that I am eagerly awaiting. And as far as the Hayate being "it's opponent," I would put the Zero there. Or maybe the Oscar. Corsairs weren't running into Ki-84's until the U.S. Navy began hitting targets on the Japanese home islands early in 1945.
  10. Thanks. Gonna punch that buy button.
  11. "OR.....you could just wait a couple of weeks " Where have you heard that timeframe? I am about to hit the buy button while the Harrier is on sale. I just flew it for free and it's great. But, I do not have unlimited simming money as some people seem to. If that two weeks is true, I'll wait. Just wondering if you know that for a fact. If you're just guessing, I'll pick up the jump-jet.
  12. Nine, I'm truly hoping that it is better than the IL-2, GB, P-47. That really performs terribly. The Thunderbolt had to be a better airplane than that!
  13. "Yes I think this is the first plane the should be released with a WWII carrier for the Pacific campaign." Sorry, but that position has already been taken by the Chance Vought F4U Corsair. We'll be getting that, I understand, with a big, beautiful, Essex class carrier. I'm really looking forward to that as I have more of an interest in late war airplanes. I check in here every day to see if there is any news on it.
  14. WW1 would not be taking advantage of the real potential of this engine. It would be a waste, in my opinion. We have IL-2 GB doing that.
  15. THAT'S what you're seeing when you run the game!? Seems like something at your end, to me. I haven't seen anyone reporting anything remotely similar to this. I don't have a single graphics glitch with DCS.
  16. Perhaps you should read several posts back. I was quoting someone who definately DID write, "Greatest fighter in the world. The P-39Q airacobra."
  17. "Greatest fighter of the War. The P39Q airacobra." Again, I'm assuming sarcasm. But you just never know!
  18. "Was that an especially good fighter, then?" I'm not sure if you're kidding or not. But I'll answer that. The SBD was a U.S. Navy dive bomber. If you've never heard of it, I assume that you're not all that into WW2 airplanes. But, then again, since this post is about fighters, this is most likely, sarcasm.
  19. I was a tester for their Spitfire MK9 in X-Planes 11. They very much want their airplanes to be perfect, so it will be a good one.
  20. "In cold weather temp near the ground could be lower then temp at alt so there we have small reversal " I just noticed this quote from Graf Spee. As a real life pilot since the mid 1970's, I have never experienced this. The air temperature drops 2 degrees for every thousand foot of altitude. I've never seen it colder on the ground then at altitude.
  21. "(to have some foes)" As has been pointed out, already, the airplane does not need a Zero to have an oppponant in here. It was used in Europe. It was used in North Africa. It was used in Italy. It has "foes." The 109 and 190. Why would we have to wait for a Zero before we can fly a P-38 in here?
  22. A DCS quality P-38 Lightning would probably make me forget every other airplane on my computer.
  23. I saw the first pictures of it back in 2015. Five years, already. Last year they released pictures that made it look as though it was almost done. A bunch of them flying along with the B-17 on the Normandy map. Where is this airplane?
  24. The DCS Spitfire is one of my favorite airplanes on my computer. When I start DCS I jump into the Spit, practically without even thinking about it. I don't have single complaint about this module. It's what each of us expects the airplane to behave like, that affects wether we like it or not. For me, it's just the way I expect that a Spit actually behaves. So, I'm happy with it. If you expected something different, you're not going to be.
  25. Being so much much slower than American fighters, of course, seriously hampered the airplane. While it's maneuverability is legendary, it is the faster airplane that controls the air battle. You just can't turn all day. You are going to get low on fuel, ammunition, and of course you are going to be exhausted. You are going to want to leave, to live and fight another day...but you can't. The second you level off to run, the 420mph Corsair is bearing down on your 360mph Zero. Japans insistance on continuing to make the Zero it's primary naval fighter contributed to it's ultimate defeat. By the time the Japanese Navy admitted it needed a replacement, it was of course, too late. Now, that said...the Mitsubishi A6M happens to be my favorite Axis airplane. A simple, elegant, beautiful design. I actually find Japanese WW2 airplanes more interesting than those of the Luftwaffe.
